Even in the face of pleading from members of Catholic clergy, the Pope is advocating abstinance from condoms. Does he think that that will stop people from having sex? The sex drive is biologically only after the drive for survival and is innate. The drive for religion is aquired and is dissimilar over the world, only 33% of whose population is even Christian of any sort. In the perception of many people I’ve talked to, it appears that the Pope is conducting a campaign of genocide and suicide.
It matters not that there is a moral rule against illicit intercourse in that people do it regardless of “the rules.” Look around in your own Catholic congregation. It says (in one translation) that “The wages of sin are death.” So is this now to be deliberate? It makes the issue kind of black and white in more ways than one. On the other hand, the world is, by some standards, overpopulated…We might even benefit by this in the States: fewer people to be charitable to. Is that the point?
