DOKI! You made JOKE!!![/SIGN]
:extrahappy::dancing:

I think you meant Egypt, but it is still very funny!
:extrahappy::dancing::rotfl:

I did a little ‘scholarly’ work and found the following form ancient-egypt-online.com/river-nile-facts.html

“The Nile River is often associated with Egypt, it actually touches Ethiopia, Zaire, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Sudan.”

So, would you say that when I said ‘Africa’ I was doing okay?🙂

Dokimas - Excuse me but your insistance upon “Context, Context, Context” belies your point … Matthew does not suggest that Mary and Joseph had relations after the birth of Jesus … quiet the contrary … Matthew’s passage is a comment on the “lack of relations between the two” … in essesnce the entire focus of the Gospel is to prove that Jesus was born of a Virgin … at best it leaves un discussed what transpired in the future between Mary and Joseph …

To read your interpretation of the Gospel it would be for the writer to be saying something like this … trust me, Mary and Joseph had carnal relations but not until after Jesus was born [or concieved] or whatever point in time you might find acceptable and still believe that the child was miraculously concieved by forces beyond the coupling of two human persons …

Instead we have the Gosple writer stating with authority that Mary and Joseph never had carnel relations until the birth … nothing about if, when or ever thay had relations at some future time … the context of the passage is all about Christ nad His advent into the world … it is not [contextually] about Mary and Joseph except in how they relate directly to the subject - which is clearly and only our Lord and Savior, the Christ …
No need to excuse yourself. You have a perfect right to make comments. Thank you for taking your time to do so.

The Matthew 1:24,25 passages tell us that up until the birth of Jesus Mary and Joseph did not have sexual relations. It does not tell us that after His birth they remained celibate.

Sex between a wife and her husband is NOT carnal. It’s a wonder gift from our Creator.

You CANN’T find any verse that says that Joseph and Mary did not have sex after the birth of Jesus. You have to read into the Bible the CC understanding because it’s not there (in the Bible).

I agree that the NT (and the OT) is about Jesus. That’s why I’m confused because so much is made by many here of Mary, the CC, the leadership of the CC, ST, etc.

The comment you felt personally attacked by was that it was poor “biblical scholarship”

So, if you are not a scholar, why would you be personally offended by this observation?
Let’s compare your statement above and my statement you commented on which I highlighted.

Well, I did not make the observation, but since I do agree with it, I can say that you have drawn conclusion about the scriptures and their meaning based upon personal opinion and very poor biblical scholarship.
Thanks for your opinion. One day we will see. I hope sooner than later.
It happens everyday.
What does?
Why do you think that Catholics would notice or be concerned when our separated brethren have drawn conclusions from poor biblical scholarship that are heretical ?
I hope for your sake you are correct. If you are not correct, all those fine scholars that have concluded things different that you and the CC are correct and you are judging them. Serious, wouldn’t you say? Better to keep ones ‘mouth’ shut than judge.
Please help me then, because I think I have some very good understandings of how my separated brethren derive their doctrines. I think studying scripture in Protestant circles and three years in a Protestatant seminary have helped me a great deal in this area.
Doesn’t look like you need my help.
It certainly is a great act of faith to take Jesus at His Word.
Jesus has proven Himself faithful over and over and over again. I’m glad it only takes a mustard seed of faith to please Him.
I have asked people ask me this before. What I have realized is that I have found the answers that make the most sense for me, and when I follow the teachings of the CC my life is happiest. If I find that I was wrong, I will be happily wrong!
I’m happiest when I’m obedient to Jesus and fellowshiping with brothers and sister in Christ.
I thought we agreed that you were not going to change your mind, and that it was not necessary to do so?
I’ve said your tactics and the tactics of others will not change me. I don’t deal well with condescending ways.

I want to know and live the truth and hope I’m always open to the love of the TRUTH.
It is not appropriate for any of us here to expect you to change. The purpose of the forum is to discuss, compare, and contrast diffferences. You cannot be expected to change your mind.
That’s nice of you.
Yes, that has become quite clear.
Thanks.
It has also become increasingly clear that you are unable to see things from the opposing point of view, even if you choose not to adopt that view.
Disagreement does NOT mean not seeing things from your point of view. I take it you think you see it from my point of view yet you disagree with me.
Perhaps you can clarify why you took the scholarship comment as a “personal attack”. It seems to me that people who are “personally attacked” are hurt. If you “don’t get hurt” then you are not human.
As I showed you above, I DID NOT take it as a personal attack.

