In a recent story: Make me a diamond
Jun. 29 - True love and diamonds are supposed to last forever, and now a company is making diamonds out of loved ones
After 19 years of marriage, Barbara Macknick’s husband Don Rybold passed away in November, 2002. She decided to have his remains made into a small yellow diamond.
Deborah Lutterbeck reports.

Since the company’s inception, they have added a process that extracts carbon from human hair in order to make the gem. If only they would stop using the process with the cremated remains!!!

Exactly - having a gem from live human hair is no problem, even sweet.

Even deceased human hair is fine. After all, hair used to be kept in lockets as a memorial of our deceased loved ones.

Not cremated remains :nope:

I thought you guys were okay with cremation now, as long as it’s not chosen in denial of the resurrection of the body?

hey I know some widowers who like to save money, the diamond made from wife No.1 can then set in an engagement ring for wife No. 2. seriously folks, although Catholic teaching does allow (although does not encourage) cremation, there are strict laws about what do to with the remains, which must be buried or placed in a suitable container and stored in a repository for that purpose (most diocesan cemetaries have such a facility).

Carbon is carbon. It doesn’t have fingerprints or DNA. How do you know the diamond you get is from the carbon you sent? Looks like a great opportunity to run a scam.😉

Oh okay, thanks for clearing that up for me 🙂

Funny (not ha ha funny…the other funny…) my wife and I were just talking about this today – at about the same time as this post!!

Of course, we were actually talking about it for a pet as a way to memorialize our love for our dogs – I think doing it with human remains is kind of macabre to say the least, not to mention the Church rules about this.

I doubt there are any restrictions about doing it with a beloved pet??? (Or are there?) BUT we did not have any idea about the price. A bit too much even though we love our pets very much.

Sorry Choo-choo-dog…

AS LONG AS THE CREMATED REMAINS ARE BURIED IN A CATHOLIC CEMETERY…NOT MADE INTO JEWELRY!
ACCORDING TO CHURCH LAW CREMATED REMAINS ARE TO BE BURIED IN A CATHOLIC CEMETERY AT THE FIRST EARLIEST CONVENIENCE.
