MALKIN CAUGHT IN MORE LIES

June 10, 2010

Catholic League president Bill Donohue issued the following remarks today on the league’s ongoing controversy with Anthony Malkin, the owner of the Empire State Building who denied Mother Teresa the honor of having the building towers shine blue and white on August 26, the 100th anniversary of her birthday:

Malkin said yesterday that he has a policy denying any tribute to religious individuals or organizations. As I pointed out yesterday, that didn’t stop them from honoring John Cardinal O’Connor and Pope John Paul II when they died, nor did it stop a tribute to the Salvation Army on its 125th anniversary, or Rev. Martin Luther King last January. I have now learned that on April 25, 2009, the towers were aglow in blue and white in honor of the Salesian Sisters, an order of Roman Catholic nuns.

In other words, Malkin is obviously lying about his so-called policy, and for some reason harbors an animus against Mother Teresa. He owes it to everyone to come clean and tell the truth about what makes him really tick. Like a coward, he refuses to debate me on TV. Meantime, we are going ahead with our demonstration on August 26, and will not yield unless he comes to his senses.

Or when the building was alit red and yellow for communist China’s anniversy. A fellow on You Tube called papistwitness does an eexcellent vid on this, and how the Empire State Building is a Catholic building. From the construction president (Alfred Smith), to the workers, to the architecture. To deny the commemoration of Mother Theresashows just how clear the mindset is of NY Americans towards Chistianity.
 
Is Mr. Donohue going to be any more satisfied when he says “It’s my building and I choose not to do that?” What makes anyone think this fellow owes them an answer for what he does with something he owns?

I would like to see this tribute, but I’d stop short of demanding someone else do it against their wishes. What a dangerous world it would be when others get to demand YOU do something you don’t want with your property.
 
As much as I hate to agree with DOShea, I really must do it. This reminds me of the townships forcing people to remove any Christian decor from their own homes. This would include from their windows.

You have to admit that this is really only decor that the ESB has when it commemorates certain people and situations (Like Christmas), and if they want to decorate or not, it’s still their choice of how.

New York Americans include of a lot of Catholics. New York City alone is composed of two dioceses, and there are separate dioceses for the neighboring suburbs, so many Catholics are there in the metropolitan area.

That one building manager won’t do this one thing doesn’t, in any way, mean that the population of New York City, which doesn’t own the Empire State Building BTW, is anti-Christian. Sheesh! 🤷
 
The Empire State Building is an American icon recognised throughout the world for its majesty.It may be owned by one man but it belongs to America.Kudos to Bill Donahue for his quest.He doesn’t whinge and snipe behind the safety and anonymity of his keyboard

.He’s out there and American Catholics are lucky to have him.I detect personal animus and embarrassment in posts whenever his name and missions are mentioned.He has accomplished more for the defense of Catholicism in America than ANY other non-clerical Catholic-present company included.

The building does not belong to America. It belongs to Malkin. If America wants it, it can negotiate a price with Malkin and buy it. He owes nothing to Mother Teresa, Donahue, Catholics, or orthodontists. That’s the way private property works in this country.

I am in agreement with those who favor private property rights. The owner of the building can choose to do this - or not do this - solely at his discretion. He doesn’t even have to provide a reason if he doesn’t want to.

Who here has decorated their house for Mother Teresa? Would you do it if Donahue demanded you to do it?

Donahue has a right to disagree…and to organize a protest. That is his rights…personally I just want Malkin to admit that the real reason. I think he has some sort of bigotry towards Mother Teresa.

On what do you base your idea that he has some bigotry towards MT? What is the evidence?

Have you decorated your house for MT? If not, does that indicate you have some bigotry towards MT?

Exactly-that is what this whole thread is about not" inviolable"property rights.If he had a policy of not honouring ANYONE then these naysaying posters would have a point.But he DOES honour others especially monsters for responsible for the murder of 100+million people.The hypocracy on this thread reeks.

Let’s not get silly here.I have several pictures of Mother Theresa in my home so yes,I have decorated my house in her honour.This thread is about people’s personal distaste of Bill Donahue and the fact that Malkin decorates his edifice in honour of a Chinese mass murderer but not one of God’s best friends.This thread is vearing into the absurd and facile arguementation is indicative of desperation.

Private property rights are in fact the primary point of this thread. As the private property owner in question, Malkin can choose whether or not to do this, and it is solely his discretion in making the decision. You are free to believe that Malkin is being hypocritical, in that he has permitted this in other situations. However, there is no hypocrisy among the posters on this thread who disagree with you, as we all share the belief that private property rights trump what anyone ‘wishes’ Malkin would do with ‘his’ property, and that is regardless of his reasons for doing so. Obviously you don’t like his decision. However, your opinion - as well as Donahue’s opinion - or anyone elses opinion for that matter - is inconsequential since we don’t own the property - Malkin does.

But this is not Malkins private house…this is his business…he makes money off of tourism and rents…a little bit of a difference. Apparently Malkins has a policy on how to submit the request for honoring someone. This process was followed. I think that people have a right to say…if he’s not going to be forthright…then lets protest and hit him in the pocketbook. It’s the same process I would use for Walmart. I would NOT use that process for someone’s private home where they were not attempting to make money off of us. So–your houe is safe…:rolleyes:

Whether it’s a private residence or a private business, one thing is the same and that is that Malkin is the owner.

As a consumer, you are free to either patronize (or avoid) whatever businesses you wish.
