I guess we are not allowed to question the MSM according to Mapes:
Mary Mapes Blames ‘Vicious’ Bloggers

Fired CBS “60 Minutes” producer Mary Mapes is still blaming the internet for ending her media career prematurely - or more precisely; the “vicious” bloggers who discovered that documents she unearthed in a bid to trash President Bush’s National Guard service were forgeries.

“The criticism that was launched at us initially really came from the very conservative blogosphere, folks who are on these very conservative web sites,” Mapes complained Friday on WVMT Vermont’s “Charlie & Ernie” radio show.

Full Story
I still cannot believe she is in denial about the documents being forgeries.

Mapes says that she was a victim of a new standard in journalism where “the truth doesn’t matter” but instead it’s “the perception of truth that matters.”

Let’s see, does that make her the pot, or does that make her the kettle!

Does anyone ever just ask her, “But, but, Mary, you see… the documents… were forgeries!!!”

**Journalists have brought this upon themselves. They are so preoccupied with getting out the story first, the “facts” get lost along the way. Also, the sensationalism of the media pulls them away from in-depth reporting, that would prevent them from embarassing themselves when they find their stories aren’t true.

I always thought, “Who, What, Where, When and Why”, along with being objective were the fundamentals of being a journalist. But now, these people are “newsmakers”. So sad. And they wonder why people are always questioning their accuracy and objectivity.

I have always known not to totally trust the news/media about what they present to us, but now I have to do my own research in order to come to the truth of a matter? What do we need them for then?**

The documents were forgeries, sure, but they were “fake but accurate.” Therefore, they fit in quite well with the current, dominant journalistic paradigm.

I think it goes beyond that. It seems that they now report rumor as fact just so they can further their agenda. They need to be called on this and, if needed, sued or prosecuted.

The mainstream media was never held accountable for shading and spinning and half-researched stories, until now. Gotta love the internet.

Poor Mary. I guess she has to have some conservative to make a villain when she’s trying to sell her book… the only way she can make a living now. I wonder, does anyone tell her, “Mary, just move on with your life? The election is over!” The story was nothing to begin with. By the way, the people she’s not even blaming the right people… Free Republic isn’t even a blog, it’s a forum. One of the people there happened to catch it.
