Great! What’s the jist (or is it gist) of the last sermon or teaching that you heard about Mary?
Why does there have to be a last sermon about her for me to believe she was Blessed?

Dear Singing beauty,

I did after all put “worshippers” in quotes.

But, why did Elizabeth bless Mary first and Jesus second?

No… You are twisting my words. Stop doing that please. 🙂

Yes she is mother to Jesus’ humaness but she was chosen to be the womb who brought forth God in human form. It’s not an either or but both. She gave Jesus His DNA but not the divinity…
She bore and brought forth God in human form, thereby being his mother, but you don’t call her Mother of God? I don’t need to twist your words - you’re doing a great job of being totally inconsistent on your own.

Mother of God doesn’t mean she CREATED his divinity, any more than your mother created your soul, but you don’t call her the mother of half of you - so Mary is still Jesus mother and Jesus is God.

As for Luke 1:48–“all generations will count me blessed”–for some reason it isn’t read in Baptist churches, not even at Christmas. I don’t think there is a conscious effort to avoid reading it, but it just isn’t regarded as particularly important.

Thank you for your candor but I disagree. I understand where you are coming from… see my original post. I think there may very well be a conscious effort to minimize Mary. Perhaps simply because it’s too “Catholic” a thing to do.

That is what you see… I see a distinction. Mother of Jesus I can accept because that is God’s human form… but Mother of God means something COMPLETELY different to me…

Who knows? Am I Elizabeth? 😉

Maybe because Mary was right in front of her or maybe she was like the woman who told Jesus “Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breast that fed you” and Jesus came back with “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and follow it” 🙂

Perhaps it is an INDIVIDUAL effort but I can tell you that this protestant doesn’t want to lessen the role that Mary played I just don’t want to over do it…

:banghead: Jesus is GOD MADE FLESH, not God taking on human form. Big difference. You appear to think that he merely slipped on a suit of human skin for a little while like you’d slip on a ballgown, and then took it off again. You couldn’t be more wrong. He couldn’t have saved humankind if that was all he’d done. Because he wouldn’t have BEEN human, he’d have been God wrapped in a human skin. He wouldn’t have been able to take our sins upon himself and redeem them by his death unless he’d truly become man.

The truth is that Jesus knew from all eternity, being omniscient, that his destiny was to BECOME TRUE MAN. And being outside of time he in a very real sense always was and always will be true man. THAT is how he is able to save us - he is and always has been TRUE MAN and TRUE GOD, inseparably united. To say otherwise is heretical and nonsensical.

And as I said, mother of God doesn’t mean Mary created Jesus’ divinity, give us credit for some brains. Any more than calling your mother your mother, instead of the Mother of your body, means that she created your soul.

Singing beauty,

I found a post that is from a Methodist that sums up quite a bit. Very nicely in fact.

Would you care to address it?Choose one scenario:
A. Mary was Jesus’ mother.
B. Jesus was God.
C. Therefore, Mary was the mother of God.
OR:
A.Mary was the mother of Jesus.
B. But, Mary was not the mother of God.
C. Therefore, Jesus was not God.
D. If Jesus was not God, He was not sinless.
E. If Jesus was not sinless, He was no different from the rest of us.
F. Therefore, there is no sacrifice for sin…and, we are all going to hell.

Let me think, let me think… Which is better??? Which is worse?? What shall I choose?? What shall I choose???

Hey, you guys will have to argue this one out for yourselves… “But as for me & my house, I will serve the Lord”, and…Mary is the mother of God!!

The poster’s name is Zooey. And, I was struck by this post.

Protestant always talk about how much they Love Jesus, but never any love for Mother Mary, maybe because the Devil know
how Powerful her Intercession is, and he is is causeing error
in peoples Theology.

Again, research the Nestorian heresy. You’re not espousing anything original here. Your position is hundreds of years old. And was rejected by the Church hundreds of years ago.

It sounds good but while I am not convinced…

LilyM,

I am not sure why you get so frustrated with how I believe… *sigh… 🤷

I guess I am not explaining myself well or something because I am just frustrating the heck out of you… chill out there my friend. I have not attacked you in anyway… Just stating what I believe. Either take that and let it go as something I believe or get your blood pressure to rise over something you have absolutely no control over… Your choice… It seems in a few threads now you have gotten very frustrated with me…

I was unaware that I was trying to say something that was original… I really do not come to these forums to say something thinking no one has ever thought of it before…

How is your research going on the Nestorian Heresy?
It sounds good but while I am not convinced…

Because your beliefs are both wrong and heretical. I think you’d get upset if I came out and said ‘you know what, I DO worship Mary, I DO think she’s divine and a Goddess so nyer nyer boo ya to you’

That’s right… because I am protestant I hate Mary and am so dumb that I let Satan run my thoughts and beliefs… *sigh…

Sorry for the rant but I am SO tired of being told that what I believe is of Satan and not of God…

For about the fifth time - read up on the Nestorian heresy, then you’ll be able to judge where we’re coming from and why we’re sounding so harsh.

I am not sure but… um yeah… No I am pretty sure I never said ‘nyer nyer boo ya to you’ in any of my posts…

You know, I am not an idiot. I am not dumb. I am not slow. Much to you disbelief as evident in the post I quoted. I have thought and prayed over what I believe and am very open for God to show me my errors. It has even happened on this board a couple of times. Have I ONCE called your beliefs wrong or heretical? No, I try to keep charity in my posts and know that what someone believes usually is not something they came to believe lightly.

*sigh… Sorry for derailing the thread!

Back to the topic… You have anything more to say tell it to my PM please…

Why not ‘Blessed Virgin’ - don’t we still call Clinton and Bush Senior ‘Mr President’ even though they no longer hold that office?
Just a:) note to an Australian sister: We’re not supposed to do that!! It is totally incorrect. I know, people do it all the time, but it’s wrong, & therefore not the best example. There is, & can be, only one President at a time, & only the President in office is to be called “Mr President”.
It’s be kind of like somebody insisting on calling an antipope “Your Holiness”. Its a singular title, & belongs to no one except, at present, George Bush (the younger). God help us!!
Also, and I hope I can put this in the words that I intend for it to be, Mary is the mother of Jesus’ HUMANESS not His divinity. That is why I don’t consider her the ‘Mother of God’. While Jesus is both fully God and fully human He did exist before Mary was a twinkle in the line of David. So I believe that she is the mother of His human form but nothing more.
Nestorius…
Hmm… yes. The Nestorian heresy. What’s old is new again…
You know… I don’t know anything about this Nestorian Heresy… I guess I should look this up since you mention it…
SB, I love you as a sister in Christ, but please look up & read about the Nestorian heresy. It is very much:( alive &😦 well, which is a shame, because it is a heresy: It  reduces Christ’s status to something closer to a:eek: Greek demigod, than the King of kings.
And that just won’t do…We could argue forever about titles for Mary, but this is really not about Mary at all, except tangentially. It’s about the Person & Nature of Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Trinity, vs a false image of Jesus, like the one that has given birth to the likes of Islam, Mormons, & Jehovah Witnesses…

Thanx Zooey and I will look it up… I didn’t mean to make people so angry… Sheesh… I am in NO WAY trying to diminish Jesus and maybe I am explaining it in a way that people are not getting what I am saying. But I guess instead of trying to understand and see where I am coming from I am just viewed as an idiot that doesn’t know my own beliefs…
