😊 Don’t do that, my wife my start suspecting something and I’m on a tight budget. Roses are expensive you know.:o
LOL! I don’t think that my snake-eating, “Soldier of Fortune”, reading over my shoulder husband would appreciate the roses…😉

Someone can tell me that I missed the boat on this one, but would not being able to have a family be one of the main reasons that men do not become priest? I think that the Catholic Church is missing out on many young men in their “prime of their life” because of this requirement. I think that it is wonderful that widowers are able to have the best of being a husband, father, grandfather and then being a priest. Too bad they have to wait for their spouse to die to follow their calling…😦

God Bless!
Lets clear up one thing here, there may be a shortage of priest here in the United States but it has nothing to do with a celibate priesthood. The Catholic church in America is growing wile our the number of deacons are shrinking. This leads to more work done by our parish priests. Our deacons are allowed to be married but that is were our biggest decline is. In the Catholic church and in the Orthodox church you cannot marry once you are a priest. In the orthodox church only celibate priest may become bishops, now why is that? You also have to figure in that there are 50x more members in the Catholic church than in the Orthodox church, in America.

“SOLDIER OF FORTUNE!!!” I thought my dad was dead.

True story…most young boys growing up played catch with their fathers. My dad taught me how to throw knifes and kill people. He was a Commando…really sick guy. But he sure came in handy when his ex-Seal friend came at me one day…right before I joined the military… Everywhere my men go they still hear my name… Sergeant…blahblah. They freaked one day when shopping at a mall and the lady working their asked if Sergeant blahblah [me] was their. They freaked and asked her not to tell me where they were… You’ve probably heard the drill. Fortunately, my Army days are over now. I was considering becoming a military Chaplain back then and while playing Fundamental Evangelical I considered it again. God did’t will it for me for some reason though. So thankfully God’s plan worked and now I’m Catholic again… it was like a dream.

I can tell you’re a military wife though. You guys [gals that is] have a way of twisting words. My wife is very good at it too. We have lots of fun with it. Lot’s of Catholics don’t seem to get it…evangelicals too for that matter.😉

Same here. I asked about becoming a deacon several years ago with an anti-Catholic wife. Funny isn’t it.😊
So because your wife at the time was anti-Catholic you were prevented from becoming a Deacon?
Now my wife is very Catholic. God works in mysterious ways. It seems that this trend is opening up doors, but only time will tell.
Awesome and yeah, time will tell indeed. 🙂

I think she knows this now guys. I think I’ve seen it repeated in all but chocolate now.😉

Liturgical Chaplins are very much needed in the military right now. I can’t recall his name, but there was a wonderful Catholic Priest from Chicago with the 3rd ID in Ramadi that was fantastic with the troops. He was very much a blessing to them but he was always on a helicopter visiting other troops around the area. The small numbers of Catholic Priests really puts a strain on them. My evangelical girlfriend whose husband was with the priest always kept this man in her prayers.

I would send you the link to the Soldier of Fortune Article, but then I would have to…😉

Go Navy! Beat Army!👍

I say good. We’re better off without him. Let the Catholics have him.
That’s not very charitable Jonathan. There’s something about history that is converting folks…preachers, deacons, priests and bishops form other faiths. There is far too muc anti-Catholicism going on in ignorance of what the Catholic Churc really is historically.

I’ll have to turn you over to emeraldcoast now.

Go Army…beat Navy…I wish. Navy seems to always win…that’s because of those darned Marines I guess. However, we used to put those guys in the hospital all the time when they insulted us. Field Artillery is not for whoosies. There’s a reason they call us knuckle draggers.

Sorry you feel that way. I believe that’s a Bibical attitude. In the Bible, when somebody turns from the faith and walks away, there don’t seem to be all that many tears shed.

If this man truly believes what he says, then I’m glad he’s no longer a Baptist. That will mean one less heretic in a Baptist pulpit.

That’s like K-Mart accusing Neiman-Marcus of selling shoddy merchandise.

Oops! Your blessings theology is showing through…😉 Might want to leave the K-Mart - Neiman-Marcus comment out. That smells of matericalism verses spirituality. Something I was used to in my Baptist church years ago. Huh…I always laugh at you guys for thinking somehow we don’t know anything about the bible. Well, guess what’s happening to those Catholics that convert to Baptist…they are returning home now in hords. It’s the latest trend.

