I thought it was clearly established centuries ago that they were forgeries.

1000, 1666, 2000. Malachy…I never understood this consuming preoccupation with Eschatology.

Please forgive my ignorance, but as my post clearly stated, I am a new convert, about one month old. This was the first I had ever heard of these prophecies. I posted this thread hoping that someone could actually help me by suggesting some resources that would help me learn. If this thread offends you, I kindly suggest that you post here no more. Pope Paul VI [1953-1968]—“Flos Florum” (Flower of flowers). His reign as pontiff was relatively short—only five years. Real name: Giovanni Battista Montini. Like Pius XII he reached the zenith of power in the Catholic Church through the office of the Vatican Secretary of State. The Conclave of Cardinals elected him Pope in 1963. The coat of arms of the Montini family depicts three fleurs-de-lis. Pope John Paul I [1978-1978 (34 days)]—“DeMedietate lunae” (of the half moon).

Did anyone notice that the article says Pope Paul VI’s reign was only 5 years? Excuse me if I’m wrong but didn’t he reign from 1963-1978 - 15 years?

Being a new convert, I have no idea. If anyone can help me and suggest some resources so I can learn, I would appreciate it.

Thank you for your support. I appreciate it. It’s sad when people who claim to be Christians don’t show Christian love, especially to new converts. Think of the potential damage they do to G-d’s kingdom.

Anyhow…I had mentioned my own idea a while back in another thread on this subject, but here goes: I am a skeptic about this. Why? Because I can’t get past the fact that the “prophecies” were just too late to be “discovered”; and because of the final pope being named “Petrus Romanus”…
Isn’t every pope, in a sense, Petrus Romanus? The pope is always the bishop of Rome. And he serves as the successor to St. Peter. (To me, this is kind of like the old line, “Is the Pope Catholic?”).
I just would find the whole thing a lot more convincing if there were better provenance; if there were more detail (the original Latin is even more terse than the English); & if the final pope were named something a little more believable.
Of course, none of this proves or disproves anything. It is strictly my personal :twocents: . (And, as I say, I have been up all night…). God bless.

Prophecies exist today, some are approved and some are not, but they seem to always have the same meaning.

I think that the best advice you’ve received is that offered by Liberian above.

As for do I personally think the prophesies are true? No, from what I’ve heard they were “lost” for several centuries after the time of Malachi, and when “found”, the ones that had already passed were very detailed and corresponded quite closely with the recent popes. Those for the future popes were far more vague and could roughly be applied to nearly anyone.

Not everything that someone claims is from a saint or has a relation to the Church is necessarily truth. Truth comes from the Magisterium, and this does not have such a provinance.

Am I positive it’s a fake? No, but as Liberian shows, does it really matter? I think of when Jonah shared the need to repent and God didn’t punish the city as promised. Pray for your family, treat them with respect and the love of Christ, especially during these early days of your conversion, when they’re most likely trying to figure out what’s come over you. Let them see a better you than they’ve known before and you will be doing more than anything else you can towards their salvation.

It takes a long time to become consistant with your conversion, so don’t worry too much when you trip and stumble along the way. You’ll get there.

Thank you CARose! It’s comforting to me to know that these prophecies are so widely disbelieved and that the Vatican hasn’t officially approved them. Like I said in an earlier post, I want my family to have plenty of time to come to faith in the Messiah. I pray for them daily, that their eyes will be open and they will accept him.

As for me, I pray that these prophecies are false, and that the world has many centuries left. Either way, I do plan to live my life for G-d and do my best to honor Him and learn about His Church.

You know, it’s really sad. I thought that when I placed my faith in the Messiah, I would be met on these forums and in my parish with joy and open arms. I thought that everyonwe would be willing to help me and answer my questions in these early days of my faith. While most have been this way, a good number have not. That’s so sad. Why would a Catholic not want to help a new convert to the Catholic faith? It’s puzzling.

it’s very sad. but remember many, many people are only Catholic/Christian by name. and even the sincerest of Catholics are still human, and fall into sin.

In dealing with humans you will get alot of different personalitys including abrasive ones.Steve(when you read this Steve please do reply)antagonized me to death when we were trying to stop the execution of Terri Schiavo,he has very strong opinions and sometimes jumps in there without knowing what is going on We are very glad you are here in dealing with Catholics or any humans some Catholics put their opinion before the Church and some put the Church and the teachings of Christ before themselves,most of us struggle to decrease so Jesus can increase I am very happy you are coming home

Most of the people at my parish have been great. However, I have had some people (Mainly members of the choir, since they’re really the only people I know in the parish) get annoyed with me when I ask questions about the faith. That’s why I post on here. At least here I know that the posters want to answer questions.

For example, someone on my choir was talking about these prophecies a few days ago. Having never heard of them, I asked a few questions. She acted like she was annoyed, and didn’t really want to answer me. She did however, recommend the article that I posted a link to in my first post here. I read it, and it sounded legitimate. It scared me, so I posted here, etc. It sounds like alot of Catholics dismiss these prophecies. I do pray that it is bogus, so my family will have more time to accept the Messiah.

Thank you for the encouragement, I appreciate it. I understand, I’m working on myself too. I have quite a ways to go in developing my Christian love and temperament too. I pray every day that G-d will develop the love of the Messiah in me. It’s difficult sometimes! :yup: I’m glad to be coming home too. This has been a largely positive experience. And thanks to all the posters here who have taken the time to answer my questions and address my fears about these prophecies!
