1. A rough mental calculation shows that, in 12 pages of posts on “Catholic Answers Forums”, we have approximately 15-20% of posts praying for the victims, 2 (or around 1%) praying for the killer, and the remaining 84-89% arguing about gun control, politics, the tyranny of the government, Obama, etc. I’m not sure what this means, I’ll leave it to your interpretation.
2. Secondly, it may seem inappropriate to quote the Philosopher here, but there is truly nothing new under the sun. Young, mentally disturbed men going on killing sprees have been described for hundreds of years, and in different cultures. The following article might be of interest to the psychologically minded:

I believe in sensible gun control laws but neither side is touching this issue. It’s “policially incorrect” at the moment.

Clinton was the last President who did- and I applauded him for it but no federal politician is touching this.

1. Bad parenting. Letting school, media, and internet raise our kids. NOT properly socialized…
2. A culture of selfishness. If this guy cared about anything OTHER than himself, he would have thought about the THOUSANDS of lives changed by this. ALL of the victims, and ALL of their families, and ALL of their friends, and ALL of their co-workers. That’s a lot of people.
3. A culture that teaches and encourages us to make a spalsh, be seen, get on TV, and make a huge statement no matter what the message is, or what the consequences are.

Sometimes it does help to consider the big picture and take a historical perspective. Unfortunately, at times like these it’s far more common for people to trot out their pet theories: violent entertainment, broken homes, personal characteristics of the victim such as religion (or the lack thereof) or ideology etc.

What I’m sensing in this thread is that many are failing to fit their dearly held social theories to what we know about the victim thus far. But that doesn’t mean we’re gonna stop trying. The fact is that some things in life need to be simply placed at the feet of the Cross because they will NEVER make sense to the human mind.

May the love of God succor all those hurt, physically or mentally by this tragedy.

Or none of the above. In most cases a senseless tragedy is just that-a senseless tragedy.

May the Angels greet the victims as they enter paradise. May the Lord lay his healing hand on those injured, guide those who treat them and provide comfort for those who love them.

Absolutely. When the Bible speaks of “the mystery of iniquity”, I believe we have to take these words for what they say: evil is a great mystery, and there are many things about it that we cannot explain. We can try to understand, but at the end of the day, a full understanding is beyond our finite minds. And while righteous indignation often stems from worthy motives, there is no simple answer to a tragedy of this sort.

It was for context- CO Spring isn’t the biggest town in the world. Everyone’s heard of the guy. He claims he isn’t gay though so I guess everything is back to normal with him.

Why post things you are not sure of? My tween was just this morning satirizing the grown-ups who read all kinds of meaning into the movie. His words? “Come on people, these characters and plot have been around since the 1950’s!” It’s The Lorax all over again; injecting political ideology into stories that pre-existed the current political -] madness/-] - I mean, climate.

Most likely the shooter was just a psycho. I am sure the truth will come out eventually. However, with the media like ABC News jumping the gun and making the assumption that he was a tea party member,I won’t believe ANYTHING in the media OR the internet.

I still don’t understand how the guy managed to walk in with all that gear UNNOTICED!

Prayers should be offered for the victime, especially for the family of the little girl who was killed.
