Maine second collection to fight gay marriage [CN-USA]

The Diocese of Portland, Maine has asked parishioners to donate in a second collection on Sunday to raise money to help repeal the state’s same-sex marriage law.

Officials said donations like the ones collected at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception will go to pay for television ads aimed at overturning the state law that legislators passed last spring, WMTW News 8 reports.

Outside the church, two former nuns who now belong to a group called “Catholics for Marriage Equality” said they are disappointed by the church’s decision to ask for a second collection.

I hope others who are not from Maine will support the Portland Catholic Diocese and send a donation.

Remember this is up for vote on November 3rd, 2009.

Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Maine all have gay marriage.
Maine is the only state that will have it on the ballot as they are a referendum state so please support them in their fight to repeal it.

This shows how powerful the gay community is when it comes to collecting funds to keep gay marriage.

There will also be thousands of gay volunteers who will flood into this tiny populated state.

The Catholic Church in Maine does not have that kind of clout but I am still so proud to be a catholic when I see leadership like this from a Catholic Bishop
