CJ, thank you for pointing that out.

However, please realize that there is some measure of mutual consent going on. Having been in a marriage where I was constantly reminded that I had a Christian duty to perform, I will say that that sort of sexual contact is devastating. Yep, there may be temptation with waiting for a wife who is postpartum or whatever, but there are ways to overcome that and grow through it that do not require devaluing and dishonoring one’s spouse.

There has to be a happy medium somewhere.
True, but the biblical viewpoint that I pointed out was not even mentioned. All the advice given was in regards to as wounded wife who harbored an unChristian attitude towards children, and not the clear teaching of the apostles.

This is a feminized, emasculated, morally bankrupt generation. Eventually, the Mulsims will rule us, because they are closer to the first principles of monotheism than we are.

God, be glorified! Arise and show your truth!

Oh, my.

If you want to be Biblical, please keep in mind the context of the passage you quote. It was written when married people thought it was extra holy to be abstinent within the marriage.

We’re not talking about women who are trying to be hyper-spiritual, or who are depriving their husbands as a way of manipulating them. These are women who are hurting, and the whole sex issue is a symptom of something bigger.

It’s not an unChristian attitude toward children–it’s fear and exhaustion and depression.

What would be your solution? Just insisting that the wife make her body available for her husband’s use is worse than telling him to take care of it himself, imo.

What does our Spouse do when we are too tired or frightened or hurt to open ourselves to His penetrating Love? He waits and He woos gently, and He never ever forces Himself on us. Husbands are called to love their wives this way. Hard, hard, hard.

I don’t think there are any easy answers.

Evelyn,
if you are going to call for a medium, a compromise, a halfway point, then let’s avoid that extreme as well. Poor AKAJohn is not demanding what you posted above. His wife unilaterally nixed the sacramental exchange. He seems to have gone along with it (for the very reasons you listed, and that is to be commended) but he also seems to not know what St. Paul teaches about mutual consent, temptation, and continence.

I agree with your point that there should be a workable medium - but that requires balance between the clear teaching about mutuality and the spirit of charity.

Blessings,
CJ