Let me clarify: I can’t be hurt by anyone on the internet that I don’t know personally.
For a person who says he “could care less” you certainly do a lot of posting here, and react strongly to the content of the posts. I propose to you that people don’t get upset over things they don’t care about. Neither do people get involved and invest time in things they don’t care about. You are responding at an average of ten posts a day. I would say that indicates a significant level of invenstment (caring).
I believe you’ve taken it out of context. I obviously care about the topics I comment on.
BTW, “I don’t care” is a common response humans make when they do care, but they wish they did not, since the caring is upsetting. 😉
I care I have to spend so much comment time correcting your wrong ideas of what I think and am saying. That’s why I’ve asked you to stop doing it, yet you continue. That’s frustrating.
However, I think what you are finding most frustrating is that I am following your assertions to their logical conclusions, and you don’t like the conclusions. For example, when you indicate that God is unable to stop the Apostles from making a mistake, it carries implications about the nature of God.
Wrong. Did Jesus stop Peter from denying Him? NO!!! Did that mean He did not have the power to do so? NO.

Did God stop David from committing adultery and murder? NO!!! Does that mean He did not have the power to do so. NO.

YOU ARE WRONG ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK THE END CONCLUSIONS OF MY IDEAR ARE.
I believe that you dont’ think that God is weak, but your assertions, to be true, would require that He be too weak to act.
As I’ve just shown you, you are wrong.

But, YADA, in particular. To suggest that maybe Joseph and Mary lived in a normal husband-wife relationship, including marital relations, is in no way connected to teenagers receiving contraceptives or the cohabitation of the unmarried. I certainly agree that these trends are disheartening.

What I ponder is why the model Holy Family would not live in a normal family relationship. I regard healthy married sex as a wonderful gift from God, an important source of joy and of intimacy and love between married couples. This Catholic emphasis on virginity seems to point in the opposite direction. After all, wasn’t God’s first commandment “be fruitful and multiply”? There would seem to be an implicit contradiction within Catholic teaching - or at least confusion - when it comes to sexuality. Virginity appears to be highly honored, even favored, while John Paul II wrote some excellent material on the beauty of sex within marriage. …
I do no see this as a confusion nor would I say that the Holy family was un-natural. Mary and Joseph gave themselves up to God’s will fr their lives - a model we should all follow.

In fact, I see the exact opposite. Think of it this way … If you were in the presence of God - would you be focused on your spouse or your Lord? Live closely united to God - day in day out - Mary being more cosely united to Jesus then any living person - ever … and Joseph - as His protector/provider the person most closely united … and what is your focus?

I agree that marital unity is a source of joy and a unifying aspect of many marriages … however it is not the sole aspect of marriage …It is a fact that the Holy Family was not ‘normal’ [in the way you think is *normal]

It is also a fact that in a very spiritual way [not physical - though it resulted in the most physical of results - the Incarnation - and the world’s greatest mystery] Mary was espoused by the Holy Spirit - a reality that this new Christian thought excludes. Mary gave birth the Jesus, God Incarnated, The Son of the Father …

Thus the entire focus of the Holy Family was in living out God’s Plan of Salvation …

And I have known married persons who lived married lives absent sexual intimacy due to circumstances beyond their control … like the husband who is injured and becomes a paraplegic … the woman who suffers a stroke …

Many people are called to live chaste lives …

and to the poster who did not like the word ‘carnal’ … carnal means physical - flesh …married people may engage in carnal relations … carnal does not mean immoral nor illegal - don’t know why you took offence 🤷 - after all Jesus is God *Incarnate *- God in the Flesh]
PS It doesn’t help instill confidence in the church that on page 1 of today’s area paper there is yet another story of a priest whom I knew personally (he was a priest locally) who is charged with molesting an altar boy 20 or so years ago in another town. This does tend to cause pain and promote skepticism. Earlier this week a different story appeared re another priest in a neighboring town who has been arrested for stealing over $1,000,000 in church funds, spending much of it on male escorts in New York City. He had told his parish that he was going to New York for cancer treatments! Yes, Protestants have bad clergy, too, but most of their errant ministers at least seem to have the ‘normal’ weaknesses that lead them into adultery with adult women rather than preying upon altar boys. No excuses for any, but priests have been presented as representatives of Christ in a real sense vested with extraordinary spiritual powers - and this hurts.

