In the Nicene Creed we say:

We believe in the Holy Spirit, THE LORD, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.
He has spoken through the Prophets.

And assert, each Sunday, that the Holy Spirit is God. All praise and Glory to Him!

And that is the way it has been represented to you. But not to me. To me YOU are way off. Please give me BIBLICAL references to this. Thank you! 🙂
What are you trying to do on this site? Are you trying to convince me or anyone for that matter, that you and your beliefs are right? If you want a Biblical references how about reading LK 3:21-22. At Jesus’ baptism, as He (God the Son) emerges from the water, a voice (God the Father) speaks from heaven, and a dove (a form taken by God the Holy Spirit) alights on him. The Father is God, Jesus is God and the Holy Spirit is God. How about you show me a Biblical refernce to the way you know it or think you know it.

Ok, well let me ask you this question…

While Jesus was here on earth who was He speaking to in His prayer before He was crucified? Was Heaven divoid of God while Jesus walked this earth? How about now… I mean we still have the Holy Spirit here… Why do we call it the Holy Spirit and not God if it is Him.
(1) When he was on Earth, Jesus spoke to God the Father, the 1st person of the trinity. When He was crucified He spoke to God the Father from the cross.

(2) When God the Son was on Earth, God the Father was in Heaven.

(3) The Holy Spirit is also God, in a 3rd and distinct person. We do not call the Holy Spirit God the Father or God the Son because the Holy Spirit is a third distinct person.

E.E.N.S.:
Then you misunderstand the mistery of the Trinity (we all do to different extents however), but you are borderline starting to sound like you believe in polytheism and not monotheism…is that what you are trying to say?
No… I don’t know… Like someone said above… it’s hard to explain…

**I am going to interject this because I need to right now…

I need prayer right at this moment. I am going through something really hard. I really don’t want to go into specifics but I can say that I believe Satan is trying to whisper in my ear and tell me things that God does not want me thinking… We may differ in some places but prayer amoung my brothers and sisters is much needed. **

On my way:

Wow… I frustrated you somehow… I am sorry. That was not my intention. I am looking for answers as to what you as a catholic believe and where you got your ideals from because on some things they so differ from mine… Again I apologize…

+Lord Jesus Christ, send your angels to watch over the person I know as “Singinbeauty.” May Your love and protection surround her and keep her from the snares and traps of the Evil One. In your mercy, Lord, protect her and show her the peace and the light of Your love. Guide her in her search for Your Truth.+ Amen.

I am not frustrated with you. You are not the first person to come to this forum and ask the same question that every protestant wants to know. I am frustrated with the fact that there are so many people who think and believe that Catholics are wrong. You are not saying that we are wrong, directly, but indirectly you are. I know you want to learn, but this thread went from Mary to the Trinity. Let me ask you this Question. How can every Catholic on this forum be wrong? For some reason our answers are pretty consistant with Scripture, Tradition, Doctrines and Church teachings. Why is it that every other denom. has got different answers.

St. Augustine of Hippo on the Trinity. “All the Catholic interpreters of the divine books of the old and new testaments whom I have been able to read, who wrote before me about the Trinity, which is God, intended to teach in accord with the Scriptures that the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit are of one and the same substance constituting a divine unity with an inseparble equality; and therefore there are not three gods but ONE God.”

This was from the year A.D 400-416. Can you show me anything that dates back to the Early Church Fathers that would contradict this .

Once again it is not you that frustrates me, it is the redundency of questions. I accept your apology. 👍

The Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds hide me.
Suffer me not to be separated from Thee.
From the malignant enemy defend me.
In the hour of my death call me.
And bid me to come to Thee.
That with Thy Saints I may praise Thee
Forever and ever. Amen.

** The Saint Michael Prayer**

Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do you, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Pax tecum Sister,

Thank you for your prayers… I feel the sadness being pushed away! Thank the Lord. One of these days I will share my testimony with you but right now is not a good thing because it will be a bunch of blubbering and not make much sense at all…

As for how we got on the trinity I don’t know…

Back to Mary folks!

But to answer a question that was brought up…
Let me ask you this Question. How can every Catholic on this forum be wrong? For some reason our answers are pretty consistant with Scripture, Tradition, Doctrines and Church teachings. Why is it that every other denom. has got different answers.
Not every denomination has got different answers when it comes to the trinity or other things. Some even agree with the catholic view. Which, it could be said, that we probably do have the same view but we all just say it differently. I don’t know.

I just wanted to add one of my favorite prayers (before we get back to Mary) 🙂

Behold me, my beloved Jesus, weighed down under the burden of my trials and sufferings, I cast myself at Your feet, that You may renew my strength and my courage, while I rest here in your presence. Permit me to lay down my cross in Your sacred Heart, for only Your infinite goodness can sustain me; only Your love can help me bear my cross; only Your powerful hand can lighten its weight. O Divine King Jesus, whose heart is so compassionate to the afflicted, I wish to live in You; suffer and die in You. During my life, be to me my model and my support; at the hour of my death, be my hope and refuge. Amen.

Thank you mercygate… I just wasn’t going to respond. People like that turn me off and I choose to ignore them… But thank you, I was hoping that that was the way I was coming off! 🙂
If you click on the offending poster’s name you will get a drop down list and then click on the first option at the top that allows you to go their profile.

