“But Pope Benedict XVI has shown himself to be more interested in doctrine and Catholic unity than its relations with other religions and the world outside the Vatican.”

I would hope so!

As much as I hate to see people leave the Church, sometimes the dead branches must be cut off or allowed to fall away to allow the lively shoots to flourish.

Seriously, what do they think his job description is?

Are these bunch who left the Church are Catholics in name only, ya think?

“Catholics from around the world have voiced their disapproval of the pope’s decision. Many in Germany have left the church in response to the pope’s decision.”

This is rediculous. Read the captions on all photos.

God bless our Pope!
Any Catholic that leaves the Church over this already has one foot out the door. How does this directly affect any Catholic outside the SSPX in terms of living out his/her faith?

BTW, I LOVE that pic looking over the Pope’s shoulder from behind as the dove flies off. 🙂

Their loss.

That is how I feel.

I sure won’t be losing any sleep over it.

I seriously doubt that “many” Catholics have left the Church over this. While I know that it may be hard to believe, and is almost unheard of, perhaps there is an anti-Catholic bias in the media. I know this idea is shocking but what do you think? Do you think some reporter have it in for the Church?

Benedict predicted this a while back actually. The Church is going to lose numbers but gain solidarity, orthodoxy, and power. Anyone who “left” the Church over this isn’t actually Catholic.

Translation: Instead of baptizing my babies and coming to mass only on Christmas and Easter, I’m done with the Catholic Church!

That’s very true! My grandmother would prune her garden within an inch of it’s life and it was one of the most beautiful gardens around. Anyone who truly wants to follow Christ will return to the Church and with a more fervent (not lukewarm) Faith.

Yep.👍

:rotfl: sadly though, that is probably the truth for many. If anyone thinks the Pope would resign over this they don’t have a clue and if someone leaves over this, they have even less than a clue.

Thank you, allhers. Someone who thinks the Pope’s job is to supervise geopolitical history education in Central Europe is probably not Catholic, for the same reason that someone who thinks the European Union’s (hypothetical title coming up) Central European Geopolitical History Education Supervisor’s job is to guide and care for the Catholic Church is probably not a member of the European Union’s education offices. So, if anyone leaves the Church over this nonevent s/he wasn’t exactly active in the first place, I’d imagine.🤷

Do you know where I can find that statement? I would love to read this in its entirety. 🙂

Ah Hah!! Someone noticed:tiphat:

BTW, I think that it is our obligation in charity to pray for the poor souls who actually felt the need to leave the Church due to this. I will pray for their conversion of heart so that they return to the Church leaving behind their possible lukewarmness.

We could insert, "Der Newsweek, or “Der US News,” or any number of other glossy weeklys from here or almost any other developed country and wouldn’t notice the difference.
It’s more than groupthink in one country any more, it’s groupthink in most of the world.
Count it all joy…

If you even start to apply some logic to this you end up with the following:

The newspaper is telling us that the Pope extended forgiveness to four bishops who had overstepped their authority and acted excessively and now wanted to start the process of coming home; and that one of those bishops, totally on his own, made thoughtless comments concerning the holocaust; and that because of this many people have given up the Sacraments, given up their weekly worship of God, given up their allegiance to the Church their Lord founded!!!

Give me a break!! If the Faith means that little to these people then the Church will be stronger without them.

This whole thing is another anti-Catholic, anti-Pope beat up and the sooner we forget about it the better.

After I posted this thread I read more on Der Spiegel, and most if not all the articles bash the Pope. I highly doubt people left the Church because of this. Did anyone leave the Church when Pope Benedict offended the Muslims?

Nope, but the following Easter a high profile Egyptian Muslim converted and was baptized by the Pope.
