March for Life - anyone going?

Anyone taking bets that some of the far-left groups stuck around after the inauguration to “counter-protest?” :mad: I have seen pictures of previous Marches on blogs, and the March for Life folks have to put up with a lot of nasty signs and jeers. It is just ugly and I do not doubt Satan is there in the thick of it. They need our prayers for sure!

The year I went I saw very few protesters (less than 30 for sure, maybe even less than 20?) and they were all waiting for us at the end of the March in a little huddle. To my surprise, when I saw the news broadcast of the March they gave them almost equal time and gave the impression there were a lot more protesters than there actually were with their comments and camera shots.

I hope this year it is as peaceful as other years, I hadn’t thought of the possibility of people sticking around after the inauguration… Well, they are all certainly in my prayers, maybe some hearts will be changed from the pro-choicers if they stick around?

Touch with pity the hearts of those women pregnant in our world today who are not thinking of motherhood.
Help them to see that the child they carry is made in Your image - as well as theirs - made for eternal life.
Dispel their fear and selfishness and give them true womanly hearts to love their babies and give them birth and all the needed care that a mother can give.

Our son was supposed to go with his high school today but came down with a nasty cold, bad cough. 😦

Our daughter had gone with her high school but is now in college and couldn’t go. I would have loved to have gone myself, but with my sciatica problem, I have not even been able to even to work since early December! I wish our whole family could go someday if my husband could get off work.

I am hoping next year some or all of us can get there. Our son is very disappointed he couldn’t go today.😦

I live in New England. Grew up in Massachusetts, in fact. I’m prolife, and I know lots of people who are as well. 🤷

I guess it all depends on the crowd you’re hanging out with. Most of the people I know are pro life but in college - not so many. Hey, after 770 - some posts you probably know some now, right?
 
The March for Life was mentioned on NPR today. Of course they had to have the token spokesperson from Planned Parenthood saying how glad they were that the new president supported “women’s health.”

Asking Planned Parenthood if they support federal funding of abortions is like asking the Beef Producers Association if they’d like more people to eat burgers. 🤷 But they did have a representative from the USCCB speaking out against Obama’s initiative to fund overseas “family planning” organizations that provide abortions. So it was a pretty balanced piece overall.
 
I just got back from the March for Life. It seemed like there was a really big crowd this year! I think the March took at least an hour longer than it usually did. Although we expected the crowd to be smaller than usual, this year’s march seemed bigger. Maybe Obama’s election encouraged people to come.

We saw very few counter-protesters. Apparently, the far-left groups did not stick around after the inauguration.

I assume you’re referring to the actor Eduardo Verastegui…someone who watched it on EWTN could probably answer better than me, because we did not get close enough to the stage to see.
 
The DC news station that I watch on a daily basis gave it lots of coverage today. They interviewed 2 women from the Silent No More group and a couple of pro-“choice” protesters. They made it a point to say that this was the biggest group to date. I felt the coverage was fair and balanced.
 
I haven’t decided yet. I’m 7 weeks from my due date and I don’t know if I will physically be able to handle the walk or not.
 
I didn’t get to go to Washington so I watched on EWTN and taped a chunk of it too. I was with ya’ll in spirit!

I did get to go to our March for Life in Birmingham this past Saturday. It was cloudy, windy, damp and the temperature had topped out at 35 degrees…when the march was over and I got back to my car. I was just beginnin’ to feel my toes again. I coulda made another lap! Jim Pinto was there and his talk was rousing, to say the least.

Two things I noticed about our rally before the march:
  1. When we sang some good ol’ Protestant hymns, I was glad for my Methodist upbringin’ and my good ol’ choir trainin’, cuz I could sing along and even joined the lady standing nearby as we sang alto together. (I could spot my fellow Catholics easily at this point. They were ones lookin’ like they wuz wishin’ they had them some hymnals so they could at least hold 'em in front of ‘em while they weren’t singin’.) 😛
  2. When our Bishop prayed the closing prayer he was so proud of writing, I was just waiting to see if he would include the line that asks our Blessed Mother to pray for us. (He did.) Then I wondered if any of our not-so-Catholic brethren would be offended by that. (They didn’t say anything. But they were miiiighty quiet for a minute or two.)
All in all it was great. We had a lot of young people there. The news barely covered and said we had maybe 600, but we’d estimated it more at 1,000. It was a silent march (don’t give hecklers anything to work with) and I’m proud to say that, though people did talk, especially the young folks, everybody got very quiet when it really mattered. As we passed by one of our two abortion mills, a handful of protesters were waiting for us. Our chaperones (KofC, God bless 'em) moved us all to the far, far, far side of the street and told us to keep quiet and to pray for those people.

