Not sure if it counts but originally you could only go to confession once in a lifetime. I think it was Irish monks who introduced the idea of confessing as often as needed. Is that a clarification or a reversal?The permissibility of slavery.
The permissibility of charging interest.
The possibility of salvation for non-Catholic Christians.
The possibility of salvation for non-Christians.
The Church now explains each of these changes as a clarification, extension or development of past doctrine. But viewed from the pre-change perspective, each appears to be a clear reversal of doctrine. The same thing is happening with this teaching.
