Is it true that some Londoners actually BOOED as M. Thatcher’s funeral procession passed?

Fourth guy from the street, 106th row:
"BOO ! "
(I can’t SEE properly!)

Yes. It was reported, however, that the booing was directed at those who came to disrespect the occasion. .Is it true that some Londoners actually BOOED as M. Thatcher’s funeral procession passed?

Just wondering … were other world leaders in near proximity?

Well, that’s good. More like the Londoners I know and love.Yes. It was reported, however, that the booing was directed at those who came to disrespect the occasion. .
As well as:George Schultz and James Baker went over though.
That’s good. Ross Perot is not a politician any more.As well as:
Former US Secretary of State and Nobel Peace laureate Dr Henry Kissinger
Former US Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynne
US politician Newt Gingrich
US politician Ross Perot

Ours didn’t attend, if that’s what you want to imply. George Schultz and James Baker went over though.
Most of the notable attendees were British (led by the Queen and former Prime Ministers).Charlie Kimber, 55, the national secretary of Britain’s far-left Socialist Workers Party, is planning on protesting the funeral. “[We want] to register our objection to the politics Thatcher represents,” he tells TIME … (world.time.com)
Yes they did Juliane. Not everyone in Britain loved Thatcher - and there is no reason why they should have. I have never seen such a reaction to the death of any PM or other prominent politician in my life. That says something. They were expecting protests at her funeral. Why would that be? People did not intensely dislike her for no reason. Is it true that some Londoners actually BOOED as M. Thatcher’s funeral procession passed?
If so, that is greatly disappointing to me. I expect better behavior - but then again, thinking of the soccer hooligans…maybe I’ve got unrealistic expectations. Just doesn’t seem classy to boo at someone’s remains.
Oh, I know she was not universally popular. I just think it was rude beyond belief to “boo” at a funeral procession.Yes they did Juliane. Well said!Oh, I know she was not universally popular. I just think it was rude beyond belief to “boo” at a funeral procession.
I think people are just becoming more and more uncivilized all the time. It’s not that “Maggie” was worse than a lot of other political leaders, it’s just that we have lost much of our dignified behavioral standards over time.
And the streets of London were hardly overflowing with admirers .Yes they did Juliane. Not everyone in Britain loved Thatcher - and there is no reason why they should have. I also saw a sign reading rest in peace, with the word peace crossed out and replaced with the word shame. Like you, I realize Margaret Thatcher was disliked, even hated, by some; but it is a sign of utter disrespect to show such disdain at a leader’s, or anyone’s, funeral.Oh, I know she was not universally popular. Petronus, you really must think that people on this forum are stupid or perhaps that they didn’t see on their TVs the London streets lined with people (some of whom had camped out since 3am) who almost all universally clapped as the coffin went past. And the streets of London were hardly overflowing with admirers .
Not all , but some .Petronus, you really must think that people on this forum are stupid ]
Your behaviour seems at odds with Catholic values. ;pNot all , but some .![]()
Well that’s a point. People today don’t exercise the same restraints they would have in the past. In ways that’s a good thing and in ways it’s not.Oh, I know she was not universally popular. I just think it was rude beyond belief to “boo” at a funeral procession.

It is true maggie had her supporters, who would have camped out from 3am, and was popular with them. However, in terms of the streets being lined with people her funeral does not compare to that of Princess Diana, and her funeral has become a measure of popularity.Petronus, you really must think that people on this forum are stupid or perhaps that they didn’t see on their TVs the London streets lined with people (some of whom had camped out since 3am) who almost all universally clapped as the coffin went past.
I notice there is no sign of the funeral procession in your picture:
Here are some more pictures to redress the balance

My theory about some of this behavior is a desire to get one’s “15 minutes of fame,” get one’s face in the media, and if there were no cameras, there would be lot less of this sort of attention-grabbing behavior. Unfortunately now that we all have cell phones, any photo is likely to be picked up on the internet and go viral…And cell phones are all over the world, so there are people performing for the cameras in just about any circumstance.I also saw a sign reading rest in peace, with the word peace crossed out and replaced with the word shame. Like you, I realize Margaret Thatcher was disliked, even hated, by some; but it is a sign of utter disrespect to show such disdain at a leader’s, or anyone’s, funeral.
Minkymurph, I agree with you. There is no comparison between Maggie Thatcher and the universal love that almost everyone felt for Diana. I would be first the acknowledge that for every Thatcher supporter there is another who despised her (one of the former clerics at St Paul’s compared her to Marmite and I thought that was a good analogy!) , and I am glad that with one or two exceptions those who felt strongly against her conducted themselves in a respectful way yesterday. It is true maggie had her supporters, who would have camped out from 3am, and was popular with them. However, in terms of the streets being lined with people her funeral does not compare to that of Princess Diana, and her funeral has become a measure of popularity.
I’m not a monarchist by any stretch of the imagination. Not into the Royal family and wasn’t into Diana. Can’t even remember the Queen mother’s funeral, the jubilee celebrations or even the Queen’s historic visit to the North of Ireland. I knew it was happening but that was all. I thought it was sad when Diana died and watched her funeral on tv. I think it’s the only Royal occasion I ever have watched.
It doesn’t say a whole lot, apart from entrusting her soul to God, and as for freedom, it’s false freedom, when she supports ripping babies from their mothers tummies, then that and me ,right and wrong don’t click…
