March for Life - anyone going?

After experiencing the wonderful ecumenical spirit of our local rally and march, then watching that same spirit unfold on the EWTN coverage of the rally in D.C., I can’t help but be saddened by the mean-spiritedness of the protesters. But I’m heartened that those groups were pitifully small.

However, I am supremely saddened by the pitifully small minds and hearts of those would-be “Catholics” who chose not to stand with all those people gathered in goodwill, but, instead, to hurl their invariable invective, practicing sin against charity, both to the Church and to the cause of the Gospel of Life, so much in need of our best efforts around the world.

I’ve had this conversation with sedavacantists a few times now. And it seems that no matter how many times I remind them, this never sinks in: it doesn’t matter what you say or do if you separate yourself from the Church and if you do not act from and in and with Love. I don’t know who’s going to Hell, but I don’t think the way they’re acting is the way to get to Heaven.

My priest is Father Patrick Gaughan.

It was probably the Franciscan University that had that many people- it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. We saw them, and it was a HUGE group, so… possibly.

I have to say, I had never seen a nun before. But seeing all the Sisters, Brothers, and Fathers was… amazing. Absolutely amazing. And it’s reminding me why, exactly, I’m entering this church.
 
Thanks for Fr. Pat’s last name. I knew a priest in Ohio who’s last
name is my last name. But your Fr.Pat is not him. That would have been a real coincidence.
I went to school when almost all nuns wore their habits. It’s really
great. Glad to see that more and more are starting to use their
habits again.

I agree. In fact, I had a great discussion about that w/ my 8th graders today. They saw the same sign and wondered what it meant.

I’ve never marched for ANYTHING before, and this was just… so moving. Someone gave me a stopsign-shaped “Stop Abortion Now!” sign, and I held it with pride.

We got there in time to get to the rally and march, then we went to another church to meet up and came home. Traffic on the way out was HORRENDOUS- it was 3 hours before we even got out of DC.

As far as counter-protesters, I only saw one group, holding a big sign that said something along the lines of “You are not members of the Catholic Church- you are members of the Vatican 2 Heresy, and you’re all headed for hell.” My friend thinks they were just anti-Catholic, but I was struck with the impression that they were part of that one group that thinks the papacy has been vacant since before Vatican II. Anyway, Father Eric was leading us all in a rosary when we passed them(Sorrowful Mysteries), and those of us who actually had one in our hands held it up for the counter-protesters to see. Another group near us joined in, and then they started chanting the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and some of us who knew the chant joined in.

All in all, an AWESOME experience. Father Pat here in Athens said our Bishop(Diocese of Steubenville) was there, but he wasn’t announced with the rest of the bishops and archbishops, so I don’t know.

I went. That was the only anti-sign I saw too! I felt a bit of sadness for that person. They could have joined in the march and the spirit of charity that existed between everyone of the different backgrounds represented there. Instead, they chose to wave a sign at Catholics that they were in a Vatican II cult. 😦 Very silly. Way to commemorate the 50 million who have died to abortion on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. :rolleyes:
 
I saw the Vatican II heretic cult sign as well. I thought it was sad, but I couldn’t help but laugh. I’ve never been in a cult before 😛 Thats the only protester I saw.

I did see a lot of clever signs:
“Make history again, Obama. Vote Life.”
“When women give birth to Rocks, I’ll be Pro-Choice” (i thought this one was hilarious.)
“A person’s a person no matter how small” Yay Dr. Seuss!
“If it’s not a baby, Your NOT pregnant”

My classmates and I went to the Youth Rally and Mass for life at the Verizon center. It was so amazing. I mean, it’s one thing to see all the people marching, because while it looks like a lot, you can’t see everyone. But at the Rally, there were at least 30,000 people all in one place. It’s the first time I’d been, and I was surpised when i found out it was an actual, full Mass with communion. I didn’t think it was possible to get it to that many people, but they did. The procession was amazing. I taped it, and it took 15 minutes for all the deacons, preists, and Bishops to process in. it was like a river of white. truly amazing.
There was confession before Mass, and the line was sooo long! I mean that in a good way of course. It was a really strange set up, all face to face in this dining area, people rather close together. some of my friends were nervous because they’d never done face to face before. I told them that unless they murdered anyone, they really didn’t have anything to worry about. When we were waiting out side the exit, we saw some people coming out tears on their faces. So great 🙂

All in all, a truly amazing day. I can’t wait to go next year (but who knows? Maybe we won’t need to go next year? Here’s praying for a miracle!)
 
my parish (and another parish within my cluster) had about 50 people go down to DC. the speeches lasted longer than expected.
 
I attended the Walk for Life here in San Francisco yesterday. It was truly a tremendous faith-filled day. What was especially wonderful was seeing so many young people like myself there standing up for life, praying the rosary, and courageously expressing the faith. I live here in San Francisco and it is a great blessing when so many Christians are gathered together to stand up for righteousness and the Gospel in a city that is so filled with things contrary to the Truth. Of course there were the counter protesters including the abortionists, anti-Christians and the sisters of perpetual indulgence, but the whole march was generally peaceful. I think we should remember to keep those who do not know the Truth and those who are decieved to support abortion in our prayers. Human lives and the salvation of souls are at stake and this is a battle to be won by activism and prayer.
 
There were 8 dads that came from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Indiana. The organizer did a great job. Drove out Tuesday night, went through the Smithsonian Wed AM, then arrived at 3PM for the 7PM Mass at the Basilica. Absolutely beautiful mass, there was 30 minute procession of clergy entering at the beginning including 5 cardinals and ~30-40 Bishops. There must have been 1000 clergy.

Thursday AM we went for a tour of the Capital building thanks to Senator Evan Bayhs staff. Then out to the beginning of the march looking back on the capital. Was great way to do it.

I can’t believe so many young people full of energy. Out of 200k people there were only 3 protestors, the Vatican II cult person, one pro-choice guy with a sign and one guy with a Prochoice/prolife/propig/probacon sign. There were so many sisters there, so many high school age kids and they were singing, saying the rosary and really very full of life rally. We end at the supreme court building and everyone was hanging out there showing such great unity. 👍
 
Our trip to the capital in Topeka, Kansas was also amazing!! The Knights of Columbus led us to the Supreme Court building where we prayed the rosary and other prayers and listen to speeches. There were some negative things though - like the sign “Keep your Rosaries off my Ovaries” but it was a very small pro-choice group compared to the people that were there for life. It was a very moving, spiritual and bitersweet experience. Also, the Kansas Supreme Court won’t let Judge Anderson speak about illegal actions by abortion clinics in Witchita and Kansas City, so please pray that they will let him testify!!

and pray about FOCA too, that would be terrible if it passes
