major mormon mistake

I hate to say it, but you were likely asked to be the Ward’s Scout Leader in order to proselytize you. It’s actually quite standard LDS operating procedure; in fact I remember a string of Scout leaders I had were all inactive members who once becoming active again after a few months of being our troop leader would be “released from their calling” just for us to get a new, inactive LDS Scout leader. Chances are that in a couple months they’ll realize you have no intentions whatsoever of joining the LDS Church and you will suddenly find yourself released of your calling so that a more worthy man, one who actually has the priesthood, is cultivating the minds and characters of those young Aaronic Priesthood holders.

This is all made up!!!
Yes, mormonism is made up. It was made up by Joseph Smith and his buddies.

The other point is, this IS what they believe.

Truth is stranger than fiction sometimes.

My wife converted to Mormonism from jehovahs witness about seven years ago. We have come to a mutual understanding that our beliefs do not line up with each other, but we respect each other. I’m Catholic, and here is my mistake. :

Several months ago, a very nice person from her church asked me if I would be interested in working with their boy scout troop. Since I thought it would be a neutral thing I agreed to help out.
Well, I’ve been doing it now for three months, and the undercurrent of trying to get me involved in their church is getting quite discouraging.
My main focus was perhaps doing something outside of the religion that we both could be together with, but no.
The religion plays a HUGE part in their scouting program, and I feel if I just walk away my wife will develop that religious haughty attitude that the mormons are famous for. ( Believe me it really gets thick at times).
How can I walk away, and preserve the respect, and/or mutual understanding that has developed during the past few months between my wife and the mormon people?
I’m not trying to be a jerk about this, just want to end it on a decent note.
Mary: I think I would just state things honestly and to the point like your post. It was very nice and non- confrontational.

What? Never heard that one before.
**From An Insider’s View of Mormon Origins by Grant H. Palmer:

he [Joseph] saw Captain Kidd [the pirate] sailing on the Susquehanna River during a freshet, and that he buried two pots of gold and silver. He claimed he saw writing cut on the rocks in an unknown language telling where Kidd buried it, and he translated it through his peepstone…[and] dug for Kidd’s money, on the west bank of the Susquehanna, half a mile from the river… Jo became known all over New York and Pennsylvania. Sometimes his brothers were with him… Jo and his father were all the time telling of hidden things, lead, silver, and gold mines which he could see.**

Also, Captain Kidd was known to travel to the Island of **Comoros **and the capital of Comoros is…Moroni. If you don’t believe me, look at a map of Southern Africa.

I looked…the map said the capital is Moheli, not Moroni…😃

But there is a city called Moroni… and Domoni, Famboni…🤷

Did JS somehow made a trip there…how did he get to get the name Moroni?

Ok, I have to get this book…LOL

How Ironic that the capitol Is Moroni, in South Africa, and they had a ban on blacks and the priesthood.

Just amazing, and just when I thought I had heard it all.

Funny, page 94 of the Children’s Atlas of the World shows the Island of Comoros and the capitol is Moroni. I have it in my hand.

FYI,

While working for a nice Jehovahs Witness family, I decided to use the opportunity to ‘witness’ to them about true Christianity. Over time, with their very friendly ways, supper at their house, invitations to various get togethers, I eventually became one. It took me 20 years to get out.

PLEASE LEAVE THE BOY SCOUTS before the Mormons slowly but surely with the help of your wife and children turn you into one too. By the way, what about your children. Mormons will work on them hard.

I googled “capital city of comoros”, and it came up Moroni.🤷
I updated my post…I looked at another map…and it said Moheli…but there is a city called Moroni in the island…must have been made the capital…:D:shrug:

Just looked at the map again…there are several islands…it is a cluster it looks like.

Oh, there’s more!

**Palmyra natives Philetus B. Spear and Pomeroy Tucker both recall (though decades later) that Smith enjoyed reading about Captain Kidd and his adventures. Historian James H. Tucker, in his 1888 book Early Day of Mormonism, writes that the autobiography of Captian Kidd “made a deep impression upon [Smith].”

Joseph Smith and his family were intimately involved in “money-digging,” a practice where hidden treasure was sought using diving rods or seer stones. On some of their money-digging ventures, it appears the Smiths were after Kidd’s treasure. Several sources attest to this, but the earliest is an 1844 letter to Joseph Smith by his former Vermont neighbors: “If you studied piracy while digging for the money your Father pretended old Bob Kidd [William Kidd was also known as Robert or Bob] buried, you should also have studied the fate of the pirates.”**

How did -anybody- take this guy seriously. He’s obviously a wacko… This has made my head hurt, but it’s nice to have a bit more information about them, makes it easier to debate XD

Oh Prodigal, you haven’t even seen the tip of the iceberg yet.

Hang around some of the mormon threads, or look up some old ones.

You’ll go from your head hurting, to a migraine.

What would be interesting to find out now is, the religious make up of the City, and Country.

I wonder how many “wards”, “stakes”, or “temples” they have?

I would laugh hysterically if the answer was 0
