I am happy that he has become a priest. I have to say, there is a long process of acceptance from the Vatican. Interviews, etc. before the ok for him to be ordained comes through.

This shows most of the Protestant groups that there are married priests. I am Catholic, and when I hear Protestants gripe about the celibacy issue, I tell them that there are married priests and the process is long before ordination. They are shocked.

I live in Portland Oregon Diocese, and we have a married priest serving, he is a former Episcopal priest. I welcome them.

As for the deacons. Who knows, maybe someday they can be ordained too.🙂

Well. on second thought, that might be a bit over the top but what about the married deacons who would otherwise have chosen priesthood had it been allowed? I know most deacons say they don’t want to be priests but that isn’t true in all cases. Is it fair to them? How can a man who spent all his prior life denying the true religion suddenly be more worthy of Catholic priesthood than a deacon who spent his whole life extolling the true religion?
I don’t think anyone claims they are more worthy. These are exceptions and handled as such. These one-time actions are necessary (IMHO) to work toward unity.

I didn’t know of a former Episcopalian in Portland, but there was a former Presbyterian at St Agatha. I just did a google to see if he is still there, but he just recently passed away. 😦 Please pray for his soul, his family and his parish. He was an excellent priest and a really nice guy.