May religion become a bridge and not a barrier. None of us have reason to boast. We all are saved by the wonderful grace of God and not by any church or sacrament or doctrine.
I do not consider adultery a ‘normal’ weakness. I hear shades of Clinton the most powerful leader in the world and Monica, the young intern not yet 21 …

As a child survivor of molestation myself - I think there is no worst crime then praying on children and believe that unrepentant molestors will find a special place of torment in eternity …

However, I am sorry to burst your bubble - but married protestant ministers [and coaches, and teachers, and doctors, and lawyers and policemen and every profession you can think of!] have molested children [pedophilia] and engaged in sexual relations with adolescents [pederasty]. And theses are victims of the same and opposite sex. IPCE and NAMBLA are organizations dedicated to making pedophelia and pederasty ‘normal’. And while NAMBLA had one notorious priest attend a meeting - it is not ‘catholic’ -and its members represent every non-religious occupation …

It is a sad truth that your child is far more likely to be molested by a school teacher then by any religious leader. And protestant ministers have a higher perpetrator rate then the catholic priesthood. What makes headlines is the lawsuits … and because the Catholic Church actually has a real and concrete historical pressence - it gets sued and headlines follow … Now that kid who was molested by the Bible Church minister 20 years ago … where does he go to find that ‘responisble’ party … there is no successor to the Bishop, who was the successor to the Bishop who was the successor to the Bishop that may or may not have failed to take adequate action against the priest if he did or did not know if the molesation at the time.

And the School system calls the resignation of accused teacher molestors as “Passing the Trash” …

I am deeply saddened by this crime against children … but it is not a "catholic’ problem and you delude yourself to view it as such - and you put children at risk in doing so …

When I read statements like this, ONE thing is clear to me: You have no grasp on the Scriptures in regards to prefigurements or typology.

**Augustine wrote, **"The New Testament lies hidden in the Old and the Old Testament is revealed in the New”. This statement means that unless one understands the Old Testament, one cannot understand the New Testament.

From the Scriptures - it is abundantly clear that Mary is the fulfillment of the Old Testament type that was the Ark of the Covenant (Sam. 6:9/Luke 1:43, 2 Sam. 6:14/Luke 2:38, 2 Sam. 6:11/Luke 1:56, 1 Sam 4:11, 6:13/Matt. 2:14). She is the Ark of the New Covenant (Jesus). The OT Ark carried symbols of God (Manna, the tablets, Aaron’s rod). The New Ark (Mary) carried GOD HIMSELF.

Non-Catholics charge that it doesn’t matter who gave birth to Jesus. They say that Jesus could have been born from anybodyand still been the Messiah - he could have even been born of a harlot.

Yes, Jesus could have been born of a harlot – but in order to fulfill all righteousness, his coming had to be more glorious than the Old Testament type. He chose Mary out of ALL of the women in history to be his mother.

They also charge that Mary didn’t have to remain a virgin. First of all - IF Mary had other children, there is no reason to think Jesus was any different from those siblings in His origin - that He was God the Son who became man. The perpetual virginity safeguards the miraculous birth, which, in turn, safeguards His special conception, which manifests His eternal pre-existence.

New Testament fulfillments of types found in the Old Testament are more glorious and perfect than the type itself. This rule of Scripture is without exception.
Amen brother…amen!

The English translation of the original language said that. Luke 1:13 in Greek said "Eipen de Mariam pros ton angelon, “Pos estaitouto, epei andra ou ginosko?” The word “Pos” has the enclitic particle of indefiniteness. The phrase “Pos estaitouto epei andra ou ginosko” should be translated “How (with expression of indefiniteness) it can be since I do not know a man?”. Translation sometimes make the original meaning disappear.

👍 You are right of course.

I commend you on your “scholarly work”. 😃

This a good point, and an accurate observation that discussions about Mary inevitably find their way to the root, which is authority and Sacred Tradtion. I have been here for some time now, and been on dozens of “Mary” threads, and they all end up the same!

Sometimes I wonder if God did not allow the Scriptures to be deliberately ambiguous in order to bring to light the foundation of the church.

The doctrine of the faith which Jesus committed to the Church is ONE FAITH. We do not have the authority to excise any part of it. We are to hand down the “whole gospel”. The doctrines of Mary are part of that “whole gospel”. It boils down to how the faith is to be transmitted. It was never intended to be extracted from the pages of the book, but imparted through paradosis. This is how Jesus set things up, and departing from His method produces discord.

I am sorry, Doki. I still don’t understand. A member criticized your interpretatations based upon poor scholarship. You said it was a “personal attack”. Then you posted that you never claimed to be a scholar, so telling you that is not personal. I don’t get it. If you admit you are not a scholar, why are you taking it as an “attack”?

Thanks for your opinion. One day we will see. I hope sooner than later.
Catholics don’t need to wait, because we have the revelation of Jesus infallibly preserved in the Church by the HS. 👍
What does?
People make erroneous interpretations of the Holy Scriptures based upon poor scholarship.

