I’m fairly new to going to mass, I’ve just joined RCIA and I love, love, love it. I’ve been going to mass since the beginning of September every week and I’ve noticed the last couple of weeks the mass is missing parts.

After the priest greets us, there was no Penitential Act, Kyrie or Gloria. The collect was done and then it went to the readings, gospel and homily. There was no creed recited - Nicene or Apostle’s, went straight to the prayers of the faithful and then carried on from there as usual.

We just got a new associate pastor, this was his second week here. The October 4th mass was done by the head Pastor and it was missing these parts as well.

Is this normal or am I missing something?

Might want to bring your concerns to the RCIA Team and see what they think.

It was a weekday Mass. They omit the Penitential rite, the Gloria, and both creeds.

There should be a penitential act at every Mass unless there is a sprinkling rite. It can take one of three different forms: the Confiteor; the “Have mercy on us, Lord”; the troped invocations (“You were sent to heal the contrite of heart, Lord have mercy”). The first two forms should be followed by “Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy.”

The Gloria is usually omitted during weekday Mass, unless it is a solemnity or feast.

The Creed is usually omitted during weekday Mass, unless it is a solemnity. The Creed may also be omitted if there is a renewal of baptismal promises or a baptism takes place during the Mass.

Every Sunday is a solemnity.

But Rachel does not give when the Mass took place so we would need to know when it took place to determine if it was Solemnity (which is highly unlikely) a weekday mass, or a Sunday Mass

Sorry to confuse it folks 😃

They were both Sunday masses. Yesterday’s included a baptism and I’ve learned that some things are omitted when there are baptisms. The Sunday before just threw me off because I remember thinking it’s good the next bit of singing is long so all the late comers could be seated. And then no singing lol. Same with the creed - I was ready and had my book open and ready to recite as I’ve not got it memorized yet and…no creed. Lol. The one time I’m ready haha

I’ll try and pay more attention this week and see what all is going on. If still short I’ll ask my RCIA director.

Thanks for the help!
