I don’t oppose the church though. Just because i disagree with how a word is used doesnt mean im against the group lol

But point taken
I am confused, then. If you do not oppose the Church, why do you oppose her right to fire employees who do not agree with her? You said “Just because you disagree with some ones life style should not make you have the right to fire them.”

Just because you disagree with some ones life style should not make you have the right to fire them. :twocents:
Religious organizations, when done right, have standards that transcends any “fairness” and “non-discrimination” blather.

Mostly because i only think one should be fired if they pose a threat or are not good workers rather than personal reasons, but thats just me

So, the fact that he is missing one very important qualification necessary to do his job doesn’t matter?

He does pose a threat. He poses a threat to the faith, and undermines the message and beliefs of the organization he works for.

Stating that he was fired by the Diocese of Richmond because of his same-sex civil marriage, a Virginia man has filed a discrimination claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity …

Is this a surprise to anyone?
Will it be a surprise when someone wins one of these and the Church is forced to act in opposition to our faith?
I think not. The question is not if, but how and when. Maybe it will be a same sex church wedding that is denied. Maybe it will be an employee like above who publicly undermines the beliefs of the institution.

And then Christians will be given a choice to capitulate, or be punished.
It will start with deprivation of resources, like tax exempt status etc…loss of suits with monetary punishments, and then go to loss of freedom (AKA jail).
It’s only a matter of time, because reason is missing from this culture, and when reason is gone, what is left to protect the rights of people.

In the end, the very rights we hear people clamoring for will be denied them.

He (or this sort of thinking) poses a threat to human dignity. An association of persons has a right to believe something and live by it, as long as it does not trample another’s rights.

The argument is, this man’s employment is a right also. This man does have the right to work, he also had the freedom to work where he wants to the best of his abilities and opportunities. But he does not have the right to demand his employer conform to his beliefs and the government does not have the right to force an group of people to act against their beliefs. That’s called tyranny.

The right to believe, and live and act by those beliefs, is a basic right. The denial of freedom of belief is an offense against the dignity of human beings. Without it no one is safe from persecution.

I agree, It is only a matter of time before we must choose. I’m afraid our western culture has moved to far for the pendulum to stop now. Only God himself can stop this and move our culture back to reason and faith. Before the pendulum swings back our Christian culture will be sacked by the barbarians at the gate!

Really? Well someone’s rights are about to be trampled whether it is the church or this person. Does this person have the right to the employment even though giving this right to the person denies the rights to the employer?

absurd really!

The sad thing is, when objectivity is gone, no one is safe.
Today it is belief that is persecuted, tomorrow it may be someone else, because in a culture without objectivity, political whim makes right.
Rather that reason makes right, might makes right.

I think people should be careful what they wish for.