No, Doki, I am not judging any persons. I am judging their conclusions on the basis of the One Faith that was handed down to us by the Apostles. I am commanded to examine all things, and hold fast to that which is true. Besides, the conclusions are not mine, they are part of the once for all deposit of faith that was committed to the Church. We are not at liberty to start cutting things out of it, or change what was committed to us.
Doesn’t look like you need my help.
If you are unwilling to offer your help, then what good does it do to observe that I need it? Are you just trying to find fault with me while witholding anything you can give that will correct my faults? I find it interesting that you recently castigated me in another post for making incorrect assumptions, and commanded me to ask you to clarify instead of drawing wrong conclusions.

Now, I have asked you for help to understand, and you are withdrawing your offer?

I can see where some members have accused you of playing games and being a troll.
Jesus has proven Himself faithful over and over and over again. I’m glad it only takes a mustard seed of faith to please Him.
You have yet to explain how, if He is faithful, why He did not keep His promises to the Church.
I want to know and live the truth and hope I’m always open to the love of the TRUTH.
I think this is hard for you because you have some very deep seated trust issues. You are unable to accept the testimony of the Church on some very critical items.

Disagreement does NOT mean not seeing things from your point of view. I take it you think you see it from my point of view yet you disagree with me.
I agree, it is possible to see a different point of view, but not agree. I am working with troubled teens right now. I just listened to one of them tell me about having multiple abortions. I disagree with her choices, but I understand how she came to make them.

If I do not see things from your point of view, then I need to work at it. For example, I can see why you assume that Mary and Joseph had marital relations based upon the text.
As I showed you above, I DID NOT take it as a personal attack. Let me clarify: I can’t be hurt by anyone on the internet that I don’t know personally.
Apart from whoever produced the woefully inadequate scholarship it is that you’ve been reading. And any scholarship that leads you to think ‘adelphoi’ must mean uterine siblings and excludes, in the NT (even though it doesn’t in the OT), more distant biological relations, IS woefully inadequate in that regard at least.

I thought I made it clear. I read the Bible for myself, I think about it and study Scripture with Scripture and make conclusions for myself. Those unkind words of yours are directed ONLY to me.

Perhaps you can clarify what you were referring to in this reference to “personal attacks”?

It seems to me that people don’t bother to engage in discussion on topics that are of no interest. Since you are so convinced that the Apostles “made a mistake” in choosing Matthias, you obviously care enough to try to convince us that what we received from the Once for All Deposit of Faith is wrong.

I care I have to spend so much comment time correcting your wrong ideas of what I think and am saying. That’s why I’ve asked you to stop doing it, yet you continue. That’s frustrating.
It is frustrating for me as well. I have difficulty understanding why you cannot see the logical conclusions of your arguements. For example:

“What was God going to do, stop the lots in midair?” = God is too weak to stop His Church from making a mistake (the Church He promised to lead into all Truth).
Code:
Wrong. Did Jesus stop Peter from denying Him? NO!!! Did that mean He did not have the power to do so? NO.
When Peter denied Him, Peter was not acting on behalf of the Church, nor was he making a decision that he believed represented the will of God after praying and reading scripture. This is the difference between actions that are protected by the gift of infallibility and personal actions that are not impeccable.

When Peter declared that Jesus is the Christ, he was acting infallibly. When he tried to stop Jesus from going to Jerusalem, he was acting peccably.
Did God stop David from committing adultery and murder? NO!!! Does that mean He did not have the power to do so. NO.
God did not promise to keep David (or any other individual) from sin. The gift of infallility was given to the Church. That is why, when individuals depart from communion with the Church, they are not longer protected by the promise.
YOU ARE WRONG ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK THE END CONCLUSIONS OF MY IDEAR ARE.
I am certain that you don’t believe your premises lead there, but you have offered me no other possibility. Why did Jesus leave the Church orphaned after He said He would not? How is it the HS failed to preserve them in the Truth? If He was not too weak, then what was it? You are suggesting that the weakness of men is stronger than the might of God.

You wonderfully posted the conversation bellow. I’ll comment there. I think you get it all cleared up for you.
Catholics don’t need to wait, because we have the revelation of Jesus infallibly preserved in the Church by the HS. 👍
You may be correct. You may not be correct.
People make erroneous interpretations of the Holy Scriptures based upon poor scholarship.
Or trusting in wrong tradition which is spoken about in the Bible as well as following correct tradition.
Will you blame the CC if some of your understandings are proven incorrect? I will not blame anyone but myself when I’m proven wrong.
For what are you asking my help?

Here’s my problem: we are sososososososo far from the discussions you’ve pulled your comments from that what I’ve said gets distorted.