I heard that part, but I didn’t know what he was talking about…until we came around the corner and there they were, jeering and laughing at us. I am proud to say that I did not hear even one of us reply to them. And I didn’t hear of anything happening to anyone else in the rest of the group. How’s that for witnessing, huh? They couldn’t have had more than 9 protesters lying in wait for us out there, standing in front of their Fortress of Doom, and there were all the pro-life witnesses, marching in the freezing cold and wind.

Would I do it all again? You bet I would! Bring it on! Marches, vigils, 40 Days for Life, I can hardly wait! Praise the Lord, thank you, Jesus! We can do all things through Christ in us! 👍
 
We(my friend from OU and I) got back to our dorm at 6 this morning. 12 hours on a bus each way, and I’m exhausted and sore, but it was SO worth it. I’ve never marched for ANYTHING before, and this was just… so moving. Someone gave me a stopsign-shaped “Stop Abortion Now!” sign, and I held it with pride.

We ended up having a full charter bus, with me and my friend from Athens, OH, Father Seth and some of his high schoolers from St. Mary’s in Marietta, OH, Father Eric and some of his students and families from St. Francis Xavier in Parkersburg, WV(I’ve been to a Latin Mass there, where Father Eric was one of the readers- AMAZING), and Father Doug and some of his flock from the Co-cathedral in Charleston, WV, where we all had mass at 3AM.

We got there in time to get to the rally and march, then we went to another church to meet up and came home. Traffic on the way out was HORRENDOUS- it was 3 hours before we even got out of DC.

As far as counter-protesters, I only saw one group, holding a big sign that said something along the lines of “You are not members of the Catholic Church- you are members of the Vatican 2 Heresy, and you’re all headed for hell.” My friend thinks they were just anti-Catholic, but I was struck with the impression that they were part of that one group that thinks the papacy has been vacant since before Vatican II. Anyway, Father Eric was leading us all in a rosary when we passed them(Sorrowful Mysteries), and those of us who actually had one in our hands held it up for the counter-protesters to see. Another group near us joined in, and then they started chanting the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and some of us who knew the chant joined in.

All in all, an AWESOME experience. Father Pat here in Athens said our Bishop(Diocese of Steubenville) was there, but he wasn’t announced with the rest of the bishops and archbishops, so I don’t know.
 
I picked up dd at 7:30 this am… when the bus got back… she loved it… she said a bunch of people took her pic when she got on her bf’s shoulders… so if anyone sees a pic of a girl on a boys shoulder… let me know OK?

That excites me sooooooo much. Your Bishop, Bishop R. Daniel Conlon, was my parish priest for the five years prior to becoming Bishop! He was indeed there, though we didn’t get to see him this year. Last year we ran into him. He’s a pretty awesome guy. (We’re praying that we get him back in a year or two as Archbishop of the Diocese of Cincinnati).

I was there, this year, too… I didn’t see protestors, though. Maybe I just missed it?

I did see some last year.

'twas nice to be able to feel my fingers and toes, and there were a LOT of people. We also had twelve hour bus trips (which are wonderful…ha). But, it was good. Hopefully Obama was listening to the speeches from somewhere and paying attention,…

The best anti-abortion sign towards him said: “Obama said he didn’t want to punish his daughters with a baby. Obama, were you punished by your daughters?”

What is Father Pat’s last name?
 
Watched some of the March on EWTN. At one point they had
a group from Ave Maria Law School and I was so impressed with
how they are teaching. So impressed that my matching gift with
my company will go to them this year. The students are taught
law with all their studies being faithful to the magisterium. They
will be our future politicians, etc.
I heard that a university had 700 students there. Would that be
Franciscan University? I missed it if they said.

EWTN did a great job as usual covering the march! It was wonderful hearing the speeches and seeing that the crowd was larger as we had hoped! It really lifted my spirits after the election results! 🙂
