Actor Mark Wahlberg was in Chicago Friday and ready to talk, not about a new movie but religion.
He was a special guest of Cardinal Blase Cupich for a young adult faith night, called (re)Encounter, held at the UIC pavilion.

“The Archdiocese is embarking on a real strong effort to tap into the energy and the enthusiasm of young people to invigorate and enliven our church,” said Cardinal Cupich.

He has really rediscovered his faith again for his whole family. I think he will be a good role model and an inspiration.

I personally would not hold him up as a role model.
Yes, he has spoken openly about his faith since at least 2010, which is wonderful.

But our family just watched one of his movies (made after 2010) that was rated PG13.

There were crude and sexually suggestive parts, to the point that I thought it merited an R rating.

We all have our faults, but to present him as a role model (to me) would be wrong.

I certainly did not mention to my 15 year old that he was a Catholic after I scrambled to fast forward.
