I was in moral theology when we struck a convo about Mary there, so I thought I would bring it here, where it belongs:
Why is Mary called the New Eve when it is obvious that the “New Eve” is the Church?
Compare:
Adam - had a wife, named Eve.
Last Adam 1 Cor 15:45 (Christ) - has a Wife, the Church.
This verse of Scripture is addressed to the Church (congregation) at Corinth in 2 Cor 11:3
“But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.”
In that verse, Paul compares the Church to Eve.
“For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin.”** 2 Cor 11:2**
Paul has compared the congregation, collectively, as being a virgin which he has betrothed to a Husband - and that husband is Christ. The wife of Adam was Eve. The wife of the Last Adam, is the Church, here.
Again, it is written:
“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the Church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Therefore as the Church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the Church, and gave himself for it;
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
That he might present it to himself a glorious Church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” Eph. 5:22-27
Here Paul compares the husband’s headship of the wife to that of Christ’s over the Church. Then he says that husbands should love their wives as Christ loved the Church (His wife) and gave Himself for it.
Lastly, the marriage feast is between the Bride and the Bridegroom, which, undeniably, is speaking of the Church and Jesus.
Who are the bride and bridegroom? Jesus and the Church.
“He who has the bride is the bridegroom…” John 3:29
This is also spoken of in Rev 19:7 “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.” and Rev 22:17 says "The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come’ ". Who is the Bride? Mary? No; the Church, which is therefore, the New Eve, of the Last Adam 1 Cor 15:45, Christ.
So, Eve was the wife of Adam. The Church is the Wife/Bride of Christ, the Bridegroom.
Does anyone get what I’m saying, I think it is obvious! I am a fool in Christ, I don’t know anything; this is so obvious that even I, a fool, can see it!

- just as the serpent deceived Eve (wife of Adam) into eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil
- so you (the wife of the Last Adam) might be led astray from the simplicity of devotion to Christ.
