Hello everyone. I’m sure many of you have seen/read similar questions and I apologize for that.

I recently became engaged and I am Roman Catholic. My fiancee was baptized roman catholic, but her mother joined a different Christian denomination so she therefore was refused under a different denomination. I believe she may have been baptized again as a little girl. Though she was raised Christian, she currently does not follow a specific denomination. She has gone with me several times to catholic churches over the years, including the Vatican. So since she is not really tied to a denomination, she is open to marry at a catholic church because I would like to be married in a catholic church.

Now, from my understanding, since I am catholic, and she was baptized, we would be able to be married by a catholic priest in a catholic church if I seek permission, no?

Also, would we be able to be married in a local melkite catholic church, even hough Iam roman catholic and she is a baptized christian?

Any help, knowledge, or info is greatly appreciated. Thank you much!

If she was baptized in the Catholic Church, she is a Catholic. Yes, it is possible to marry in the Catholic Church. Make an appointment with your pastor to discuss premarital preparation and her current status of having been baptized Catholic and then taken out of the Church by her parents as a child.

Talk to your pastor, it would require his permission.

Make an appointment with your pastor.

Your fiancée is a catholic even though her mother left the Church. A marriage in the Church may not be an issue. Are you asking if you need permission for a mixed marriage? I don’t think that will be required because your fiancée is a catholic .

You need to speak to your pastor about this issue. You’ll need permission from your pastor(s) or bishop(s) to get married outside the Roman Church. Melkites are, of course, catholics but your pastor/bishop might want to know why you want to be married in a different Church.

If your fiancee was baptised a Catholic then she is a Catholic. As the others have suggested please talk to your priest. It does not sound like your fiancee has been confirmed which is required before marriage.
