Unbelievably horrific! Where are the responsible educators in this???
Children cannot go on field trips or receive a tylenol unless parents approve in writing but their children can obtain a contraceptive which requires a person to make a serious decision who is knowledgable about side effects, proper use etc…who probably is still learning math facts, social studies basics…and expect them to make responsible choices about their health…which has potential life threatening side effects and do it all without a parent’s knowledge?!? Scary! I once considered becoming a school nurse in the public school system, but I cannot in good conscience provide contraception to high schoolers let alone middle school kids. More reasons to pray.

I’m sorry but I don’t even agree to this. Although I do have liberal thinking, actions like this make me sick and in some ways make me begin to become more conservative. Stupidity like this law make liberal conservatives look foolish. There is no reason an 11 year old needs to be taking BC. There is no reason an 11 year old needs to have their medical record kept private when parents are solely responsible for them till 18. There is no reason a school should think they can act as the role of the parent no matter what.

I would be off the wall if I had a child in any school that thought they could prescribe medication without my approval.

I saw this this morning also. The first thing I thought of is, OK, so the school is providing this because the child ‘can’t talk to their parent.’ So who is going to tell the pediatrician that the child is taking this? What if the girl has reactions to it, or is put on another drug that interacts with the pill? There are some serious health risks here besides the very serious ones that come with the pill on it’s own.

And on another more practical note who is paying for the prescription? Does the school actually hand out the pills? So are the Maine taxpayers paying to have some 11 yo girl on the pill without her parent’s knowledge??

Praying HARD!