You say you ask for help and you act as if you have all the answers because your church has been entrusted with all the correct answers. You seem to lack sincerity by asking. Put the two together (you have all the answers and you lack sincerity) I don’t see you need, want nor would receive my help.
Now, I have asked you for help to understand, and you are withdrawing your offer?
You quoted me to have said, “Doesn’t look like you need my help.” Again you’ve concluded wrongly and interjected wrong meaning into what I’ve said. I’m believing you do this perposely. You either want to convince yourself or others I don’t have a clue. That may be true, and if so, you don’t have to change or add to what I’ve said incorrect statements. You should just let me ‘hang’ by myself. Because you do change and distort, can I conclude I do make more sense (in spite of my poor writing skills) than you want a non-catholic to have?
I can see where some members have accused you of playing games and being a troll.
Maybe I do and am. Maybe they need these things to be true or else they’d have to acknowledge a bit of correct understanding different than their own.
You have yet to explain how, if He is faithful, why He did not keep His promises to the Church.
I can’t because Jesus have kept His promises.
I think this is hard for you because you have some very deep seated trust issues. You are unable to accept the testimony of the Church on some very critical items.
I accept any correct testimony the the CC has about Jesus. You’ve commented several times that things I’ve said is very ‘catholic’.

I do have a difficult time trusting anyone or organization that says “I/we are correct because our documents tell us so. We are correct because we’ve traced ourselves back to the original. We are original so all else is to one degree or another wrong.” The Holy Spirit should draw us to a church. We should not be driven or ‘scared’ into a church.
I agree, it is possible to see a different point of view, but not agree. I am working with troubled teens right now. I just listened to one of them tell me about having multiple abortions. I disagree with her choices, but I understand how she came to make them.
William F. Buckley’s opinion about many women that have abortions is they it’s not really their free choice. He said they often are ‘forced’ into abortions. Not to mention the hormones that reek havic on the emotion of women when they are pregnant. IMO, God holds those forcing the woment and those perfoming the abortions FAR more guilty than the troubled women. Of course there are many that know better and abort anyway.
If I do not see things from your point of view, then I need to work at it. For example, I can see why you assume that Mary and Joseph had marital relations based upon the text.
Thank you.

Perhaps you can clarify what you were referring to in this reference to “personal attacks”?
If you notice the quotes you pulled up, Lily was attacking the scholarship of the people she thought I was studying through or with. I was refering to her attack on them. I told her not to blame anyone for my understandings. I study for myself (not in a vacuum - I think you made that observation and brought it to light which I agreed).
You seem to care enough to argue against the Teaching of the Apostles on the matter.
I can’t remember which of the direct teachings of the NT I’ve disagreed with. It’s been teachings after the NT cannon that I’ve commented on, not the direct teachings of the NT. If I’m incorrect, please show me the teachings of the 1st century apostles that I’ve disagreed with.
It seems to me that people don’t bother to engage in discussion on topics that are of no interest. Since you are so convinced that the Apostles “made a mistake” in choosing Matthias, you obviously care enough to try to convince us that what we received from the Once for All Deposit of Faith is wrong.
I’m not exactly sure why I made the original comment. That’s so many words ago. However, I’ve continues the conversation only in response to comments by you and others. I’ve had to correct your wrong understandings of what I’ve said.

Paul told us that when he was weak, God told him that’s when His grace will make him strong.

2 Corinthians 12:
9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

IMO, getting things wrong sometimes is a weakness. God is bigger than our mistakes.

2Co 3:
5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God,
6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Roman 7:14-8:1
14 ¶ For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
1 ¶ There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

It is frustrating for me as well. I have difficulty understanding why you cannot see the logical conclusions of your arguements. For example:

“What was God going to do, stop the lots in midair?” = God is too weak to stop His Church from making a mistake (the Church He promised to lead into all Truth).
I understand it is hard for you to admit that something said does not necessarilly have the conclusion you think it does.

Does God interfer when the CC ordains men that He knows will be pediphiles? Is He too weak to do so? Using your ‘taking things to their logical conclusions’ God must be becasue there are men ordained by the CC that do wicked things.

You can’t have it both ways.
When Peter denied Him, Peter was not acting on behalf of the Church, nor was he making a decision that he believed represented the will of God after praying and reading scripture. This is the difference between actions that are protected by the gift of infallibility and personal actions that are not impeccable.
When the CC ordains men, where’s the gift of infallibility? If it doesn’t apply here, are you telling us that God is too weak to control who the CC ordains? If you are not saying that, then why accuse me of meaning that? You can’t have it both ways and be honest with yourself.
When Peter declared that Jesus is the Christ, he was acting infallibly. When he tried to stop Jesus from going to Jerusalem, he was acting peccably.
You make my point. I don’t think you see that though.
God did not promise to keep David (or any other individual) from sin. The gift of infallility was given to the Church. That is why, when individuals depart from communion with the Church, they are not longer protected by the promise.
God didn’t, IMO, promise to keep the church faultless. He promices to cleanse her. Two very different things. One gets cleanse because there is dirt. There’s no shame before mankind when dirt is found because all are dirty. The only shame comes when claims are made of being clean with no dirt and dirt is obvious. The shame is in denial. (not the river in Egypt/Africa:D)

Eph 5:
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
Actually, from my viewpoint, it is you that has no other possibility because if you enterain I could be correct, then you’d be in a dilema. That would be too bad. That’s why many leave the CC: starting with a wrong (IMO of course) presupposition about the CC and then have their ‘faith’ dashed when mistakes are discovered. EX. the CC isn’t infallible because some they ordain are not good representatives. People can’t reconcil these contradictions.

