I have to ask this question, after seeing the same tactic used many times by you: why do you resort to the false dilemma: “you either follow Scripture or the Catholic Church”? Are you accustomed to dealing with people who so easily give sway to your logical fallacies?

Every time a poster presents Scripture supporting Catholic beliefs, you reply that, in your opinion and interpretation, you disagree.

OK, you disagree. But your disagreement does not make your interpretation correct.

In fact, in every post in which you provide Scripture, you have yet to provide the reason your interpretation should be considered authoritative.
Of course my application and interpertations can be wrong, and are wrong sometimes. But Roman Catholics don’t even try to apply the Scriptures responsibilty when responding. Most don’t even attempt to answer with the Scriptures. That is an extremely low view of the Word of God.

Statements such as this discredit you already damaged credibility. If need be, I’ll provide the link to the threads in which your position is soundly rebuffed with ample Scripture…or, you can retract your statement.

You sure don’t like the Holy Scriptures, do you? 🤷
I love Scripture and have been a Bible study leader for over a decade.
Did you know that Jesus and the Apostles quoted the Scriptures (Old Testament) all the time. When Jesus was tempted by Satan, He responded with the Word of God (Old Testament).
God’s Word is contained in **both **Scripture and Holy Tradition. Christ also refers to the oral Torah, the oral Tradition. So does St. Paul.

You pit them against each other, yet they go together.

That’s pretty funny in light of the Catechism, which you can easily obtain and read.

Oh and the fact that the Catholic Church determined the canon of Scripture.

Okay… let go of all the bickering. Please post Scripture that supports marriage is a sacrament and that Catholic Christians and Protestant Christians cannot marry as one in Christ. If you can’t do it, don’t bicker back to me to avoid the issue.
.

This biblical command have a much broader application than marriage. However, it does apply to a Christian marriage.

2 Corinthians 6:14

Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?

… I believe that the man is the spiritual head of a family. Therefore, the man should determine how a Christian couple should worship God as a Christian couple accoding to his convictions supported in the Scriptures…
to answer the OP’s original query …

I’m happily married to a protestant, in fact, the daughter of a baptist preacher. “the man should determine” is an iffy phrase to use in a marriage on any issue and attempts to pull rank are a very bad idea.

the better way, for me at least, was to teach by example, be available and knowledgeable enough to answer questions. I spent a lot of time tooling around to protestant services (I never missed attending Mass) before she decided, without me “determining”, to start attending Mass with me. she’s about to start RCIA classes.

I was a Methodist when I married my wife, I converted to Catholicism just before the birth of our second daughter, our first daughter died after only 2 days. Fr. Diocetes was so helpful in our time of trouble that he started me on the road to conversion. At the time of our marriage, I had no trouble promissing to raise our children as Catholics even though I had no intention of converting at that time. It seems that ‘Reformed’ is just using this thread as an excuse to bash the Catholic Church.

The Bible is God-breathed. If the Catholic Church gave us the Bible, then the Holy Book is no longer God-breathed. I’m sadden that Catholics will submit to traditions of men over the Word of God. I have no idea how the Catholic position in regards to marriage between a Protestant and Catholic can be supported in the Holy Bible. We should all try to take an extremely high view of God’s Holy Word in belief and practice. There is simply two divisions in all of humanity. We have those who are united to Christ and those who are not. Those who know Christ and united to Him must marry a person from the opposite sex who also knows Christ and united to Him. 🙂
Do you believe that God just created the Bible in tact as it is? Study history, it was the Catholic church who decided what books went into the Bible and what did not. They were inspired by the Holy Spirit. For the first 400 years of Christianity there was no Bible and for 1500 years all Christians were Catholic or Orthodox.

Yes. The Catholic Church recognizes your marriage as valid and if both of you are baptized also as a Sacrament-- presuming neither you nor your wife are Catholics and neither you nor your wife were previously married and divorced.

The Catholic *form * requirement for marriage applies only to Catholics.
Thanks for your answer. Please help me understand why marriage is considered a sacrament. Biblical proofs are always welcome when sharing with Protetstant Christians. Otherwise, Protetstants tend to see beliefs without biblical support to be traditions of men.

My wife and I were never divorced from a previous marriage. It is interesting to study the Cathoic beliefs on divorce. Was divorce ever considered a mortal sin?

If. for instance, I present Gen 1:28; or Gen 2:24; or Jn 2:1-11; or Rev 19:7-9, as well as all the imagery of marriage in the Gospels, I do not believe that would satisfy you.
So tell me what evidence would satisfy you.
and that Catholic Christians and Protestant Christians cannot marry as one in Christ.
don’t know where you learned this, but you are mistaken.

I find this statement to be disingenuous, as you have not been able to provide Biblical support for your belief in the canon of the NT.

Wives and Husbands - Ephesians 5

22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.

25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. [1] 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Here is more scripture, and the parallel of Christ as bridegroom and the church being the bride. But how is marriage a sacrament? And, how is marriage between two Christians from different Christian communities prohibited by God?

We share the same NT canon. We all believe the Bible to be the Word of God being God-breathed. Catholics seem to be less interested in discussing the actual contents of the Scriptures and want to defend that the Catholic Church gave us the Bible position.

Please note how you did not provide that for which I asked; I placed it in bold so you would see it htis time.
And, how is marriage between two Christians from different Christian communities prohibited by God?
Is this what you believe? I had no idea you held to this belief. Why do you accept this?

Looking…searching…cross-referencing…nope, no Scriptural support for your belief in the canon. Surely, as you state that beliefs without SCriptural support are man-made traditions, you have a BIble verse or two that lists the books of the Bible…

Please Lance, do not confuse Reformed with the facts…
How can history accounts be facts? Only the Bible is God-breathed and not history accounts. Do you embrace history as infallible light as God’s revelation to mankind? I think you have confused biblical revelation with church history. I can present church history sources that are mutually exclusive from your church history accounts. Heck, the Church Fathers contradicted each other in personal beliefs.
