If you see something fly off a shelf but not verified by the camera…

Ah good point.

I thought you were thinking along the lines of orbs and apparitions and stuff.

don;t make contact, theres not ghosts, we get judged heaven, hell or purgatory when we die.

There is demons though.

Let your local priest know.

Infrared cameras will capture some evidence if your house is infested. Best to have them motion activated.

I have attempted lucid dreaming, If that’s what you mean. It has not worked for me though.

I often do feel to physical presence along with the thoughts.
I have experienced awareness when dreaming. For the physical, I meant do you get physical sensations rather than intuitive perceptions, when the voice is heard. Some report tingling in the limbs (like nerves) or other physiological phenomenon.

Saul and the Medium at Endor:

Saul then said to his attendants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of her.”

“There is one in Endor,” they said.

So Saul disguised himself, putting on other clothes, and at night he and two men went to the woman. “Consult a spirit for me,” he said, “and bring up for me the one I name.”

But the woman said to him, “Surely you know what Saul has done. He has cut off the mediums and spiritists from the land. Why have you set a trap for my life to bring about my death?”

Saul swore to her by the Lord, “As surely as the Lord lives, you will not be punished for this.”

Then the woman asked, “Whom shall I bring up for you?”

“Bring up Samuel,” he said.

When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out at the top of her voice and said to Saul, “Why have you deceived me? You are Saul!”

The king said to her, “Don’t be afraid. What do you see?”

The woman said, “I see a ghostly figure coming up out of the earth.”

“What does he look like?” he asked.

“An old man wearing a robe is coming up,” she said.

Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground.

Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?”

1 Samuel 28

Ghosts, as in apparitions, may not be real but spirits do stay on the earth if they have any unfinished business that they must take care of.
The Church disagrees with you. There is no such thing as someone who dies but their spirit does not pass over because of unfinished business. It is an infallible teaching of the Church that when we die we IMMEDIATELY go to Hell if dying in a state of mortal sin or IMMEDIATELY are saved (either Purgatory first then Heaven or straight to Heaven) if dying in a state of grace.

It’s been widely believed by Catholics that souls in Purgatory often finish their time on earth, especially in places where they committed the sin
I would love to see a Magisterial source for this within the last 800 years please!
I believe you are confused with a view once popular amongst our Eastern Orthodox brethren…and indeed many eastern religions.

This is nonsense or poorly put my friend.
The only thing that is powerful is the strength of our devotion.
That fervour may or may not be more deeply aroused by a sacramental. The “power” is not in the priest, the blessing nor the altar sorry. That is superstitious thinking if you truly believe what you say.

I said it was widely believed not officially stated. Have you heard of the book Purgatory: Explained by the Lives and Legends of the Saints by Father Schouppe? Very popular and interesting book. It has stories about souls doing their “time” on earth in the place they committed a certain fault. St. Padre Pio also encountered such things.

Infrared is usually used for night vision.
I know that. Thats because humans are still visible.
Why do you believe ghosts cannot be invisible on that spectrum too? Are they perhaps weak ghosts or novice ghosts and havent got the hang of phase shifting yet?
I suggest UV cos the skilled ones wont be expecting that.

You could probably scan numerous spectrums. The most you’ll ever see is shadows and mist :man_shrugging:t2:

So why did you think IR would be any better than daylight. Ghosts are invisible, they dont need to come out in the dark…

It helps illuminate dark rooms. Flash photography seemed to work pretty well too.

I know all this.
You haven’t really tackled the ghost question.
This IR stuff is TV nonsense and makes no actual practical sense.
I am surprised the ghost experts here haven’t realised that yet.
Or am I missing something?

May I suggest that if it is not officially stated then “widely believed” is fairly meaningless so far as Catholic faith is concerned. It seems little more than the equivalent of “rubber necking” on the highway. Fun, but ultimately a waste of time, it slows everybody down and may even cause accidents.

What’s the ghost question? There are no wandering souls and 99% of what we see is demonic. Occasionally, a Holy Soul is allowed to visit but that’s rare.
