- Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have be thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they get home and the prospect of a good meal is part of the warm welcome needed. If you have the luxury of cooking all day. Yes, women show love by feeding their families. Agreed.
- Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you’ll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people. Unless the kids spilled paint all over the floor you’re supposed to have spotless when His Majesty comes through the front door. Then not so much time for the makeup and fresh look. Aren’t you glad you haven’t been hanging around work weary people all day? Eating bon bons and watching tv keeps you young and fresh looking.
- Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it. Because your day sorting socks was a riot of fun! And going to the mechanic and having the oil changed on the car was interesting. And standing in line at the bank was an unmitigated bliss. All so he doesn’t have to do it on his day off. What? You don’t get a day off? You mean you have to work weekends while he’s on the sofa watching NASCAR? Go fix dinner and stop complaining!
- Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives. Run a dustcloth over the tables. That table better be neat because where else is he going to throw his keys and wallet and paw through the mail and leave it for you to clean up. Oh… and pick up those toys from the kids. It’s your job, you know.
- During the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering to his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction. That little voice inside your head that says "What about me? Why doesn’t anyone care if I have rest or order… drown it. Your job is to see to his satisfaction.
- Minimize all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer or vacuum. Encourage the children to be quiet. Blaring tv, fighting kids, noisy toys… It is your job to listen to all that garbage all day. 10 hours of screaming kids, crying babies and vacuum cleaners… daddy deserves peace. Not you. Stop whining. Lazy wench. You sit around all day doing nothing. Make the kids quiet for daddy.
- Be happy to see him. Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him. Okay. I’ll bite. As long as he’s not thinking about his secretary at work. That puts a damper on things.
- Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. He can find out about the stitches junior got when he’s had a chance to unwind. You mean you need to unwind? Shut up, lazy woman!
- Let him talk first - remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours. Hahaha. You’re just a girl. Nothing you say is really important.
- Don’t greet him with complaints and problems. It’s your job to be the shock absorber of his life. Deal with it.
- Don’t complain if he’s late for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through at work. But wait… didn’t you spend all last night planning that gourmet dinner he was supposed to eat? Now what do you do with it? He hates leftovers. I personally tried that ignoring him staying out all night, but it still made me cry. I was a bad wife.
- Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or lie him down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him. Get to work Geisha girl!
- Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice. Just like his mommy.
- Don’t ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. And when his girlfriend calls your house, don’t bring it up. It will spoil his comfy pillow and drink. I honestly tried this for years, not questioning his judgment and integrity. Don’t try this at home! Leave it to professionals!
- Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him. If you mouth off, the master of the house has the right to hit you against a wall. So shut yer yap. He’s ALWAYS fair! Yep!
- A good wife always knows her place. Five steps behind her man, picking up after him all the way.
