Exodus 30:23
Saying: Take spices, of principal and chosen myrrh five hundred sicles, and of cinnamon half so much, that is, two hundred and fifty sicles, of calamus in like manner two hundred and fifty.
I don’t read Hebrew, but the word (קְנֵה בֹּשֶׂם) that is translated to calamus is said to be pronounced qěnēh bośem. Many linguists believe that qěnēh bośem is cannabis, which is native to the area, and was long used for both its fiber and for medicinal purposes.

This mixture was used as a holy anointing oil:
And therewith thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the testimony, and the ark of the testament, And the table with the vessels thereof, the candlestick and furniture thereof, the altars of incense, And of holocaust, and all the furniture that belongeth to the service of them. And thou shalt sanctify all, and they shall be most holy: he that shall touch them shall be sanctified. Thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons, and shalt sanctify them, that they may do the office of priesthood unto me.
And thou shalt say to the children of Israel: This oil of unction shall be holy unto me throughout your generations. The flesh of man shall not be anointed therewith, and you shall make none other of the same composition, because it is sanctified, and shall be holy unto you. What man soever shall compound such, and shall give thereof to a stranger, he shall be cut off from his people.
Exodus 30:26-33

Jesus said,
Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man: but what cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
All this talk about marijuana being a “gateway drug” is pure silliness. This is a desperate ploy to link Marijuana to other drugs because Marijuana use isn’t harmful to the body. The reason pot isn’t harmful is because the body has natural receptors for THC, the active ingredient. These are called cannabinoid receptors.

From Wikipedia:
These receptors are common in animals, and have been found in mammals, birds, fish, and reptiles. There are currently two known types of cannabinoid receptors, termed CB1 and CB2, with mounting evidence of more.
CB1 receptors are found primarily in the brain, specifically in the basal ganglia and in the limbic system, including the hippocampus. They are also found in the cerebellum and in both male and female reproductive systems. CB1 receptors are essentially absent in the medulla oblongata, the part of the brain stem that is responsible for respiratory and cardiovascular functions. Thus, there is not a risk of respiratory or cardiovascular failure as there is with many other drugs. CB1 receptors appear to be responsible for the euphoric and anticonvulsive effects of cannabis."
CB2 receptors are almost exclusively found in the immune system, with the greatest density in the spleen. While generally found only in the peripheral nervous system, a report does indicate that CB2 is expressed by a subpopulation of microglia in the human cerebellum. CB2 receptors appear to be responsible for the anti-inflammatory and possibly other therapeutic effects of cannabis.
Look at all the legally prescribed drugs that cause DEATH. The drug laws are created to make profits for the drug industry.

Alcohol is legal because the more you drink, the stupider you get. It kills brain cells. Drunk people don’t think deeply about things and aren’t as likely to question authority. But drunk driving kills thousands of people every year. The statistics on DUIs of people on marijuana are fake because they don’t tell you that people are high on pot AND drunk on alcohol. Pot doesn’t physically impair a person the way alcohol does.

When is the last time you saw a pot-head beat his wife? Drunks do that all the time. Drunks are much more likely to be violent than pot smokers.

It may be off topic to discuss the wars, but I think that point gets at the difference between alcohol and pot. People who drink alcohol can handle wars because they don’t have to think about them. People who smoke pot are more likely to think more deeply, and thus more likely to think that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are evil. Because they are evil. And really stupid. (Wars are created by bankers and fought by fools.)

(As long as I’m off topic, 9/11 was done by israel and by traitors within our own government. If anyone would like to debate that on another thread…)

(Also, I’m with Bishop Williamson on the issue of the “holocaust”. That is to say: there were no homicidal gas chambers used by Germany during WWII; and NOWHERE NEAR 6 million jews or other people died or were killed in the camps. People who get all hot and bothered about that subject most often have not read one book on the subject, but more often have WATCHED A MOVIE about it. You want to watch a movie? Look at: onethirdoftheholocaust.com/ The “holocaust” is a huge fraud, and the PHYSICAL EVIDENCE IS OVERWHELMING. People can’t debate rationally because they’ve been propagandized in school to get emotional 😦 and scared  when they discuss it. I’m going to look for a thread on that one.)

(You can’t get mad at me for getting off topic because I’m using parentheses! ;))

I’m getting so tired of hearing recycled garbage that passes for thought. People don’t think anymore. They repeat illogical arguments or propaganda. Gateway drug?!?!

