I Just called my mom at work to ask if she knew what happend. She did, her friend who she works with, a devout Catholic says “Doesn’t anyone fear God anymore?” Sigh

The left realizes they’re loosing the battle in Italy so I’m not surprised that this happened. I remember the vision Sister Lucia received of the holy father, with people throwing stones at him and he was weeping. Pray for the Church. Remember, Paul blasphemed the Church before he became a Christian.
Bones, one thing for sure as Fr. Z noted Italy and the Church is in a battle.

I tend to think this “Deranged” (noted as a german man in news sources now ) person is probably suffering from some mental illness? His actions didn’t looked very well planned. As if he had an impulse to just lunge at the Pope? Yet the scary thing is, such events can spark other nuts into acting.

As the blog noted, I was pleasantly surprised that the general audiences of the Holy Father have increased in numbers so much. Well, that assuming all are well-intended Catholics?

I will be praying for the men who protected the Holy Father as well. :tiphat:

May the Lord shower his graces upon them! :highprayer:

Yes I saw that too, and came looking here for info. Apparently he is mentally ill and wanted attention. They have him in a psychiatric hospital. He’s german. That’s all I know.

Did you notice Pope Benedict didn’t even turn around and see what had happened or what the scuffle was about?

I have said a prayer for the Pope, he needs to be careful! I said a prayer for the man who did this too, I think he probably needs 'em.

He jumped too late to have hit the Pope, and almost too late to have gotten to the car. “He was clearly deranged but did not want to kill or harm the Pope, he only wanted to draw attention to himself,” the spokesman said. So it was not at attack on the Pope.

The Pope is not a sacramental!

Did you SEE the footage? He clearly DID try and get at the Pope, the guards had a heck of a time fighting him back from the vehicle. About two times he surged forward trying to get in.

He tried to get to the Pope, yes, but his timing was very poor; that was my point.

Whether or not it was an attack, it didn’t happen, it was foiled, and the man’s in custody.

Actually, there is even a better moment on the clip. Watch carefully as the perp falls to the ground, covered by security. He lands at the feet of one of the Swiss Gaurds. The highly decorated gaurd, seeing that the situation was under control, turned his attention back to the Pope as if nothing happened.

Nohome

With all the noises around him, I doubt he heard that particular noise.

I thought it was funny that the Pope had no idea what happened right behind him…or did he?

It seems that the guy struggled with someone guarding the processional way in order to get across the barrier. Once he jumped, it appeared that he got right to the back of the vehicle immediately, but was obviously wrestled down. The pope seems oblivious to the fact that anything is happenning two feet behind him at all. But had he not been delayed initially getting over the barrier, he just might have bowled Benedict over.

The report said was that he was mentally imbalanced. Don’t Let Fr. Gabriel Amorth hear that, though! 🙂

We must pray for those who harm the Pope and we must pray for Pope Benedict XVI!!! It would be a terrible thing if he would have been hurt. Benedict is a holy man and the Catholic Church is blessed to have him as Pope:thumbsup:

He’s the Vicar of Christ. His job is too important that I believe God wouldn’t allow him to be harmed. If God chose him for the job, then he’d be around for some time.

Remember how he wanted to retire a few times but JPII didn’t allow it. Guess God had a plan for him all along once JPII left for HOME !

Well, that’s the optimistic side of it ! :bounce:

The best video is on Drudge. The man that attacked had drawn the attention of one of the guards standing along the railing. That guard was gesturing to the man and they were probably both also arguing. As the Pope went by, one of his guards watched the two of them arguing but didn’t think it was serious enough to peel off and help.

The man that attacked then took a flying leap at the guard that he was arguing with. That guard caught the full brunt of his attack and fell over backwards with the man on him. Some of the guards who were walking with the Pope and had just gone by, then peeled off and came to the assistance of that guard.

Really the attacker directly attacked the guard that he was arguing with. If his intention was to go directly after the Pope, that wasn’t what he did.

He put a guy in the hospital trying to get to the Holy Father… sounds like an attack to me.

I wasn’t talking about Benedict. I was talking about the assailant!😃

Pax vobiscum!

Man, I would not want to mess with the pope’s bodyguards. They are some of the baddest guys on the planet. Wouldn’t that be a great job, though? Getting to protect the pope and travel with him?

In Christ,
Rand
