(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.) (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.) I want to make green scapulars for my parents for Christmas. I live in the Philippines where it’s very hot and humid and it’s my understanding that you can wear a metallic scapular in such tropical places. I want to make one that looks more traditional and vintage but sturdy, so I want to cross stitch one where the ‘clothing material’ is a type of plastic but looks like a type of cloth ro the eyes until you touch it. Can I make a green scapular via cross stitching? This type of plastic cloth is used for stitching small items or items not to be framed so it’s sturdy and doesn’t fringe at the sides.

Since it’s not a traditional scapular originating from Catholic habits, does it have to be made of wool and shaped in a square/oval?

Can I make a cross stitch of this embedded into everyday materials or things like key chains, coffee mugs, etc? Because they will not use nor keep a scapular necklace but I want to make one embedded in something I know they will use often, keep, and treasure. I want them to always see it as a reminder but not necessarily look or worn like a traditional scapular to encourage their interest.

Below are pic samples but I will make the design and prayer in line with that of a green scapular:

What a beautiful idea. I think that will be fine as your parents won’t be wearing them anyway. Please post them when completed.

I’ve just finished the mug, took me about a week to do including making the pattern.

Hopefully the key chain/necklace will be much faster. 🙂

I hope the cloth material and mug is ok as a scapular?

I’ll probably make one more for me, a necklace specifically and put the old green scapular my grandmother gave me 20 years ago in it. It will be similar to the key chain excepting it’s a necklace and no casing.

The mugs and the key chains are lovely! You certainly made quick work of them!

I tend to get obsessive and keep working on something until it’s finished. The pattern took the longest, for the mugs specifically. Took a week just to research on the design, another 3 days on the pattern itself (trial and error with a graphing paper), and 4 days to finish the mug cross stitch. The key chain was easier since I already had the pattern and was much smaller.

I also tried putting a face on our lady but it looked funnily comical since the face was so small, so I removed it.

I really hope these are ok, green scapulars need to be blessed so I hope the priest won’t think it’s weird.
