We asked for a Catholic priest. In response to your comment of a “validly ordained priest” of another denomination., there is no such thing as a validly ordained woman priest. . Holy Orders are for men only. This is what the Roman Catholic Church teaches, this is what I believe. Sorry if it offends you. But when dealing with matters of the spirit, there is no room for messing around.

:amen:

I’m curious about that myself. If she was an ordained minister of another denomination then I would have to agree that the Deacon was rather rude
I have new seen a single instance on this forum where Deacon Ed B has ever said and done anything rude. As we saw in his later post, the explanation lay elsewhere.

Well now you have.

No, I do not believe I have. He simply sent away a woman masquerading as a Catholic priest.
If she was a woman masquerading as a Catholic Priest what he did was appropriate. if she was an ordained member of another faith it was not,

It sounds to me like the hospital got it messed up then. Ok so he asked for a catholic priest, maybe the person asked assumed all priests were the same, and got the chaplain on duty, who was NOT actually masquerading as a catholic priest nor pretending to be one, but someone from another faith, and a perfectly validly ordained woman priest, in that faith. The Anglican Church is one, so I’m lead to believe.

For a catholic deacon to tell a priest of another denomination she is no priest is nothing but the height of rudeness and arrogance in my opinion. Well done you 👍

You better tell the Archbishop of Canterbury that then 😛

It doesn’t offend me at all.

Does the catholic church also teach you can be as rude and blunt as you like to a member of the opposite sex and clergywoman as well, in circumstances where she was called out of the blue to come and assist you - and it wasn’t her fault there was a breakdown in communication and she didn’t meet your required religious standards.

As I see it, the woman was called to your hospital room, she came, most likely in a spirit of good will and empathy for a hospital patient, and you were nasty to her and threw her out. And now you boast about it on an internet bulletin board. Like I said - bet she thinks highly of catholic deacons now huh?

I am surprised this has gone on for as long as it has. For the record, I asked for a Catholic priest and this woman came dressed in black clericals and Roman collar, and presented herself as a Catholic priest. She even had a name tag identifying her as a Catholic priest. This should hopefully set this matter to rest, as it it is not the topic of this thread. For the record , if it happened again, I would do exactly the same thing. As an agnostic, I know you do not think this is a big issue. For us who believe, it is an extremely important issue, which could have an effect on the eternal salvation of an individual’s soul. This is also why I involved the hospital administration in the matter.

Well that clears that up. I would’ve done exactly the same thing you did… In fact I would’ve taken itg a step further and called the diocese and told them a woman was impersonating a priest

It does 👍 I agree that this woman pretending to be a catholic priest is out of line 😦

Well, not quite. I respect the fact you wanted a catholic priest to be there with you, and I believe that is what you should have got. I’m appalled that this woman was going around the hospital, dealing with sick, dying, vulnerable adults and children, PRETENDING to be a catholic priest 😦

And I would have too - my concern would be that people of the catholic faith would not be getting the solace and comfort and blessing they thought they would be. Even I can figure out that if this woman had performed any of your rituals and blessings they would not be valid as such, (but I’m sure your god would take that into account if someone genuinely didn’t know). It also comes to mind she may have been mentally unwell, and in need of help herself, or else up to some serious no good  Then again, could she have been one of those new women catholic priests I’ve been reading about - don’t answer  I know to most catholics there’s no such thing and it’s those crazy darned feminists wannabes just causing trouble 😛
