I think that you just want to be right and that is it! I also have the impression that you made your decision and you just want someone to validate your choice. That does not leave any room for any useful discussion. You said:
So you have determined that something, I’m assuming not sending your kid to CCD based on the conversation, would be an example of a parent breaking the canon law.
I’m simply asking why you said that. You tell me that I have no right to interpret canon law. How did you arrive at your conclusion that a parent would be breaking it- if you did not interpret it yourself?
So are you saying that it would be a violation of the canon law for a parent not to send their child to CCD?
Or are you saying it is a violation of canon law not to do whatever it is that your pastor requests of you, even if the request is a violation of your rights?
Pax and God Bless.
I did no say that not sending your children to CCD is breaking the CCL because I am no canon layer, it could be but I do not know. I simply said that it is not a good idea to break a law just to see if the pastor is going to break it too. This is simply common sense.
I can read the CCL but that does not make me a canon lawyer. I am smart enough to understand that an article of law does not exist by itself but it always part of a more general canon, and so I do not interpret canon law to make decisions that appear to go against the wishes of my pastor. I would refer to a higher authority.
If you just go over the CCL you will see the following article:
Can. 212 §1. Conscious of their own responsibility, the Christian faithful are bound to follow with Christian obedience those things which the sacred pastors, inasmuch as they represent Christ, declare as teachers of the faith or establish as rulers of the Church.
§2. The Christian faithful are free to make known to the pastors of the Church their needs, especially spiritual ones, and their desires.
Where does your case stand respect to this one? I do not know, again I would just use common sense and talk to the pastor and then if I were not satisfied I would escalate it and then at one point I would just obey.