We cut down trees to use for paper even though hemp makes better paper from a more quickly renewable resource. Why don’t we use hemp? Because it’s indistinguishable from cannabis! Oh no!

It’s illegal to grow pot, but you can go to a psychiatrist and get anti-anxiety drugs or anti-depressants. You want to see a long list? Look at this:
ssristories.com/index.php
It’s a list of shootings by people with prescriptions for anti-depressants. I think that site has a list of 3200 shootings. Somebody please show me the site linking shootings to pot use. Uh-huh… (By the way, whenever you hear about a shooting, the MSM will start talking about taking away people’s guns, but they never talk about the stupid anti-depressants.)

To summarize: 1) cannabis is in the bible; 2) cannabis is natural, and not harmful to the body; 3) other drugs are A LOT worse. (4. People repeat unprovable, illogical arguments when they discuss things that they really haven’t thought critically on the matter.)

Sure, people can smoke pot too much or too often. But I don’t think smoking pot, per se, is sinful.

I dissagree, & the only reason its illegal is its not packaged & sold like Cigarettes & the government doesnt get its cut, same as why prostitution is illegal. I think its much better than drinking & getting drunk. It helps people chill & people throughout all walks of society smoke it. There is a big big demand for it cause for all these many yrs, they cant stop the flow of it into our country
Prostitution is semi-legal in my country(brothel’s and professional escorts are legal), but it’s regulated and controlled.

I still don’t think this argument cuts mustard.

There is a lot more to take into consideration besides your country, this is a big big world with different scenarios all over this world. I think what I said cuts a lot of mustard

In my humble opinion, I have no problem with the legal regulation of marijuana. The drug wars have been a failure. Regulate and tax it like tobacco. I think it should be a moral issue not a legal one.

I have smoked weed a couple times, and all I would do was go in my room and listen to music (70s rock) it was quite an experience 😛

I do not support it but do it once in a while, but I dont want to do it if its a sin, but what exactly would make it a sin?

im a minor and its really easy to get liquor its 100 times easier to get marijuana
This is exactly why I am for its legalisation.

Marijuana is, beyond the shadow of a doubt, far better for you than alcohol. You can’t OD on it, and if you have too much, you just fall asleep. Alcohol OD will kill you.

Because of the way marijuana is currently treated, it makes it incredibly easy for minors to get their hands on it. When I was in high school, I could have got pot in a moment’s notice. And I was known (to the point of it being negative) as the naive little christian girl…even I knew how to get it in less than 24 hours. Alcohol was another story. If I wanted booze, it would have taken far more work and investigation to get it. Why? Because of the fact alcohol is legal over a certain age. Because companies can sell alcohol to make money, and the fact that it is a good source of profit, and the fact that the government takes every precaution that it not only is not sold to minors, but that people are not buying it FOR minors. Because alcohol is legal and brought out into the light, it’s easier to watch.

Another reason I am for legalization of pot only is because of loss of funding to the drug industry. Pot is probably one of the most widespread drugs. If the funding being tendered to drug cartels was being changed to given to the government, and that money was used for fighting the sale of truly terrible drugs. The damage to the drugs cartels will cripple them, and the boost to drug fighting would give the federal government the edge.

When it comes to the issue of sobriety, pot is like alcohol. It is not an “on and off” switch. There are varying levels of “stoned,” although you don’t see this as it is right now because of the cultivation of the marijuana plant. Naturally, the THC levels of this plant is low. However, because pot is illegal, it has been cultivated to be super concentrated so an extreme high can be obtained with as little of the plant as possible. This is purely speculation, but with legalization maybe the focus can be taken off getting totally blitzed and people enjoying the slight influence that THC can bring to relax the person. Much like a glass of wine can help a person relax. I really do feel that marijuana can be used in moderation much like alcohol. There is, of course, a possibility for abuse much like there is with alcohol, with one vital difference:

Marijuana is not physically addictive. Yes, one can become mentally dependant of the effects of a high, much like one can become mentally addicted to porn, tv, the internet, or masturbation. Legal substances, such as caffeine, sugar, nicotine, and alcohol are physically addictive. This is far more problematic than a mental addiction. When one is physically addicted to alcohol, the detoxification process can approach deadly complications. Blood sugar crashes, and the body begins to shut down. When one suffers a physical addiction to alcohol, detox can only be done under supervision of a medical professional. Marijuana is one of the few substances that alters a person’s sobriety but cannot cause a physical addiction. Let me reiterate that people can still become MENTALLY addicted, just as with anything else.

