Linkowski why don’t you go ahead and deal with posts #11, #14, #20

So when I see a prayer card to Mary asking her to “ANSWER ME” - I shouldn’t be concerned that I am praying to her but through her???

You are praying TO her!

Praying to a person doesn’t imply anything about their divinity.
In its fundamental form, its conversation with another person.

When you see a prayer card asking that your fellow Christians pray for you, are you concerned that you are not praying to God but instead to your fellow Christians?

“O’ Virgin, most holy, none abounds in the knowledge of God except through thee; none O’ Mother of God, obtains salvation except through thee, none receives a gift from the throne of mercy except through thee”
  • Adiutricem Populi, Pope Leo VIII
I wish to heartily endorse what my learned colleagues have already stated, in that it was through Mary that Christ came into the world. None of us alive today has knowledge of God, his wisdom, salvation or anything else except through Christ, or so all sincere Christians believe, yes?

Without Mary there would have been no Christ from whom to obtain them. Therefore the prayer is quite correct, all these things also, indirectly, flow through her to us.

I might also add that a typical objection from those who don’t like our Catholic notions of prayer to the saints, is that such prayer somehow detracts from or diminishes from God’s glory or Christ’s mediatorship. Which isn’t true, any more than admiring an artist’s work diminishes from the honour we pay that artist or our humble acknowledgement of the marvels that that artist has wrought. Now who, wanting a favour from an artist, wouldn’t try to get into the artist’s good graces by praising his work as well as himself??

If you want a favour from any man who is also a father, would you not praise his children as well as himself? If they were of sufficient age and capability to ask for favours on your behalf, wouldn’t you ask them to do so? And if you obtained such favours FROM the artist THROUGH his children’s agency, would you not acknowledge BOTH the one who granted the favour AND the children who helped obtain it for you?

Indeed LilyM.

I always am in awe when Mary, through the Spirit, said,
My soul magnifies the Lord
HOW CAN WE MAGNIFY THE INFINITE? Ponder this for a while and you may just grow a love for Mary, and perhaps a devotion.

No where is scripture are we commanded TO ASK THEM TO PRAY FOR US. Please show me that.
Link, I don’t understand how you feel that is even remotely applicable. Nowhere in the bible does it say that you have to do only what is in the bible.

I think you need to establish that premise before you can demand that I show you where in the bible it’s at.

Amen!

Because she had Jesus who personifcates all that the Pope said about her. Btw the throne of mercy is Jesus Christ’s, and Mary is the Mother of Mercy.

By being His mother. 👍

Great response.

"By asking Mary to pray for us, we acknowledge ourselves to be poor sinners and we address ourselves to the “Mother of Mercy," the All-Holy One. We give ourselves over to her now, in the Today of our lives. And our trust broadens further, already at the present moment, to surrender “the hour of our death” wholly to HER CARE. May she be there as she was at her son’s death on the cross. May she welcome us as our mother at the hour of our passing to lead us to her son, Jesus, in paradise.”
  • CCC, 2677
I will rest on the Trinity…not in Mary at the hour of my death. This is blasphemous to me.

If Mary is good enough for Jesus, she is good enough for me. She was at the last hour of Christ and you better pray that she is there for you.

And Jews and Muslims would tell us all that believing in the Trinity, or for that matter that Christ is God incarnate, is blasphemous to them. Big whoopdees.

I would trust myself to Mary who knew Christ better and more intimately than any other human being, to whom he trusted himself totally as a baby, and who has already followed him into glory, any day, before attempting to rely solely to my own feeble devices for sure.

Not at all. Mary is without sin, she is the one who said “yes” - she became the God-bearer, the Ark of the New Covenant by carrying the very Word of God in her body for nine months; she was the first to look upon the very face of God when He emerged from her womb at the end of the nine months - she raised him up, fed him, clothed him, protected him from Herod and all his enemies by taking him away to Egypt, and then brought him back to Nazareth to educate him and give him a trade.

Think of it this way: when we go to Heaven, we become greater than we are now. If not, then it isn’t Heaven, but something else. If we become powerless, mute, blind, and lame when we go to Heaven, then of what benefit is it to us? We had rather gone to Hell, where at least we would be able to shriek in agony.

If Mary went to Heaven, then she is greater now than she was while on the earth. This means that she can intercede with Christ even more powerfully than she did at Cana.

She can show us Christ even more powerfully now than she did for Anna and Simeon while upon the earth.

I have to go, I will return later.

I hope Mary is there at the last hour of my death as she was at Jesus’. She was His mother, afterall, and therefore, the mother of all Christians.

Did Jesus not put Himself in her care when He was dying? Shouldn’t we emulate what He did? Was she not at the foot of the Cross?

Have you ever read Pope John Paul II’s “Totally Yours” prayer to Mary. I’m sure that you will just love it!
TOTALLY YOURS
Immaculate Conception, Mary, my Mother.
Live in me. Act in me. Speak in and through me.
Think your thoughts in my mind. Love, through my heart.
Give me your dispositions and feelings.
Teach, lead and guide me to Jesus.
Correct, enlighten and expand my thoughts and behavior.
Possess my soul. Take over my entire personality and life.
Replace it with yourself.
Incline me to constant adoration and thanksgiving.
Pray in me and through me.
Let me live in you and keep me in this union always.
– Pope John Paul II
Isn’t it wonderful!?

As you can see, the Pope had a very special relationship with Mary. He knew that her relationship with Christ was so very special that he wanted to embody her in order to know her divine Son as she does.

Where is the veneration of Mary in the book of Revelation? The Lamb is the only one worthy.

Luke 11:27-28 KJV 27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. 28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

This sounds very similar to many prayers in scripture to the members of the Trinity…only with Mary substituted. This is, unfortunately, idolatry.

Mr. Linkowski,

Are you here to chastise Catholics for our Marian practices, or are you truly trying to understand Catholic theology on the subject? I really would like to know.

I couldn’t believe this thread is still being discussed. If all you want is to attack the Catholic, please pick a better topic. For once, you don’t know the heart of JPII. Based on whatever he said, you make a case out of it.

Judging others without knowing much about it, you will be judged.

Tell me if I am wrong if I call for someone’s help? Wouldn’t Jesus put people in the path of your life so that you will be helped?

People are in Heaven for nothing! God still put them to work! To serve others is to serve Him. To help others is to glorify Him.
