Major rant about electronics/gadgets!

***I am so tired of buying electronic gadgets…get them home, pull them out of the box…and the batteries need to charge for 2 hours…5 hours…5 years! I need the thing to work RIGHT NOW, not 3 hours from now…sheesh. We bought a laptop–it worked without being plugged in, right out of the box. But, a shark vac…needed to charge for 24 hours…

I bought dh a camcorder a few years ago, and we lost the cord during our recent moves. So…we bought a new camcorder today. DD is playing guitar in a festival tonight at a local Catholic school…I want this on film! Go up to the store…buy a camcorder…get it home…and it needs to charge for 2 hours, and we have to leave before the charging is through.

I’m sorry, I just needed to rant over this…I don’t get these companies…can’t they have the batteries charged before packaging up their products…and shipping them off to the stores? :crying: Now, I have to take the computer up to the concert…because it has a webcam…and hold it up to be able to film this, to show dh tonight. He is working, and I want him to see her playing… So…if you happen to be at a festival in Florida tonight, and see a dork walking around holding up a laptop filming a concert…it’s me. Hello in advance.

In the grand scheme of life, this is a silly rant. But…when you pay good money for something, it should come READY TO USE! :banghead::crying:***

I agree, it’s really frustrating when you have to charge things before being able to use them…I remember when I got my first cell phone a few years ago I had to leave it plugged in overnight, but this summer I got a new one and I was able to use it right out of the box

It’s nice to see how far you’ll go to get your daughter’s performance on film

You could take the camera, the plug in cord, and an extension cord (LONG) and then plug it in to record at the concert. No guarantee that there is a plug in, but more than likely there is!

I agree, bring the cord and plug it in, there has to be an outlet somewhere.

BTW when my DS1 was 4 he sang in a Christmas program at his school. My battery wasn’t charged I asked the teacher and she showed me an outlet I could use.

I know what you mean! I hate having to charge brand new electronics right out of the box.
To save myself headaches when traveling, I bought myself an AC inverter for the car. That way, if I forget to charge my camera battery, I can plug the charger into the inverter and let it charge on the way to where ever I am going. It has been great, and usually gives enough of a charge that I can take all the pictures I like, whether I am travelling 30 minutes away, or 2.5 hours across the state.
The one I have is similar to the one in this link. You plug the inverter into the outlet/cigarette lighter in the car, then plug your battery charger into the inverter.

Well… I’m going to make this short and to the point. There are very good reasons why they do not charge those types of batteries before you get them. For one, there’s no telling how long it will take before the item is purchased. Batteries are just large capacitors after all. Also, if you’ve ever left a battery in something for a long time, there’s a corrosive effect.

Did you also know that you ought to let your laptop battery completely drain itself on a regular basis? Before you plug it in and recharge it? It lengthens the batteries life time (meaning it will last for a few years, not that it will last longer between charges)… there’s some physics/electrical mumbo-jumbo that explains the reasoning behind all of this, but for most people, it’s good that you read the instructions and follow the directions!

We engineering types really do have good reason behind all of this apparent inconvenience!

Plugging into an outlet at the venue is something I have done often too. Hope all goes well at the festival tonight. Will pray the Holy Spirit helps to charge the battery extra fast.

I told dd, maybe we should sell everything, move to a faraway island, with NO gadgets, cars, etc…and ride bicycles everywhere. I would still need my computer to talk to you all though. *

We are home now…and alas, the camcorder is done charging. And alas! I’m reading the directions, and apparently a ‘sd’ card was supposed to come with this, or we needed to buy it? I can’t find it in the box??? I am angry now, because the guy at target should have told us we needed to buy one. He just rang us up and told us we could use it as soon as it was done charging. Anyone have any idea what a sd card is for a camcorder? This is a JVC Everio, if you own one, can you help me? DH is working, I will see when he gets home if he can figure this out. *

Anyways–nevermind to my earlier question about the sd card. Figured it out. WAAAAYYYY on the back of the directions, it shows those items that didn’t come with the camera. I still am not happy with the guy at target…he should have told us to purchse the card. Oh well! Looking forward to Divine Mercy Sunday, GD. *

The SD card is probably just for still pictures–many video cameras will also take (not very good) still pictures. You probably still need a tape or something to record live action things.

*And…Paul…these gadgets should come ready to use. I don’t care to know all the reasons behind why they don’t come ready to use…they just should. If you want to play with a gadget for hours before you actually use it…that is your choice. I feel it’s a waste of time, to have to wait on machinery in this day and age.
