I am avoiding other forums for the reason that I don’t want to observe comments of disgusting bad taste about someone who is recently deceased. I am deeply disappointed to find such a comment on here: Catholics should know better.

Rest in God’s peace Iron Lady.

Holy Mother, please intercede for us.
Hold the sorrowful, strengthen the fearful,
give aid to all needing help or healing,
assist those who are sick, in pain or suffering,
be with those needing peace, console the lonely,
comfort the lost or hopeless, guard the unborn,
pray for those who are dying or who have died,
protect those in danger, guide us from evil,
soften those with hardened hearts,
enlighten those who do not yet see truth,
Help us be brave enough to do the right thing;
may all who keep your sacred commemoration
experience the might of your assistance.
Amen.

Very sad. She was an icon of Cold War “peace through strength”, and the British “stiff upper lip”. I place her with Churchill among the greatest Brits.

Requiem in Pace, Lady Thatcher!

In London it was a bright sunny day today. That plus the fact thatcher died today would have made many in London quite happy.
I hope they stomp the dirt down.
only those who don’t know how to seperate politics and herself as a very private person in reality. sadly, which is many but hope they will allow the ones who want to pay their respects to do so with good grace. I am neither for or against but wish no harm and may she now rest in peace

For the record, She, Reagan and His Holiness, John Paul II were considered a sort of Triumvirate against the Iron Curtain, Communist World. Rightly or wrongly, I see that portrayed that way.

Agreed. But it’s not like you think of Jimmy Carter or James Callaghan when you consider the fall of communism. You more closely associate them with malaise and failure.

While I think she deserves praise for her opposition to socialism, it also needs to be pointed out that from early on, she was quietly pro-abortion and pro-homosexual.

Well, she wasn’t a Catholic, after all.

RIP Mrs. Thatcher.

She helped revitalize the economy of Britain, which was considered the “sick man of Europe” at the time, by privatizing state industries and cutting wasteful spending. She broke the militant trade unions who often resorted to violence and intimidation to achieve their ends and considered themselves above the law. She restored a sense of pride and purpose to Britain in a century when the United Kingdom saw for the most part a decline in it’s fortunes.

Still, she wasn’t perfect. She didn’t support sanctions on the Apartheid regime in South Africa, and her antagonistic style towards other European leaders was not necessarily in Britain’s best interest, ad her authoritarian leadership style grated many people even in her own party.

Overall, however, she was a very good leader despite her flaws, who -in her own words-left Britain in a better state than she found it. May her soul rest in peace.

In the last 25 years few leaders in the Western World can make that claim about their own reign.

Uncalled for reaction in a Catholic forum and echo Dex. A Catholic should know better.

Gerry Adams says MT caused “suffering in Ireland”, maybe this is what these negative thoughts are about. I was starting to sense this.

Thatcher has long been a figure of hate for nationalists in Northern Ireland for her uncompromising policies during her 11 years in office between 1979 and 1990, which saw the death of 10 prisoners in a hunger strike.
Supporters say her hard line was inevitable after Irish Republican militants killed close Thatcher ally Airey Neave in a 1979 car bomb attack and the IRA came close to killing her in a bomb at the Conservative party conference in Brighton in 1984.

We in the USA see her closely aligned with President Reagan. Okay.

That is so true. However, some obviously have more flaws than others.

Requiem in Pace, Lady Thatcher.

If only the bunch in power today (and especially the last 13 years!!!) had one tenth of your determination and ability and love of your country and its people what a different place it would be. Strangely enough her most vociferous critics were women, IMO.
