Married Southern Baptist Pastor to become a Priest

Check out this weeks JOURNEY HOME program by Marcus Grodi. Guest is Michael Cumbie, became a Catholic 10 years ago … now headed for Priesthood Training.

Very funny … and informative. You Protestants … don’t miss it 😃
 
Michael Cumbie is more than simply a former Baptist pastor. He was ordained in the Charismatic Episcopal Church after leaving the Baptist church. The CEC derives its Orders from a schismatic Catholic Bishop in Brazil. So, he may already have valid Holy Orders from his time in that church.

You all can have him…LOL!! He said it himself he wanted to know the truth and all the time holding a Bible in his hand…says it all; nothing else can be added!! I have a feeling an annulment maybe forthcoming.
 
I have his DVD, “Explaination of the Mass from a Convert’s point of view”, and it is great.

He appears to be a very faith filled man, and quite a dynamic speaker.

Any diocese would be blessed to have him.
 
Just watched the program. If any missed it tonight I believe it is on Tuesday at 9:00 AM and thursday at 1 or 2 PM. There may also be a latenight/overnight airing during the week as well.
It was a good program. Lots of fun. Get him and Fr Corapu together and the building would probably blow up - certainly there would be a sound like the wind at Pentacost!!😃

He is going into seminary, but he is doing so on his own without an episcopal sponsorship which means he has not been sponsored by a bishop yet.
If he is not “picked up” by a Bishop, it appears he would not be able to be ordained.

So I’d say - Bless his heart and blessings on him and his family but he is still a ways away from becoming a priest. Of course if he does not, there is still the permenant deaconate.

His DVD on the Mass is hysterical.

Nope! We do not want him,God does…😉 By the way, God is not confined to book.Beth you seem to worship a book,than God. Go ahead place your faith in the Bible,I put my in God! An annulment? LOL Goes to show how much you do not know anything about Catholicism.
 
Our parish pastor must be having heartburn if he’s heard this.

Anyway, why would any Catholic want a married priest? One of my close friends said, they would understand families better and give better advice. My comment, I know a whole lot of men (and women if it was applicable) that I wouldn’t want giving me advice on anything.

I agree to an extent with you. Simply because someone is married does not mean he or she is capable of giving better advice. Sometimes a married person can ge giving advice to other couples,when he or she has scores of martial problems. Eastern rites have married priests,but that is not a negative either.

I am firm believer single and celibate men are married to the bride of Christ and focus their entire ministry on His church and his sheep,minus the marital issues.

I looked them up. He may in fact already be a priest. That’s interesting.

Because he is properly trained, and duly accepted (ordained) into the priesthood by the valid laws, including any dispensations, governing such ordination by the Church, established by Christ, to which Catholics belong.

In other words, any faithful catholic should welcome him and treat just as one would any other priest.

Stormy - are you aware that there are already a number of married RCC priests functioning in parish ministry?
Their may be more coming as the Anglican and Episcopal communities and clergy consider the move into commuion with Rome.

Good point.

In fact, I know of at least one married priest in our diocese. He was an Episcopal priest prior to converting.

Once he converted, he was the head of Catechetics for our diocese. In fact, he has been featured on “The Journey Home”. His name is Fr. Doug Grandon.

His wife is also a special blessing, as she gives talks/workshops, etc. She is the director of the diocesan Office of Respect Life and Human Dignity.

She has spoken to our RCIA classes on several occasions, and has done an outstanding job.
 
Well, I watched the show. (Boy I love my DVR)

He is a real joy. He will be a blessing to any diocese that gets him.
 
He spoke at our Church about a year and a half ago and was an inspiration.

Blessings and best wishes to Mr Cumbie. Does anyone else in the Diocese of Charleston want to help me lobby for him?

Are you suggesting that the Bible doesn’t support Catholic beliefs on scripture ?

As a former Anglican, he can join the ordinariate. I know the ordinary of the ordinariate would quickly take him. That is why I called him and explained the ordinariate to him.😃
He was very interested and excited about it.

Unfortunately too many Anglicans and Catholics are ignorant of the Anglican Constitution.
Well, I use to be a baptist preacher a long time ago. Where is my soap box…now find a sign and a street corner!!😛

Paul was celibate (so is John)
Peter i think is the only one that has recorded evidence who was married
but many priests, bishops, even popes were married for a couple hundred of years. i forgot the exact year when the discipline was placed. also, only the Western (Roman/Latin) Church imposes such discipline on its priests
