Has Martin Luther King, Jr been officially declared a 20th century American martyr?

If he has I have never heard about it. Even though he did great things to help the afro-americans I can not imagine it happening either.:nope:

He did much more than help African-Americans… he helped liberate this country from the shackles of bigotry and ignorance. He was an amazing and courageous person, who helped shape the course of this nation.

The main Lutheran Church body (ELCA) in the U.S. recognizes him as martyr. But I am afraid his sexual escapades will prevent the Catholic Church for honoring him - which it hadn’t, as of Nov. 2004.

Martin Luther King Jr. spearheaded a movement that did an awful lot of good. Unfortunately, toward the end of his life he began to lean to the far Left on some issues, but that doesn’t change the good he accomplished.

Still, Sainthood requires more than bringing an end to desegregation and legalized bigotry. It also requires a “heroic” degree of personal sanctity, which I don’t think that Dr. King would claim for himself if he were still living.

The Catholic church does hold an annual mass in his honor in most dioceses.
