A group of Protestant Christians is protesting the emblem of the European Union on automobile license plates because they say it symbolizes the veneration of the Blessed Mother, the British website Ekklesia reported.
The Dutch group, the National Foundation for the Preservation of the Political Reformed Principles, said the EU emblem—a circle of 12 golden stars on a blue background, gives undue emphasis to the Catholic significance of Mary.
In 1989, the Vatican newspaper L’osservatore Romano reported the emblem’s designer, Arsene Heitz, had described the source of his inspiration as a series of reported apparitions by the Virgin Mary in 19th century Paris. The date on which the Council of Europe adopted the flag, Dec. 8, 1955, coincided with the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Just leave well enough alone. Imagine, protesting the Mother of Christ.
