I love her songs, but the last few years when i started to convert I stopped seeing her as a role model. Back in 2006 I went to the confessions tour and in 2008 the tour for the ‘hard candy’ cd, I can’t remember the name of the tour. Right now, I wouldn’t do that anymore.
But is it a case of demonic possession in her case? I wouldn’t think so. It has been her choice that she went against her father when she went into adolescence. To me, that period defined her for mostly for the rest of her life and of course the loss of her mother before that.
Right now i’ve personally made the choice I will keep her songs for live, ‘Live to tell’ is one of my personal favorites of all songs. But I decided to sell the documentaries I have about her, I’ve put them online

Do the news reports say that the Church thinks she may be possessed by Satan? Simply be influenced by Satan is something quite different. That is, total war or widespread abortion may be the result of Satanic influence, but this does not mean that those involved in these things are actually possessed by Satan. When Satan possesses someone, demons actually control the person’s body, which I think is very rare.

Excerpt:*Madonna will come under study by a panel of the Catholic Church later this month for demonic possession.

This is not altogether a new idea. Various exploitations of sexual activity, often perverse, have long been a powerful additive to an undoubted and extraordinary musical talent. Her 1990 “Blond Ambition World Tour,” for instance, described by Rolling Stone as “an elaborately choreographed, sexually provocative extravaganza,” was denounced by both the Catholic and Anglican Church. Her “Confessions Tour” in 2006 caused the Russian Orthodox Church and the Federation of Jewish Communities to urge all their members to boycott her concerts.*

Somebody’s got WAY too much time on their hands.

Forgive me, but how can one even be sure she really is possessed if a proper exorcist doesn’t examine her in person?

The link doesn’t work.

Madonna to be discussed at Polish exorcists meeting

I hope people begin to see that things like music and literature choices can in fact have a negative impact, major or not, on their spiritual lives. Far too many people think it is just so! implausible that listening to pop music could do such a thing; they believe the whole world is completely innocuous and ultimately sterile except perhaps serial rapists and murderers. It’s a close relative of the, “YOU SILLY goose, that couldn’t happen in America!” line of thinking. People often do have those beliefs.
I agree. Literature and music definitely have an effect on people. Catholicism needs holy people to change the culture, not be influenced by what is already out there, which is an occasion of sin.

Oh, that is silly. She is not demonically possessed. She puts on a sexy show, yes, but no sexier than many others. She felt hurt by her Catholic upbringing and expresses that sometimes in her music, yes, but so do many artists.
But the woman is not possessed.

I note that the priest calls her “the woman who dares to call herself Madonna…”
Well, that is what her parents named her.
What should she call herself–Alfred?

.

I tend to agree…however, it isn’t form me/us to determine her possesion…I remember reading somewhere that she lived in a castle in Europe and sheltered her children to the point that she didn’t allow them to watch T.V. or view anything ugly/vulgar etc…ineresting…sheltering her children from her own bad behavior…I love her music but can’t say I care for her other behavior…what might seem intertaining to some baffles me…PAX

Ah… the Devil’s music. Some themes just never seem to get old, do they?

Of course, we all know Madonna is the Devil’s music. Unless it’s rap. Or metal. Or the Beatles. Or Elvis. Or “hot jazz.” Or ragtime. Or African tribal drumming, for that matter.

We know it couldn’t be Country, though. Even though lyrically Country music deals with the exact same themes as rock and roll and, in a further twist of irony, is recorded in a way that *every word *can usually be heard quite clearly.

But the singers wear cowboy hats. And wave American flags. This cancels out any potential diabolical influence and gives them the good old-fashioned Faith of Our Fathers A-OK.

She puts on a sexy show, yes, but no sexier than many others.
So if others do it, it’s okay, right? Although many others do not try to single out the Church in their music as regularly as she does. At any rate, if demonic influence exists, and it exists in the music industry, what’s the problem with such a study.

