What would be interesting to find out now is, the religious make up of the City, and Country.

I wonder how many “wards”, “stakes”, or “temples” they have?

I would laugh hysterically if the answer was 0
From Wiki

Islam is followed by about 99 percent of Comorians, almost all of whom are Sunni Muslims. Fewer than 400 citizens—approximately 1 percent of the population—are Christian, all of whom reportedly converted to Christianity within the last half of the 1990s. Small groups of foreigners are Hindus or Christians. Following a 1999 military coup, the May 2000 constitution did not allow for freedom of religion. The December 2001 Constitution of Comoros does provide for this freedom, however, it also makes Islam the state religion and the government tends to discourage the practice of other faiths. The practice of Christianity is particularly restricted. There are two Roman Catholic churches and one Protestant church. Since before the 1999 coup, the government has restricted the use of these churches to noncitizens only. Harassment and social discrimination of Christians is widespread. Proselytizing of Christianity is prohibited. The Grand Mufti, who is nominated by the president to serve in the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, serves as the government counsel on Islamic faith and law.

Oh, the Irony :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Did JS somehow made a trip there…how did he get to get the name Moroni?
Hi pablope - As you can see by my other posts and links, Joseph Smith read about Captain Kidd and his adventures. If I am remembering correctly, the Island of Comoros was a popular pirate “hang-out” and 50 of Kidd’s men died there of cholera. Also, I think Kidd was hanged there.

There is also a legend that wherever Capt. Kidd buried treasure there is a spirit guarding the treasure.
JS claimed to find the golden plates in the Hill **Cumorah **(the spelling in the book of Mormon has been changed by the way) and they were being guarded by a spirit. He claimed to have been visited by the angel Moroni.

Covering up Camorah

Critics have often pointed out that there is a suspicious link between the hill Cumorah and the angel Moroni, and the Comoros Islands off the eastern coast of Mozambique, the capital of which is Moroni, and has been since before the Book of Mormon. Defenders of the Book of Mormon claim that this is only a coincidence, and that ‘Comoros’ in fact has very little correspondence with ‘Cumorah’. The fact of the matter is that prior to the French occupation of the late 1860’s, Comoros was known by its Arabic name, Camora (sometimes also spelled Comora). It is thus more than a little suspicious to note that the 1830 Book of Mormon uniformly spells ‘Cumorah’ as ‘Camorah’. See, for example, the original text of Moroni 6:2:

And I, Mormon, wrote an epistle unto the king of the Lamanites, and desired of him that he would grant unto us that we might gather together our people unto the land of Camorah, by the hill which was called Camorah, and there we would give them battle.

It’s utter nonsense to assume Joseph Smith plagarized these names and put them in the Book of Mormon…
We know that the Book of Abraham is a complete fake. Why would we assume that plagiarizing was beneath him? He plagiarized the King James Bible.

But when you put the entire gestalt of the proofs against the BoM together, it obviously becomes only one more small piece of the puzzle.

Borrowing place-names to use as names of people and places isn’t exactly plagiarism.

The Book of Mormon emulates the language and style of the King James Bible because that is the scriptural style Joseph Smith, translator of the Book of Mormon, was familiar with.

Quotations from the Bible in the Book of Mormon are sometimes uncited quotes from Old Testament prophets on the brass plates, similar to the many unattributed Old Testament quotes in the New Testament; others are simply similar phrasing emulated by Joseph Smith during his translation.

Critics also fail to mention that even if all the Biblical passages were removed from the Book of Mormon, there would be a great deal of text remaining. Joseph Smith was able to produce long, intricate religious texts without using the Bible;** if he was trying to deceive people, why did he “plagiarize” from the one book—the Bible—which his readership was sure to recognize?**

A: To tell people that what he was reading from the “golden plates” was true. It was just another gospel of our Lord. Pretty easy deception for people that were not very educated at the time. As far as “a great deal of text remaining”, thats awhole lot of “It came to pass” The sooner you lds open up your hearts and minds, the better off your soul will be.