When the CC ordains men, where’s the gift of infallibility?
I think I’ve posted this for you before, but here it is again just in case.

Conditions that must be met for a papal teaching to be infallible
  • Must teach or in some way clarify
  • Can’t contradict previous teachings
  • Must involve faith and morals
  • To be held by all
  • Statement made of his own free will (not forced by others)
  • He must invoke the full authority of his office

You may be correct. You may not be correct.
Why do you think Jesus abandoned the promises He made to His infant Church?
Or trusting in wrong tradition which is spoken about in the Bible as well as following correct tradition.
I am glad that you can see that there is some correct tradition in scripture that must be followed. 👍

I agree, people make erroneous interpretations of scripture all the time based upon wrong tradition. Most of this stems from the doctrine of Sola Scriptura.
Will you blame the CC if some of your understandings are proven incorrect? I will not blame anyone but myself when I’m proven wrong.
No, not a bit! I used to do that, but I got over it. 😃

Since I now understand that the Teachings of Jesus are infallibly preserved in His Church, just as he promised, then if I fail to understand them I know that it is my understanding that is lacking, not the Teaching of Jesus.

Here's my problem: we are sososososososo far from the discussion**s** you've pulled your comments from that what I've said gets distorted.

I agree, though, something is definitely distorted. 😉
You say you ask for help and you act as if you have all the answers because your church has been entrusted with all the correct answers.
To the extent that I am in communion with the Teachings of Jesus then I can be protected by His promise that I will be led into all Truth.

**
You seem to lack sincerity by asking. Put the two together (you have all the answers and you lack sincerity) I don’t see you need, want nor would receive my help.**

The help I need is to understand what YOU are saying, because it does not make sense to me. Unfortunately, the CC can’t help me with that either.

I accept any correct testimony the the CC has about Jesus. You've commented several times that things I've said is very 'catholic'.
Yes, you have posted things that indicate you agree with the Teachings of Jesus as handed down to us from the Aposltes. You use yourself as the standard of what is “correct testimony about Jesus”.
I do have a difficult time trusting anyone or organization that says "I/we are correct because our documents tell us so.
I would too. In the case of the CC, the documents only point to what Jesus has already done.
We are correct because we’ve traced ourselves back to the original. We are original so all else is to one degree or another wrong."
This is only true because the “original” is founded by Christ, and He does not create error.
The Holy Spirit should draw us to a church. We should not be driven or ‘scared’ into a church.
I agree, but have you ever considered that God uses fear to draw us? Is it so bad to fear the loss of heaven, and the pains of hell? Granted, love is a much more advanced way to come to God, but fear will do, if it gets us there. Then His perfect love can cast out the fear.
She was attacking the poor scholarship that resulted in the interpretations. It turned out to be yours. However, I do understand the point you are making here.

I've had to correct your wrong understandings of what I've said.
Clearly you do not like the logical conclusions of your arguement. In order for your theories to be true, God had to fail to keep HIs promises.
Paul told us that when he was weak, God told him that’s when His grace will make him strong.
Indeed, but you believe that Peter was “weak” and made a mistake in choosing Matthias to succeed Judas. You do not think that God was “strong” in Peter, but abandoned Peter’s solution, and “chose Paul instead”.

I understand it is hard for you to admit that something said does not necessarilly have the conclusion you think it does.
So, you think I misunderstood your assertion that Peter made a mistake? Or your assertion that God chose Paul “instead” of Matthias to replace Judas?

Apparently you did not mean to imply that God was “weak” because He did not stop the lots in midair?
Code:
Does God interfer when the CC ordains men that He knows will be pediphiles? Is He too weak to do so?
Why would you call the leading of God “intereference”? One of the reasons that the discernment period for priests is so long and involved is to allow God to reveal His will to the individual, and to the Church.

However, Jesus did not promise that any individuals would be without error. This promise was made to the CHURCH. Peter was acting in His capacity as an Apostle, on behalf of the CHURCH. The Church does not sin when she ordains a priest. Neither this Peter sin when he initiated the casting of lots for Matthias.