If Madonna is going to be “studied” for demonic possession just because she is sexy on stage or in her photos/,music, and/or has religious themes, then they are going to have their hands full studying half the entertainment business, including most female vocalists and every rock band in existence.
Honestly, that probably would not be a bad idea…that is to discuss the diabolical influence that pop music, with its content and presentation encouraging beliefs and actions that are directly opposed to the teachings of Christ, has on society.

(Note: I am not stating that each and every person in pop music is possessed)

Not a bad idea at all.

Her real name is Madonna Louise Ciccone and she was named after her mother.

Just checked wiki and she chose Veronica for her confirmation name.
Although her birth name wasn’t her choice she could have at least chosen to go by a fictitious stage name if she had no intention of trying to do her birth name any honor. Using a fictitious stage name is very common in the entertainment industry.

People in the entertainment industry change their names when their agent tells them they should, if there is already someone with the same name in the SAG, because it sounds too ethnic (and they don’t want to be stereotyped) or lacks a certain “something.” If Madonna had chosen her moniker she couldn’t have chosen a better one to be memorable. How many people are known by their first name only?

Madonna lost her mom at a young age so I doubt she could have been convinced to change her name to suit other people.

Why aren’t they studying Richard Dawkins or Dan “Da Vinci Code” Brown? I can think of hundreds to put ahead of Madonna Ciccone from Detroit.
I can’t speak for the committee, but perhaps it has to do with some of her mock crucifixions, using special effects to portray the pope as evil in her videos, etc… Remember, according to the story, it’s not exclusively an examination of possession. It is a study of diabolism. I suggest you follow the story if you are curious what may have motivated them to select Madonna as a case study.

And the name “Madonna” doesn’t sound ethnic? When she did the mock crucifixion on stage and when did the “Like a Virgin Tour” where she does a mock striptease in lingerie I think it’s pretty obvious that it was a deliberate attack on Catholicism. It just seems that she went way out of her way to publicly scandalize the name of Our Lady. She isn’t like the average person on the street. She has had an influence on millions of girls growing up. Probably Lady Gaga was influenced by her. I hope she repents.

The name probably does sound ethnic but the first Madonna I knew was a German immigrant and another was Lutheran. More to the point, I wasn’t thinking of Madonna and ethnicity. I was listing various reasons that entertainers change their names. And you skipped the primary reason I gave that Madonna was unlikely to consider changing her name:
**

When she did the mock crucifixion on stage and when did the “Like a Virgin Tour” where she does a mock striptease in lingerie
I wouldn’t know…

Perhaps. I think she find some of the imagery beautiful and she might be a bit sentimental but she doesn’t like what she thinks Catholicism represents. She probably sees the Church as very judgmental.
It just seems that she went way out of her way to publicly scandalize the name of Our Lady.
I doubt that. Other than anti-Catholic Protestants, people who don’t like Christianity are okay with Mary.
She isn’t like the average person on the street.
You’re right. She’s very ambitious and works hard.
She has had an influence on millions of girls growing up.
Including me. Fashion-wise. I love this look.

Probably Lady Gaga was influenced by her.
I wonder if she would ever cop to that. I bet they both hate the comparisons.
I hope she repents.
I hope everybody does.

But I don’t think Madonna should have changed her name. And I think the Polish exorcists sound naïve focusing on her.

If you read the article, beyond the media’s headline, it sounds more like the conference is studying the influence of devilish forces in mass media, including popular music and Madonna is mentioned in there. Whether or not there is a “focus” on her singularly is not known from what I’ve read. We have a quote from a priest about her, but no context of what else he said, what he was asked, etc… In reading the articles, it also does not appear that she will be studied remotely for “possession” as some conjecturers have posited. The conference is not limited to possession from what I’ve read, but any form of social influences of evil in its many forms, veiled or otherwise.

I didn’t get that from the article but maybe it’s the sensationalism.
