June 27, 2008 at 10:00am, some babies were laid to rest.

The tiny casket seen near the bottom of the photo just ahead of the altar boys, contains the remains of 3 miscarried babies, and 7 aborted babies.

This took place at my parish - Assumption Grotto in Detroit. We hosted the Mass and Burial at our cemetery which was put on by Citizens for a Pro-Life Society (see links at my blogpost).

Bishop John M. Quinn was the celebrant for the Mass, in which roughly 600 assisted. It was followed by a graveside eulogy by Fr. Frank Pavone, who flew in for the burial.

If some of you post a response here, it will bump the post up periodically so that others may see it.

Moved from Apologetics because this is where it belongs.

This brought tears to my eyes. How beautiful that the Church would allow a funeral Mass for these poor children who were brutally murdered and also for the children who were miscarried. May the souls of these poor children rest in peace. :signofcross:

I appreciate that it was moved and was going to ask the moderators where to put it when a section on abortion & related did not jump out at me.

Thanks!

That pic of the casket is absolutely heartbreaking! So tiny…😦

I heard you on Teresa Tomeo’s show yesterday. Thanks for the pics and the link. God bless Monica Miller and her organization for what they do. It’s too bad none of the so-called secular media bothered to cover this last week. And it’s too bad the state an local agencies are too afraid to pursue the issue in the proper legal channels.

Diane:

I was looking at the other pictures on the site. I think that is the first time I have seen the lower altar being used there since the Bishop from one of the Caribbean Islands was visiting the Grotto.

I was going to go, but work is too hectic right now.

You are right that the Table Altar is rarely used, and when it is it is likely a visiting priest or bishop. In fact, I would surmise that this is one of several reasons why Fr. Perrone has not removed the that lower altar, in spite of many parishioners ask that it be removed. He doesn’t want to force visiting priests and bishops into using the high wall Altar. If he removes the low Altar, then it sort of forces them into celebrating ad orientem. If priests celebrate facing east, it shouldn’t be forced, even indirectly.

I don’t know how I sounded - all I know is I was sitting on hold waiting to talk to Teresa when I got all choked up listening to Mary Lockwood. I prayed she wouldn’t come to me just yet, but the next thing I knew she opened my line and I was having a hard time holding it together, still considering all that Mary had said.

If anyone wants to listen to that segment, you can still catch it at Ave Maria Radio in the archives. Not sure how long it will be there, but it is on this page for the 1st Hour of June 30th. You might also want to check the same page tomorrow for the first hour that ran today, July 1st. Teresa interviewed Bishop Quinn about celebrating Masses like these. It was his second and he talks about how it went for him the first time. It was a good interview.

Well, for both, go to this page and toggle it to June and July. Pic the dates I said (first hour for June 30th and July 1st).

Random question (I think)…

I understand the desire to give burial to aborted babies…is it Catholic tradition to give funeral rites to miscarried babies?

I believe that it is determined by the age at which the miscarried baby died.

Unfortunately, in this case, it was probably hard to tell. The babies were found in a dumpster in back of the slaughterhouse (i.e. abortion facility). Yes, that is what they think of infants, garbage.

It sounds like a good question for an apologist.

From my perspective, since we believe that a person is ensouled at conception itself, it would seem to me that if a mother captures a baby in miscarriage, regardless of stage, the baby could have a funeral. I have known women who did their best to baptize a miscarried baby.

Makes sense to me.

Although, I have to admit that the funeral mass and burial itself seemed appropriate and prayerful, I could probably have done without the trappings of a hearse, pallbearers, etc (then again, I don’t even want those things at my own funeral).

I am speechless. 😦

I am actually gob-smacked.

Aside from the important fact that they are human bodies, and should be given decent burials.

I always thought that “the products of abortion” were supposed to be cremated immediately? For public health.

This ain’t the first time for this butcher. He did the same thing at his Southfield genocide plant. That funeral was down at the Cathedral.

BTW: He was not even charged by the police for his crimes since the police did not find the evidence.

What amazes me is that no state or local agency will pursue this matter. Even if you ignore the babies in the dumpster thing, these people are dumping human medical waste in a dumpster in a neighborhood where people live. This is illegal as all heck, and if a hospital did that they’d be in huge trouble. But no one wants to even touch this for fear that the almighty so-called “women’s rights” would be affected.

I sent out emails to as many people as I could telling them about this.

bursts into tears that is so heartbreakingly sad…(I seriously am crying…wow)
