Hi,
I originally posted this on another forum, but have not received much of a response so I thought I would try it here.

I met a guy on an online dating website. I found out he was married and still living with his wife and kids. He said he was going to get a divorce, but I reported him to the website. He was dropped from that website.

I was looking at catholicmatch.com and saw his picture there. He stated he was divorced. Even if he filed for divorce when I reported him on the other website (three weeks ago), he still would not have had enough time for a divorce to have taken place.

Do I have a duty or obligation to report him to catholicmatch? Can I just pretend I didn’t see it? Would I in any way be complicit in his adulterous pursuits?

If he gets the heave ho from catholicmatch he will just go to another website.

What do you think?

I would email catholicmatch and tell them what you just told us. That 3 weeks earlier this had happened on another site. If he goes to another site, that is not your responsibility. The goal is to get him off good sites where Catholics are trying to find legitimate, honest Catholics to get married to. Please report him–I met my husband online (Ave Maria Singles) and the more we can do to get dishonest people off the legitimate sites, the better. 👍

I think you should report him. I hate it when married men do this. They play the “I’m getting divorced soon” little game only to have poor girls fall for them and in the end they never do. Imagine the poor wife! As generosity for this woman, report this man! And you will also be saving other women from such heartache.

And if he goes to a different site, there’s nothing you can do about it, but you can do something about the one you know about.

I agree with others…report him.

There are some men/women who will only leave his/her spouse when they have found another person to be with–which sounds like this man’s situation. Whatever his reasons–if you have located him yet again, you would be doing lots of unsuspecting members of that site a favor …by reporting him, and having his membership revoked.

Have you thought of detective work? You are good!!🙂

as a woman who found out that her husband was married to someone else… after 12 yrs of marriage :bigyikes::bigyikes: even though I didn’t meet him on a website… Report him! Had people told me my ex was married when I was dating him, it would have turned out completely different.

I think you should report him as well! I don’t think it’s fair for people to do such things fooling the person they are with and the new person they are trying to meet!!! Not right…

As the wife of such a man I beg you to please report him. I am currently separated from my husband for exactly that. He keeps having (horribly inmoral) correspondence on line, and pretends he is single or divorced. I would not wish it on any person to fall in the snares of such a liar and be dragged into the sin of adultry with him:sad_bye:

You can’t control him just going to another site but I still say report him. If you have knowledge that could save someone else emotional pain or betrayal I would use it to protect them. Maybe if he gets kicked off enough sites it’ll knock some sense into him. Probably not buts it’s worth a try anyway.

Yeah, report him. CM might not do anything since your encounter was from another site.

There are quite a few guys like that on the Catholic sites. I don’t know why they go on *Catholic *singles sites…

I met two guys who misrepresented their status. Both said they were annulled - I would only meet someone who was free to marry in the Church - and one of them was still going through the divorce and the other was only divorced. Both felt confident that they could have an annulment, but I still felt irritated that they mislead me. One of them was very likely right - it was a shotgun wedding when they were both very young - but his attitude was “if I meet someone worth the bother, I’ll start the process.” I was very annoyed by that.