In the middle of that screen (Just above your signature) you will see two options in dark boldface. One is for buddy listing them and the other is for putting them on an ignore list that will keep you from having to read their posts until such time as you change your mind and remove them from the list, but you have no time limit on that, so it can be as permanent or not as you wish.

It cures the problem of people who give you bad responses, but are not in flagrant violation of the forum rules. Many people don’t even know the option exists and so fail to use it. 😉 I am not one of them, (right now… :rotfl: )
Pax tecum,

Wisdom indeed, simply not to respond. I, too, do not react to such stuff when it is directed at me (which, of course, it *never *is because I am such a model of peace and decency . . ). Anyway, the kind of posts Elvis put up is agin’ the rules!

Never mind. Sister Mercygate hasn’t rapped any knuckles in a while, and it felt good to have the ruler back in my hand.

(OK I was never hit by a nun in my life, nor did I ever see anybody else smacked by a nun – but it was too good an stereotype to let pass on a Catholic forum!)
Hey Mercygate - I KNOW who I’m talking to.
The comment about MarineBoy - in case you haven’t been on the forum before - was in reference to another antagonist whose sole purpose, it seems is to ruffle feathers. The orignal question seems innocent enough, but the resposnses get more and more irrational. Great claims are made without furnishing evidence.
In other words, mind your own business.
Now, if Singinbeauty would be so kind as to answer the questions about Lazarus and the rich man - not to mention the several questions asking her to furnish proof of this so-called “marriage-consumation” ceremony that she alleges, we can put this all to rest. In other words, put your apologetics where your mouth is.
Now, I hope I didn’t rap your proverbial knuckles too hard . . .

Well, ok… I won’t be responding to your posts anymore… have a good day! 😃
That’s fine if you don’t want to respond, but there is still that big, unresolved matzah ball hanging out there which is basically that you have asked Catholics to defend their faith without any reference to Catholic teaching, which is like asking us to design a functional jet plane without any reference to the laws of physics.

This was jewish custom and there is nothing in the bible to say otherwise when it comes to Mary and Joseph.
This information is posted on several ‘Rapture’ and ‘Tribulation’ study sites. Here:
hosanna.org.za/Behold.htm

here:
khouse.org/articles/2003/449/

and here:
his-forever.com/jewish_weddings_rapture.htm

There are other sites as well.

There is no single source cited for this, although it is obvious that it is taken whole from an unnamed original. The information within it is gathered, according to footnotes, from various sources. It does seem odd that the original source is not named but footnotes are included.

I have no idea how much of this corresponds to genuine ancient practice; the point of it is to teach about the ‘Rapture’ through a putative Jewish wedding ceremony.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modalism

Modalism really destroys the concept of the Trinity. The Blessed Trinity is three distinct persons each making up the divine Godhead. God the Father is seperate from God the Son and the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father & the Son. They are not the SAME being they are THREE co eternal distinct persons who make up the perfect Godhead who are three in unity, divinity and purpose and one because they are co eternal and divine.

I don’t think it is entirely by accident that this thread has somehow jumped from a discussion of Mary to a discussion about the Holy Trinity.

The Catholic Church through the first centuries of its growth had to battle a number of heresies. Most of these heresies were about the nature of Christ and the nature of the Godhead.

In combatting these heresies the Church clearly defined the doctrine of the Trinity - One God consisting of Three Persons.

The Church also clearly defined the reality that Jesus Christ is God and man, one Person of two natures, human and divine. In making that definition the Church made it clear that the Virgin Mary gave birth to the man who was also God, and for that reason she was called Theotokas - God bearer or Mother of God. She was NOT called the Mother of God as though she had created God, but she was called the Mother of God because her Child was God the Son.

This reality - that the child Mary carried in her womb, gave human nature to, suckled and fed, protected and cared for throughout childhood and followed to the Cross - was the God of the Universe, is the reason why we regard Mary with such wonder. We Catholics give no greater honour to Mary than God Himself has given to her.

The Bible says that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16). That is, the prayers of the righteous are particularly powerful. You can’t imagine a Christian more righteous than Jesus’ own Mother. Therefore just imagine how powerful her prayers for us must be. And how can anyone imagine that Mary is in Heaven with God and not praying for us? That makes no sense at all.

I agree - especially since the Archangel Gabriel called her “full of Grace”. Not just a little bit of grace - but FULL OF GRACE (i.e. she had done EVERYTHING right and according to God the Father’s Divine Will). She is the perfect model for what us humans need to be like - subordinate and faithful to God. This, and for this reason alone is why Catholics and the Orthodox hold her in such high regard.

elvisman,

How about you lay off of Mercygate, pronto? With a post count nearing 4,000, I’m pretty sure MG knows how to go about this. Furthermore, MG is my friend, and I won’t stand for this kind of treatment.

Maybe you should take your style of apologetics to www.baptistboard.com , and lay off of this thread for a while.

May the Almighty and Ever Living God grant you peace,
RyanL

Hey - Baptists are people, too! http://forums.catholic-questions.org/images/icons/icon10.gif Don’t be so quick to judge Baptists and others. There are PLENTY of rude remarks on this forum.
Get a life, RyanL. I was merely defending myself.
Now, if Singinbeauty would address the questions being asked, like “Can you provide sources for these ridiculous claims?” . . . . .
