It is not only that, Patty. Sometimes we just forget as we forget to put it on as we hop on and off the car running errands.
The other reason( which I am considering these days though there are no cases around where I am staying) is that taking it off requires a careful procedure so… I am personally trying to train myself for the worst case scenario so taking off at home and straight to the bucket to be cleaned might be a better choice when going out for groceries etc( for me anyway, not “ scientifically” anything…,ok?).

Also, I will NOT walk around or do my lab work with fogged-up glasses!
I have been tweaking masks since march. My solution to this is a paper clip. I took a heavy paper clip and bent it to the shape of my nose. Then I used that as a template for several. I make a small hole in the top of the mask, thread the clip through, and stitch it in (or use hot glue). Since I started this, my glasses no longer fog.

Only in America do people conflate personal opinion and scientific validity
I’m not sure what you mean. It’s not personal opinion that the science behind masks-for-all is extremely uncertain and ambiguous. If you’re a just-in-case kind of guy, that’s great. But there’s not enough data to justify moral outrage toward the non-compliant or accuse them of “stupidity.”

masks-for-all is extremely uncertain and ambiguous.
At this point it’s probably just a precaution. It’s easier to say mask on when you’re outside without a list of when you must put them on. It’s more annoying, but like I said earlier, I’m pretty sure it’s just easier to tell someone to leave it on than to let them touch their bare faces and spread the virus though objects before they get to put it on in a certain area.

That being said, there’s literally people who insist wearing mask is an insult to ‘God’s breathing system’, and that it causes oxygen deprivation and all of that so yup, that’s definitely crazy

I was trying some very thin wire jewelry /beading type but I ‘ ll try your idea. Sounds very good and practical .Plenty of clips at home…
Thanks for sharing

I"m on board. Almost all of the research I’ve read says that masks are 70% for others in case you are asymptomatic and shedding virii; and 30% for coverage for yourself. Between that, social distancing, and hand washing, we can get a good handle on this.

I don’t like masks. I don’t like being told what to do. But for me, this is an example to embrace the humility of Christ and do what I can for others.

But there’s not enough data to justify moral outrage toward the non-compliant or accuse them of “stupidity.”
There is quite enough for me. Since this is a life issue, insufficient data gives a moral imperative to act safely. If one does not know if an action is safe or dangerous, it is reckless to engage in that activity. Insufficient data (which I do not agree with, btw) is still an argument for caution.

From the CDC
Everyone should wear a cloth face cover in public settings and when around people who don’t live in your household, especially when other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
  • Cloth face coverings should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

I do not care if people wear one or not. However, I do not think they should be in public without one, nor will I hesitate to call for enforcement for such people to be fined if they are be prideful mules about it, now that we have a major outbreak locally, they are legally required, and people are dying because of the carelessness of others.

FYI, we are about a month into an outbreak with a 10-14 day doubling (exponential increase) and only now has local officials mandated masks. There will be some who die. There will be others who lose their job, or pay, for a while. It is vital to re-open the country, and having safety protocols universal are vital to doing that safely.

I would like to know one reason that does not involve personal convenience why a Christian would refuse to wear a mask. Yes, I know if someone is posting here under 2 years old, or is on oxygen, or is unconscious, I get it.

Ours aren’t…my husband bought a box in US long ago to use for his handcraft .If you want, I can look for the brand, Peeps…We have been wearing these ones since March. No complaints really.
And then I have a thought but I don’t know if I’m saying nonsense: would hand washing yours once gently with some Softener help with yours or would that hinder their efficacy?

This risks trampling on concealed carry permits.

At present, it is a felony to wear a mask while concealed carrying.

There would have to be a serious rewrite of a number of gun rights laws to make it the law to do this.

If someone is carrying, they cannot legally wear a mask in most places.

Given the social unrest, I can readily see circumstances whereupon an individual may feel a risk to their life such that they need to carry. And if they are…

If someone is carrying, they cannot legally wear a mask in most places.
The only law I know of that might apply is the idea that one cannot carry a gun in a manner calculated to cause alarm. As wearing a mask is done for the opposite reason, that would not apply here.

So, has this really been an issue? Are people losing their licenses anywhere or is this another internet rumor? Checking with local authorities, there is no conflict between mask and CCL rights in Texas.

I have to say this is a good reason though, and one due thought, but only if it is factual.

You know, that article you linked to is from April 1st.
Are you just relying on one article from three months ago?

I do not know the laws for Texas, but in the state i live in, the question came up…the answer from the sheriff’s was that they would consider a medical mask an exception.

Which, of course, means that it is a technical violation. And if you run into legal trouble, whatever the sheriff said to the press won’t help.

I do not consider it worth risking my rights.

I am sure the sheriff means well, but the law is the law. Whatever he may say does not change it.

I will look around and see if this has been a real issue. I will report back if I find people arrested or having licenses suspended for this.

I have done quite a bit a searching and have not found where this is the law, at least yet. I am beginning to think it is an internet legend. Feel free to show me mistaken.

That’s exactly the claim that is in question. CIDRAP is challenging CDC recommendations. Stay home and physically distance yourself while out. But nobody is in any rational position to turn scientific ambiguity into moral dogma.

It appears that they’re standing by the uncertainty, and even Fauci himself admitted that

Again, if you want to do something that might work, I respect that. But there’s just not enough certainty to buttress the mask-shaming campaign.

That’s exactly the claim that is in question. CIDRAP is challenging CDC recommendations.
If they are, please show where, and if they are proven to be ineffective. As I said, lack of certainty still mandates prudence. From the CIDRAP website.

“While masks are almost certainly an effective public health measure for preventing and slowing the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the claims presented in this study are dangerously misleading and lack any basis in evidence,”
“It’s actually not helpful for scientists to hide behind a curtain of certainty. There is uncertainty about masks. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be wearing them,” Kriebel said. Instead of clamoring for scientific studies to back up mandates on mask use, Kriebel argues for more transparency in public health messaging.

“I would say, 'Mask use is our best judgment right now, and we will tell you if we get more evidence,” he said.
This is why I get frustrated with ignorance. Lack of scientific certainty is hardly an excuse to throw common sense out the window with what science we do have. We do not abandon what we know simply because we do not know everything. I get the impression that basic science and general scientific method is not being effectively taught in school.

Besides the saving of lives, I have the prosaic motive of fear for the economy and suffering to come from a major depression. We cannot afford to turtle up for a year. That is why we must take every step practical to making as much business as safe as possible, as soon as possible. The same goes for opening schools as we also need our educational system operational. If we ignore precautions, we will be shut up tight again, maybe for longer. Some of you will see your savings evaporate and your debt pile up.

In a sense, I will profit from such a situation being at a stable job and close to retirement. I do not wish to survive and thrive at the expense of my neighbors and friends.

I don’t think adults have any excuse for not being aware of these things, even if they weren’t taught in high school. Human behavior is frustrating sometimes. Consider a scenario where if you tell people “masks prevent spread” or “we think masks prevent spread”. That subtle difference likely means a much lower % of people wearing masks in the second phrase, just because you expressed uncertainty. So if you’re uncertain do you tell the truth, or do you speak with authority thus having better compliance and lower transmission rates? Again humans can be really dumb sometimes.
