A man from western Norway got a rude surprise over the weekend, when the portable toilet he was using proved to be exactly that, and he was carried away.

“I could feel that we were in motion, both the toilet and myself,” said Svein Elde from Ulsteinvik. He’d been attending a meeting of a coastal association (Forbundet Kysten) in Kabelvåg, and had ducked into one of the many portable toilets moved into the area for the occasion.

Suddenly, some crews hired to cart away some of the toilets at the end of the meeting appeared to do their job. With no warning, Elde’s toilet was hoisted up on a forklift.

“We were assigned to assemble all the toilets,” said forklift driver Håvard Fjellsende. "I didn’t see many people around, so I picked up the first toilet I saw.

“Then a few women came walking by. I joked to them that I hoped no one was using it.”

The women, however, pointed to the one on his forklift and said they thought a man was inside it. “I thought they were joking back, so I didn’t believe them,” said Fjellsende. “Then I saw a hand.”

It was Elde’s. “I had tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t budge,” he said. “I finally managed to force my hand through the top of the door opening, and started waving. That’s when I heard someone say, ‘Oh, I see a hand.’”

Fjellsende immediately set the toilet down. Elde was relieved, to put it mildly.

“All I could think about was what would happen if the toilet tipped over,” Elde said. “Me, together with all its contents after a long weekend…”

Here in Mountain View, Arkansas (the Folk Music Capitol of the World), we have a lot of festivals celebrating American folkways, art and crafts. One of them is the annual Beanfest, where we prepare pots of baked beans over cookers on the courthouse square.

The event includes the famous Outhouse Race, where fantastical vehicles made up as outhouses are pushed through the streets at speed.

Some of us got a porta-potty, stripped and padded the interior, and put it with the other porta-pottys trucked in for the event. We put a chain around it, and an “Out of Order” sign on it.

Just before our stage in the race was called, one of us slipped inside. When we were called to the starting line, we roared, charged the potty, wrapped the chain back around it, and heaved it onto a wagon, and ran the distance with the stooge hammering and yelling to get out.

The crowd loved it!http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon10.gif

Was making up a National Guard drill one weekend, along with several other guys, including a shavetail who really thought he was something. After tolerating him and his obnoxious manner for a day and a half, we were discussing how to get even. About that time he went to use the porta john. We pulled a tank up about fifty feet in front of it and discharged the propane cannon simulator. After the potty rocked back and forth a few times, he came charging and this time literally showed his behind.

What is a shavetail? Very funny thread!!!
When the Army purchased mules, their tails would be shaved – to indicate that they were unbroken. By the time the tails grew out again, they had been trained and could be relied on.

By extension, Second Lieutenants are called “shavetails” because they lack experience and seasoning.