If Matthias had chosen to sin after he was selected, no, God would not necessarily prevent that.
Code:
Using your 'taking things to their logical conclusions' God must be becasue there are men ordained by the CC that do wicked things.
I am sorry I cannot follow this. I think you are saying that God must be weak because men choose to sin, and He does not prevent it.

However, Jesus never promised to prevent men from sinning. He promised to lead the Church into all Truth. If He failed to preserve them in Truth, and allowed them to fall into error, then He did not keep His promise. They prayed “show us which one YOU have chosen”. This, they did as His Church, not as individuals. So, if He failed to lead them, then He left them orphaned, and broke His promise.

You can't have it both ways.
They are not two “ways”. They are separate situations. In one, the Church entrusting themselves to God, and is acting as a unity. In the other, and individual is choosing to sin against God and the Church.
When the CC ordains men, where’s the gift of infallibility?
Ordained persons can benefit from the gift just as we all can. If we remain in communion with the Truth, we inherit the promise. When an individual chooses to sin, whether it is an ordained person or a lay person, that individual has left the Truth, and no longer is protected by the promise.

Ordination, Doki, is not a sin, or a “mistake”. What a person may do after they ordained may be, but that is not an action of the Church. You are saying that the Church ordained Matthias by “mistake”.

There is no contradiction, Doki. Individuals are members of the Church, but the Church cannot sin, because she is kept in purity by Christ. A person’s choice to sin, whether before they are ordained, or after, does not subtract from the purity of Christ. that is like saying, “since Judas betrayed Christ after he was chosen by him, Christ is fallible”.

If this is the answer to my questions, taking what you’re saying in context to the questions you are telling us that you used to get upset when you found the CC teaching incorrect but now it doesn’t upset you. Good that you’re making progress.
Since I now understand that the Teachings of Jesus are infallibly preserved in His Church, just as he promised, then if I fail to understand them I know that it is my understanding that is lacking, not the Teaching of Jesus.
You are correct. The teachings of Jesus are NOT lacking. It’s the understanding of us (including some things from ALL churches) that is lacking to one degree or another.

Good. Thank you. I noticed that. Thanks for supporting my claims.
I agree, though, something is definitely distorted.
I would greatly appreciate it if you’d stop distorting what I say. Again, thanks for your understanding and co-operation.
The help I need is to understand what YOU are saying, because it does not make sense to me. Unfortunately, the CC can’t help me with that either.
Here’s some advice: don’t tell us what I mean before asking me to clarify it. It comes across as a false witness.
Yes, you have posted things that indicate you agree with the Teachings of Jesus as handed down to us from the Aposltes. You use yourself as the standard of what is “correct testimony about Jesus”.
I’m not a standard. Us ‘Bible Only’ use the Jesus/the teachings of the Bible as our standard.
This is only true because the “original” is founded by Christ, and He does not create error.
Good thing we don’t have to be exact to be part of His original church. If we needed to be perfect, there would be no one in His church AND no present day ‘churches’ either.
I agree, but have you ever considered that God uses fear to draw us? Is it so bad to fear the loss of heaven, and the pains of hell? Granted, love is a much more advanced way to come to God, but fear will do, if it gets us there. Then His perfect love can cast out the fear.
Jude tells us there is an occation for ‘fear’. However, it’s been abused too often. You fill in the blanks as to what I mean.
She was attacking the poor scholarship that resulted in the interpretations. It turned out to be yours. However, I do understand the point you are making here.
Finally.
Clearly you do not like the logical conclusions of your arguement. In order for your theories to be true, God had to fail to keep HIs promises.
Here we go again. I no sooner think we’re making progress then back 4 steps. I know it’s scary for you to entertain the possibility that you are incorrect about what the conclusions of my arguments are. God has not failed; we (all churches including the CC) have failed including doctrine.
Indeed, but you believe that Peter was “weak” and made a mistake in choosing Matthias to succeed Judas. You do not think that God was “strong” in Peter, but abandoned Peter’s solution, and “chose Paul instead”.
I did not say that God abandoned Matthias. I’m sure God used Matthias. However, history has shown that God used Paul at least to the degree He used Peter. That speaks volumes as to God’s choice. Remember, God uses our mistakes. That’s the power of His love, mercy and grace.

We have no record of Jesus casting lots for God to show Him which men would be the original 12. He chose them person-to-person. That’s how He called Saul of Tarsus: person-to-person.

