Man arrested after attempting to shoot Papal security guard

A security guard protecting the Pope was shot at with an air gun. The 30 year old suspect has been arrested and detained. This happened within the zone of security to protect the Pope.

No one was injured, and the shooting seems to have been the act of a mentally unstable person. It doesn’t seem to be directly connected to Pope Benedict.

Erfurt police spokesman Dirk Sauter said the shooting was “several kilometres” from the Cathedral Square and was not initially thought to be linked to the papal visit.

The gunman was said to have opened fire from within his own flat before being seized by police officers.

Vatican spokesman, the Reverend Federico Lombardi said there was “no worry” in the papal entourage over the incident.

The Rev Lombardi said it was “an incident that had nothing to do with the Pope” and that “the Pope has not been informed”.

I am actually proud of the Mass in Germany, although i prefer it had been Traditional Mass, nevertheless the germanies kepted the Gregorian Chants. Well done germany. it was very reverent and respectfull.