No need for the snooty stuff. But it sounds like you have more of an agenda here than a purpose by the way you’re addressing things with such animosity. I practice a true bible only faith, unlike Baptists. We patterned our beleifs straight out of the bible and were smart enough to realize that baptism is not an option but required for salvation. We also rejected divorce and remarriage teaching them both to be sinful. We alos used to debate everyone until they just hated us more or converted. If you really study your bible you will find the Catholic theology stairing you in the face. It’s pride that leads us not to see the truth. I’ve seen this stuff from a Catholic, Baptist and Church of Christ perspective now and realized the truth in the Catholic Church’s teachings. I’d add the Orhtodox to that place but that would be a stretch since I’m still learning but expect that to be a life-time because it too has valid apostolic succession.

We used to do circles around Baptists. Bruce Sullivan was a Baptist that converted to the Church of Christ as a Minister…now…he’s Catholic.

Yea, but a Catholic Priest becoming an Episcopal priest is not the same, it only shows that he is in dissent and probably seriously in trouble with God. If he says a mass, then the Eucharist in his church would be valid, but illicit. I’m talking Chruch teaching here, not trying to offend…It is a Catholic website. But Baptists are typically fundamentalist/evangelists. That’s what’s so unusual about it. This is a very big step or sidestep depending on how you look at it I guess. If a Catholic priest became a Baptist their would be no opportunity to perform the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Episcopals have liturgical worship resembling a Catholic mass.

Same here. I asked about becoming a deacon several years ago with an anti-Catholic wife. Funny isn’t it.😊 I knew that it wasn’t likely but it was a fair question. Now my wife is very Catholic. God works in mysterious ways. It seems that this trend is opening up doors, but only time will tell.
There was a post the other day in this forum, I can’t seem to find it, about the role of the husband in the family as the spirtual leader. Vocatio, I think that you give a pretty good example of how this works in real life. I will be very surprised if his wife remains Baptist. I am looking forward to the update!!

God Bless!

Okay guys this may shock you. But…
All men are called to be spiritual fathers. All women are called to be spiritual mothers as well. That is what I read, heard and practice. Now we should keep in mind that all of us fail miserably at it because of sin. But we must keep trying.

I believe that in time, it is possible for this man’s wife to convert. Several things are dependent on her conversion though and it should not be expected. But look at the famous Catholic converts. Their wives, if married converted several years after their conversion. I can think of 2 off the top of my head… Scott Hahn and Bruce Sullivan. Bruce discerned but felt that for his families sake he needed to put it off until later. He’s a great guy. He’s just like my brother-in-laws - a real joker. He pulled a good one on me just over a year ago while I was driving down the highway. I returned a mysterious call and he answered Catholic Answers can I take your question…? Needless to say I was very confused for a minute and then it dawned on me who it was. I couldn’t help but notice the Kentucky mans accent. Father Benjamine on the other hand remained single to become a celibate priest. He too is a very nice man. I enjoyed our conversation regarding our previous common faith. Can’t deny it Bruce, your accent is pretty thick. But my Texas draw is no better. Of course my wife still denies her Okie accent. Ever heard an Okie speak Spanish?

Anyway, my point in bringing these men up is that they were/are very pastoral. This is because Bruce was a minister in the same faith we came from and Fr. Benjamine could just relate to where we came from and is a minister/pastor now. Both gave great advice and helped me understand and/or accept some really difficult things to swallow…by pure obedience, even if it confused or angered me. Brother Bruce would make a good priest as well.

*KEVIN??!! *

:hug1: :hug1: :hug1:

Nope, not Kevin. I believe Bruce knows my user name on here, but not sure. He does know me from a support group board for members from our previous faith that converted to Catholicism though. Don’t try that though. It’s far to stressful knowing someone from our family might discover that we’re Catholic and then drive us crazy and then cut us off completely. It happens all the time. That’s why its a support group board. I’m preparing for the day it happens. My wife just isn’t ready to tell her mom.

Dang. Well, send Kevin my regards. 🙂
