Magisterium Condemning Straw Catholic Church

Making a list of objectionable anathemas would make no difference. You couldn’t possibly cover everything, and besides, the CCC IS magisterial teaching.

It already bears the authority you are asking for.

People simply are attached to a particular bias and ideology, and they defend it all costs, even to the reading of another persons mind and divining what they “really” think. (AKA “soul whispering”)

But there are thousands of Christian denominations in America alone. Baptists, Lutherans, Adventists, Anglicans, Presbyterians, believe some things in common but also disagree on many things.
  1. Nice try, but the “thousands of Christian denominations” lie has been debunked numerous times.
  2. Adventists are not Christians.
  3. The things we disagree on are all peripheral issues. We’re united on the essentials, which is why we share the same creeds, confessions, catechisms, etc.

Could you be a little more clear? Which “we” are you speaking of?
I said “we Christians”. I would think that would be pretty obvious that I was speaking of Christians.
Thats my point, its not obvious as Lutherans do not have same beliefs as Baptists, Methodist do not have same beliefs as Presbyterians…

Peace!!!

If there are only hundreds my point will still be valid.

The fact you don’t consider Adventists to be Christians actually helps make my point.

One of the points of disagreement I’ve seen is over which issues are peripheral and which are essential.

In any case, it is still possible to say truthfully that Baptists believe X about issue Y, and Lutherans believe not-X about issue Y. The question that was put to you was a reasonable and valid one.

So Catholics keep telling us.
Do you really hold that there are no important differences of doctrine among non-Catholic Christian denominations?
And if so why are there so many denominations at all?
You dispute the word ‘thousands’. Do you dispute that there are ‘hundreds’?

If they reject the holy Father now, this would only provide them with more ammunition.

Rather than futile discussions, I see it as being far more productive so simply pray for them, live a holy life and allow the Holy Spirit to work on them.

There are dozens, not hundreds, and certainly not the “thousands” Catholics dishonestly claim.
The fact you don’t consider Adventists to be Christians actually helps make my point.
And the fact that you do proves my point that Catholics have no problem dishonestly counting non-Christian religions as Christian denominations in order to pad the numbers of denominations.

No, actually, that isn’t a disagreement. If it is, then show us the two denominations that disagree and cite your source.

It was a dishonest question.
Do you really hold that there are no important differences of doctrine among non-Catholic Christian denominations?
No. I just dispute your lie that there are thousands of denominations and point out that we are in agreement on essential issues.
You dispute the word ‘thousands’. Do you dispute that there are ‘hundreds’?
Of course. As that lie has been debunked numerous times, of course I dispute it.

You’ve repeatedly called me a liar, and asserted that Catholics as a group are dishonest. Time for me to disengage.

God bless you all the same, and grant you His heart’s desire for you.

I know where you’re coming from. It’s one of the most frustrating things I’ve experienced to show someone exactly what the Church says in her own words, only to hear “But that’s not what you really believe.” The thing is, most of the time what the person believes we teach would actually, in practice, be easier to do while what the Church teaches is often more difficult or so nuanced it takes some real thought to grasp it. I mean, wouldn’t it be easier if we actually did worship Mary and the saints, rather than trying to be sure we’re giving the correct kind of respect to each? Wouldn’t it be far easier to believe just going to Mass and Confession sporadically is enough to get us to Heaven, rather than doing what the Church says and cultivating lives of virtue and practicing penance and self-mastery? I guess my thought is, if the Church is so very wrong why on earth have they made it so irksome to be a good Catholic? Why all the “rules”? A rigorous Catholic spiritual life is no picnic (although it offers the most opportunity for joy this side of Heaven). I just don’t see the logic of people’s arguments when you actually set the issue up in a day-to-day scenario.

I’ve run into this as well. The most ridiculous instance was when a protestant accused the Catholic Church of believing the Pope to be God. When I asked where they got this idea, they claimed the fact that people kiss his ring was proof.

As another poster said, all one has to do is make the protestant cite their source.

Actually, I lied the first time. The most ridiculous argument I ever heard was that it was “unfair” of me to ask this same person to cite their source.

Are you saying there are non-Catholics here on CAF not telling the truth? That you all do believe in infant baptism? That you all believe that baptism is not symbolic? That you all believe that the substance in the Lord’s supper is truly Jesus body and blood?..

Peace!!!
