Lindner, the priest, is 65.

"In 1998, Lynch and his younger brother received $625,000 in a settlement with the Jesuits of the California Province after accusing Lindner of sexually abusing them in 1975 during church-led camping trips in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

The boys, who were 7 and 5 then, were raped in the woods and forced to have oral sex with each other while Lindner watched, Harris said.

Lindner denied abusing the boys and was not criminally charged.

He has been accused of abuse by nearly a dozen people, including his sister and nieces and nephews, and was named in two lawsuits for abuse between 1973 and 1985, according to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Lindner was removed from the ministry, and has lived at the Los Gatos home since 2001."

Am I missing something in the math here barb because I am seriously trying to make any sense out of this that I can thank you so much for posting…I just prayed for victims of abuse, and then for our priests…

Obviously, I have zero compassion for anyone who would dare to even think about molesting/sexually abusing a child, but this isn’t the way to handle the situation.

I agree. I can’t blame the man for wanting revenge but I can blame him for actually going through with it. I dare to say though that the man who beat the priest up might have considored it theraputic - but I bet that it if it did stop the pain, it didn’t for long.

Yes. You need to ask yourself if the 5 year jail sentence is worth vigilante justice!

this is sad.
the past is sad
the present is sad
just sad

My thoughts too. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Oh, how sad…so, so sad…granted, the molester did wrong, but-not wise to go beating him up…I’d venture to say that’s not going to heal the pain the abuse caused.

See, this is why you need to try and understand they WHY of any wrongs done to you, forgive the wrongdoer-let it go, and move on…look at what the anger and pain did to this person…beating your abuser within an inch of his life doesn’t solve anything…

Agreed.

My suspicion, however, is that a jury would have far more sympathy for the person who was sexually abused rather than for the molester, and that he would be acquitted of wrongdoing.

It’s really unfortunate that this man continues to revolve around in this circle. I can understand him doing it and why he did it, but it’s so unhealthy for him (mind, body and soul.)

He and his brother were forced into it as children, later as adults by reliving the ordeal and then bringing it out into public view, and now here again, he’s back inside the circle physically beating his molester and being jailed for doing so, bringing back into public view his molestation.

Prayers for him to find strength to fight every welling up of hatred with perpetual forgiveness.

Sad? Absolutely. If the victims felt that their molesters were dealt with properly, I suspect the anger would not manifest this way.

The Church has done little to assure these victims that their attackers are being dealt with fairly. They feel frustrated and angry. They lash out and take justice into their own hands. Sad? Absolutely.

People who feel that their antagonists are dealt with and punished within the law do not act out like this. God Bless these victims and may God heal their hearts and souls.

I totally understand the pain that this man has endured. To think that a priest would do this is so unbelievable, yet we know that we cannot trust anyone these days. May God prove this man innocent and may our Lord punish this unholy vessel who He thought was one of His own. May God bless this poor soul and may God punish this horrible priest.

Parents be very careful who you leave your children with. Just because he is a priest there is reason to doubt his qualifications. Think parents! Don’t be so trusting!!!
Be in control!

If someone punched my girlfriend, I’d beat them to a pulp.

If someone molested me when I was little, I’d probably beat them to the point on the verge of death. If the priest IS guilty, he deserved what he got, regardless of what how old he is. Even if he’s “seeken forgiveness”, that doesn’t change the fact that he deserves what he got. Think about the Good Thief on the cross. He converted to Jesus christ and repented, but he still suffered.
