Mafia killer turns to Pope

Police hunting a fugitive mafia boss have found he was getting spiritual comfort from the Pope.

Contract killer Giuseppe Setola fled threw the Naples sewers when Italian police raided his hide out.

But he left behind a well thumbed copy of Pope John Paul II’s autobiography Rise, Let Us Be on Our Way.

Setola, 38, is the boss of a Camorra clan murder squad which police say is responsible for at least 20 executions.

It was the third time they let the mobster slip through their fingers since he was released on licence after conning doctors into believing he had gone blind.

And when police raided the hideout of fellow gang member Franco Imparato looking for Setola they found statues of the Madonna and Padre Pio plus a wall sticker saying: “God is like Mamma - He never abandons you.”