Apparently you did not mean to imply that God was “weak” because He did not stop the lots in midair?
My question had NOTHING to do with God’s weakness. I asked you how you think God was to tell Peter and the others they were doing His job. We’re spending so much time on such a small thing. Can’t we move on yet?
Why would you call the leading of God “intereference”? One of the reasons that the discernment period for priests is so long and involved is to allow God to reveal His will to the individual, and to the Church.
Have all the pediphiles been weeded out? Using your logic, God is too weak to cause the CC to get rid of the pediphiles before they do their wicked deeds as priests.
On one hand you say Jesus did promise any individual would be without error. Then you tell us that Peter was not in error and the CC is not in error when they choose a man that is, in his heart, a pediphile to be a priest. If it’s not the CC that is in error (an error allowed by God for His own purposes) or you are telling us that God is too weak to stop it.
If Matthias had chosen to sin after he was selected, no, God would not necessarily prevent that.
As He doesn’t necessarily stop the CC or any other organization for making mistakes either.
I am sorry I cannot follow this. I think you are saying that God must be weak because men choose to sin, and He does not prevent it.
If I’ve said over and over and over over and over and overover and over and overover and over and overover and over and overover and over and overover and over and overover and over and overover and over and overover and over and overover and over and overover and over and over again that God is NOT weak in allowing people to make wrong choices or tosin, why do you insist on making this FALSE claim?
However, Jesus never promised to prevent men from sinning. He promised to lead the Church into all Truth. If He failed to preserve them in Truth, and allowed them to fall into error, then He did not keep His promise. They prayed “show us which one YOU have chosen”. This, they did as His Church, not as individuals. So, if He failed to lead them, then He left them orphaned, and broke His promise.
And God did show them, IMO, starting on the road to Damascus.

They are not two “ways”.

On the contrary.
Ordained persons can benefit from the gift just as we all can. If we remain in communion with the Truth, we inherit the promise. When an individual chooses to sin, whether it is an ordained person or a lay person, that individual has left the Truth, and no longer is protected by the promise.
Interesting:thumbsup: to inherit the promise, as you say, we must remain in communion with the Truth. God doesn’t force us to be in that communion. Therefore, I was correct that Jesus is not going back on His promise if the CC strays at times from communing with the Truth. Following your logic leads us to what I’ve been saying all along. Thank you.
Ordination, Doki, is not a sin, or a “mistake”. What a person may do after they ordained may be, but that is not an action of the Church. You are saying that the Church ordained Matthias by “mistake”.
I’m not saying the CC ordained Matthias. The 11 did.

I’m saying there is a possibility they made a mistake assuming God was intending to choose one of the two.

I’m NOT saying it was a sin. (highlighted, underlined and made bigger so there would NOT be any misunderstanding)
As individuals we can be dirty, but the Church has been purified by Him, and is Holy. That is why, when we sin, we separate ourselves from her.
We all, including the church, must be continually cleansed.
More than a dilemma, and “too bad”, because you present that which constitutes “a different gospel”, I would be accursed!
No, not a different Gospel; a different understanding for sure. I wouldn’t worry about it being a different Gospel if I were you.
Jesus is infallible. He told us He chose Judas for His purpose. The sin of Judas did not speak of any weakness of God. The possible wrong understandings of the CC does not mean God is weak or going back on His promise. It just means God choses whom He will for His purposes.

Luke 1:27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David: and the virgin’s name was Mary. ad virginem desponsatam viro cui nomen erat Ioseph de domo David et nomen virginis Maria
1 28 And **the angel **being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. et ingressus angelus ad eam dixit have gratia plena Dominus tecum benedicta tu in mulieribus
1 29 Who having heard, was troubled at his saying and thought with herself what manner of salutation this should be. quae cum vidisset turbata est in sermone eius et cogitabat qualis esset ista salutatio
1 30 And the angel said to her: Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found grace with God.

Mary is full of Grace, the believer is parted Grace.
? If God chose Mary a Virgin to give birth to his Son, by placing that enmity between her and the serpent (sin) (Gen. 3:15), thus “full of Grace” so that neither Mary the blessed Virgin (Luke 1:48) nor her Son Jesus could be tainted by sin. Mary filled with this Love of God, does not common sense speak volumes here of what need does Mary have for the desires of the flesh? When her eternal soul is full of Grace in order to give birth to the Son of God.

God’s Word never returns back to Him void. Thus Mary remained a virgin before, during and after giving birth to Jesus, according to the prophets (Isaiah 7:14, 66:7-8) and fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

Peace be with you

You’re making at least two assuptions. 1. That Mary was the only human (except Jesus) that is ‘full of Grace’ and 2. That if Mary had God given sex with her husband, then she would no longer be ‘full of Grace’ and would be tainted by sin.

IMO, both assumptions are incorrect.

There is one more thing about this thread that you should know about. You need to know that back in those times they mostly spoke in Aramaic. In that language there is no word for cousin, uncle, aunt, niece or any such relation. As such all were referred to as brothers and sisters.