Multiple studies show that marijuana is far less harmful to the body’s systems than alcohol. For example, if you’ve experienced a hangover, you know what alcohol can do to you. There is no risk of any kind of hangover with marijuana. It simply does not damage your body the same way that alcohol does. It would seem, in fact, that the illegality of marijuana is far more dangerous to people’s lives than the actual use of it.

Lastly, there is the case of it being a “gateway drug.” I honestly believe this is because marijuana is the most likely illegal drug to be used. Why? Because it is common, pretty harmless, and the least enforced. However, once someone has dipped their toes into that realm, drug dealers will try to push the harder stuff because it’s more expensive, and physically addicting. This is why less scrupulous dealers will lace weed with other, hardcore drugs. It sells their bigger money makers.

That is also why I think eventually pot needs to be legalized. The benefits far outweigh the negatives. There can be more regulation on who sells it to whom, and ensuring that it is not laced with harmful and deadly drugs or chemicals. It can make access to it much harder for minors because you won’t have criminals passing it out at schools, rather, it would be sold and regulated by decent law-abiding citizens to adults. The money from taxation can be used for fighting harmful drugs, and supporting drug/alcohol recovery clinics.

Lastly, I think I need to state that I don’t approve its use for getting blitzed out of your mind. Legal or not. However, I do think it can be enjoyed by responsible people in moderation, much like alcohol is. I also think that legalization can carry a great many benefits than its criminalization.

Here is a good resource showing the damage of drugs on the body, versus their risk of dependancy. Have a look at where alcohol and tobacco are on here, then look at marijuana. It’s definatly food for thought!!! 🙂

Views on Marijuana and or the legalization of the drug… Give opinions please! Personally I see nothing wrong with it.
I disagree that there is nothing wrong with marijuana. It is not considered to be particularly healthy. The again I can say the same for butter, candy, red meat, mashed potatos and gravy and cheesecake.

Still I don’t want my government telling me I can’t consume those things. The US government tried to prohibit alcohol once and it didn’t work.

My advice is moderation in all (well most) things. Keep the government away from my personal choices unless it directly involves my (or any citizen’s) rights from being violated.

So thats the only thing that makes it a sin?
would it just be a venial sin then?
I believe that it’s defined as a grave sin. I don’t have the quote for that, but I remember reading that, someone can step in with the quote I’m sure.

The point is though, I personally think marijuana is far safer than alcohol for your body, and people can generally stay in better control of themselves when high than when drunk. However, as christians we are to exercise moderation and avoid letting a substance take control of us. But, it is illegal. A felony, in many cases, and we should respect the law of the land.

Were it legal though, I think at maximum it would be venial. Well, venial if you were getting intoxicated to the point of losing control of yourself. Small doses can have a similar effect as alcohol. THey relax the person and causes a general feeling of well-being without making you “high” shrugs

The legality of it doesn’t make a difference between veniel and grave.

Actually in this case I debate that. Simply because if it is legal, it is no different from buying alcohol. Whereas if you buy it off the black market you are supporting violence, murder, drug trafficking, and of course dealers don’t sell just marijuana, so you are giving money to people who are also probably selling things like coke, meth, and things like that which are really truly awful and terrible toxins. Then of course, there is the issue of knowingly breaking the law and committing a felony by purchasing it. We’re not talking a speeding ticket offense, we’re talking the kind of crime that takes away your right to vote.

Oh no, I don’t disagree with that. However the church doesn’t look at legality of it to determine if it’s use is moral or not, but the overall history of the drug. Meth is legal in some countries, but it is still sinful to use it. Why? Because, there is no moderation involved, it easily controls the mind, society couldn’t function if everyone was using it, ect… That’s what I’m referring to.

Now as far as MJ, there is much debate among the church whether the use of it okay. If you look at the overall history of MJ, it can be used in moderation with no sig side affects, also has medical benefits, societies where it is legal or tolerated can still function. Thus it appears the drug it’s self isn’t immoral to use. Granted the church states we should obey the law of the land, so if there is a sin, that might be it. Then of course, people who buy it while it is illegal can also be contributing to evil gangs, ect… as you pointed out.

All I was saying is that legality doesn’t make the substance it’s self immoral.