Hi gazelam - I read your link. It does not address the fact that Joseph Smith read about Captain Kidd and spoke about him to people in his area.

The link you provided refers to with JS seeing a map - in fact, he read the biography (or autobiography) of Captain Kidd.

Did you read what JS had to say about Captain Kidd and seeing him sail down the Susquehanna River?

Well gazelam, I think its utter nonsense that a fraud like smith would claim to have done more than Christ ever did. But yet you call yourself a Christian but follow a man made religion and so called prophets teachings.

You and I in a small way are contributing to the fulfillment of the prophecy of Moroni that Joseph Smith’s name would be known for good and evil among all nations, kindreds, and tongues.

lds.org/scriptures/pgp/js-h/1?lang=eng See verse 33.

It isn’t prophesy if it it’s written after it happened, by the time this supposed prophesy was written JS was already known for both good and evil.

We know that the Book of Abraham is a complete fake.
Au contraire
Upon examination by professional Mormon and non-Mormon Egyptologists, the “Book of Abraham” papyri were found to bear no resemblance to Joseph Smith’s interpretation, and were common Egyptian funerary texts, dating to about the first century BC.

In other words, a complete fake.

My wife converted to Mormonism from jehovahs witness about seven years ago. We have come to a mutual understanding that our beliefs do not line up with each other, but we respect each other. I’m Catholic, and here is my mistake. :

Several months ago, a very nice person from her church asked me if I would be interested in working with their boy scout troop. Since I thought it would be a neutral thing I agreed to help out.
Well, I’ve been doing it now for three months, and the undercurrent of trying to get me involved in their church is getting quite discouraging.
My main focus was perhaps doing something outside of the religion that we both could be together with, but no.
The religion plays a HUGE part in their scouting program, and I feel if I just walk away my wife will develop that religious haughty attitude that the mormons are famous for. ( Believe me it really gets thick at times).
How can I walk away, and preserve the respect, and/or mutual understanding that has developed during the past few months between my wife and the mormon people?
I’m not trying to be a jerk about this, just want to end it on a decent note.
Just be polite and respectful. I have Mormon friends and I think they will understand. If something makes you feel uncomfortable, you shouldn’t feel forced to participate.

Is this seriously what they believe?

I mean, I like the idea of having a planet up in heaven to play around with, but I meant it more in the, I want to build stuff for a long time sense, like Minecraft or Inception…

Spirit children?

Being a god? It’s a tempting thought, but isn’t that why Satan got the boot; wanting to be a god?

Is that seriously what they believe?
The now Catholic Thomas Smith isn’t the only former Mormon who has spoken about this being their beliefs. The LDS Church doesn’t allow their Missionaries to tell people about it because they know how it sounds, but if you tell them you already know, their not supposed to deny it. They also believe that the Apostle John never died and is still wandering around the world and getting mistaken as “Big Foot”.

D&C 132
19 And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife by my word, which is my law, and by the new and everlasting covenant, and it is sealed unto them by the Holy Spirit of promise, by him who is anointed, unto whom I have appointed this power and the keys of this priesthood; and it shall be said unto them—Ye shall come forth in the first resurrection; and if it be after the first resurrection, in the next resurrection; and shall inherit thrones, kingdoms, principalities, and powers, dominions, all heights and depths—then shall it be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, that he shall commit no murder whereby to shed innocent blood, and if ye abide in my covenant, and commit no murder whereby to shed innocent blood, it shall be done unto them in all things whatsoever my servant hath put upon them, in time, and through all eternity; and shall be of full force when they are out of the world; and they shall pass by the angels, and the gods, which are set there, to their exaltation and glory in all things, as hath been sealed upon their heads, which glory shall be a fulness and a continuation of the seeds forever and ever.

20 Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have call power, and the angels are subject unto them.
