Mass closed during pandemic? What are you doing?

@Minks Your reply rang so true to me. My sister and I just spoke about the phrase “Little pitchers have big ears” and I am guilty as charged. I enjoyed listening in on adult conversation especially at the dinner table so I learned to take my time eating, to listen and be quite. Usually I was invisible to my adult family members absorbed in their own conversation until someone realized that I was still present and got excused from the table. That phrase usually accompanied my exit! As a side note, do you all require family members to excuse themselves from the table or is this considered archaic. Both of my adult children still stress this in their homes because that is the way they were raised. The youngest grandchildren ages 4&5 both want to bolt as soon as they finish eating. My adult children tell them to stay seated until everyone is done. Sorry, off topic but just curious.

@MarthaSo My Catholic school upbringing says yes this is true. That it is a requirement for priests to say mass daily. I feel that they do this joyfully not out of a sense of obligation but that is only my opinion.

Lol! We cousins would go upstairs and re-enact all the adult conversations, just chortling with laughter!

Unfortunately, no little ones. My nephew requires being excused of his 7-yr old daughter, but she doesn’t live with him, and they live in Birmingham; just see them once a year. My brother has four grandchildren in the Chicago area, but I’ve only seen two, and that was 12 years ago, at my dad’s funeral. Thankfully, my friends have established that pattern in their homes.

So glad that you’ve joined us here on CAF!

EWTN broadcasts Sunday Mass at 8AM and Noon.
We sat down in the LR, watched the 1100 (CDT) rebroadcast, did the responses, etc. It wasn’t the same as being in church ourselves, but it was a far sight better than nothing.

I listened to the Eucharistic celebration on my way to the parish for drive-through communion >_>. Then, I sat outside the church in my car and read the mass readings and prayed the psalms.

maybe true… might be a matter of bishop’s decision because ours told the priests in the diocese they need to celebrate Mass privately everyday.

What I was hoping for happened: most parishes around here are streaming! I really like the one’s in the small chapels with the camera close to the altar. It’s a blessing to see this.

I only know of one around here who’s done this but I didn’t see it.

Got an email last night from our pastor. Parking lot communion is not an option since there is no way to ensure safe distances between communicant and ministers.

Attending private masses and receiving Communion.

Confession was available, too. I availed myself of all three.

We have a zealous priest. I wish all the faithful had one to keep them strong.

No. Just one. It’s a bedroom we don’t use at all. I set up a library of Catholic study books, in Spanish and English since my wife is from Mexico. It is my refuge in this time. If you are asking about the other area, it used to be one of the closets. I set it up as a memorial for my wife’s parents who past away as a reminder for us to pray for them.

@MarthaSo Looked it up and Canon Law #904 states that daily celebration of the Mass is earnestly recommended but avoids requiring priests to say the Mass every day. There are several reasons mentioned why it is worded that way.

yes they are here. daily is pretty much just the priest. a few on Sunday’s have another person or two for music/readings.

All Masses and church buildings are closed in my local community until early April at the soonest.

I will confess: the first Sunday, I opted to “attend” a live stream of a Presbyterian church in my community. I’d been there before and knew the pastor would have a strong, encouraging message for troubling times. He did.

Yesterday, there was a live stream Mass from a Catholic Church I’d been to a few times in the city where I live.

As with my other activities, I’m trying to attend as many virtual events as I can in a live stream format. In particular, praying simultaneously with others, even if you cannot see them, feels very important right now.

If you can take a pause in your day, look into “attending” the Pope’s Urbi et Orbi stream on 03/27 (Friday): Pope announces extraordinary 'urbi et orbi' blessing March 27 | National Catholic Reporter

Parish closed and they don’t have any streaming services. I found out that our previous parish was live streaming Mass, so I replayed it back for the family last night. I’m still sticking to my daily prayer habits.

My Uncle used to say Mass every day, even if there was nobody else around.
